From horror thrillers like Revelations to romances like Lost in Starlight, the slew of new Korean movies in 2025 will keep you glued to your screens.
Leading the list is Dark Nuns, the spin-off of Jang Jae-hyun’s The Priests, which was his highest-grossing Korean movie in 2015. Starring Song Hye-kyo and Jeon Yeo-been, Dark Nuns is a story of two nuns and their unbreakable resolve to save a young boy possessed by an evil spirit.
Meanwhile, Train to Busan fame director Yeon Sang-ho’s Revelations will explore the complex intersections of religion, faith and morality. Penned by writer Choi Gyu-seok, also known for the Netflix hit Hellbound, Revelations revolves around a pastor trying to put his son’s murderer behind bars.
Interestingly, Mexican director Alfonso Cuarón, who swept the 91st Academy Awards for Best Director and Best Foreign Language Film for the Netflix movie Roma, will participate as an executive producer of Revelations.
Another gem that makes it to our list of exciting Korean movies releasing in 2025 is legendary Park Chan-wook’s No Other Choice. The thriller marks the on-screen reunion between Park and actor Lee Byung-hun, who previously collaborated on the films Joint Security Area (2000) and Three… Extremes (2004).
According to Soompi, director Park started writing the script for No Other Choice 17 years ago. Sharing the excitement of finally completing the project, Park said in an interview with K-media outlet news1korea, “I think it’s been about 17 years since I started writing the script for this film. I am truly moved by finally completing filming for a project that I’ve wanted to make for so long.”
Not to forget Netflix’s very first Korean animated movie Lost in Starlight, which focuses on the love story of an astronaut-musician couple. Starring the voices of K-drama stars Kim Tae-ri and Hong Kyung, the movie is helmed by Han Ji-won, who also co-wrote the script with writer Kang Hyun-joo.
