Fans of The Bear, prepare for another acclaimed culinary drama experience with an incredible cast as the Emmy-winning show has been renewed for season 4. The news comes just months after it was confirmed that The Bear season 3 is in the works.
The FX-Hulu comedy stars Jeremy Allen White and Ayo Edebiri in the lead roles of fine-dining chef Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto and sous chef Sydney Adamu, respectively.
It begins with Carmy trying to save his family’s failing Chicago sandwich shop named The Original Beef after the suicide of his brother Michael, played by Jon Bernthal. There he teams up with Sydney and they build a new restaurant, The Bear, from scratch.
Deadline and other media outlets reported on 14 March 2024 that the critically acclaimed show has been secretly given the green light to work on season 4 while they film season 3.
Therefore, there is no official announcement yet. ET reported that FX had not responded to the publication’s query on the talked-about season 4.
Official announcement or not, everyone is now eager to know about The Bear season 4.
All about The Bear season 4
How did word about The Bear season 4 spread?
Reports suggest that the news of The Bear getting a season 4 started when local outlets in Illinois reported about filming of extra episodes for the show.
According to ET, an outlet named Reel Chicago revealed that some members of the production team said that the extra episodes are for season 4.
Thus, The Bear season 3 and season 4 episodes are reportedly filmed back-to-back.
Will The Bear season 4 be the final season?
There is no clarity on whether The Bear season 4 will be the show’s last.
Deadline reported that the decision to film both seasons 3 and 4 back-to-back has given rise to speculation that the show could be nearing its end, especially since the acclaimed FX comedy series, Atlanta, ended after back-to-back shooting of seasons 3 and 4.
But citing sources, the report also said that something like that hasn’t been confirmed and, therefore, a The Bear season 5 could happen.
What to expect from The Bear season 4?
The Bear season 2 was about the preparation and eventual opening of the eponymous restaurant. Things do not go as planned for Carmy, who gets trapped inside the walk-in refrigerator which triggers his pent up frustration and leaves his girlfriend Claire heartbroken.
Meanwhile, Sydney achieves a sense of confidence by making the opening night a success despite Carmy failing to contribute at the last moment due to the refrigerator incident.
It is expected that The Bear season 3 will reveal more about the personal trajectories of the two main characters as they try to come to terms with the new developments in their lives. Whether Carmy is able to fight his inner demons and win back the love of Claire will be known in the upcoming seasons. On the other hand, the talented Sydney has shown remarkable growth as a chef and could be seen as someone taking a deeper role in the restaurant business.
When will The Bear season 3 release?
The Bear season 3 is expected to premiere in June 2024. According to Variety, FX chairman John Landgraf made the announcement during the network’s presentation at the Television Critics Association’s winter 2024 press tour in February.
He confirmed that all episodes will be released at the same time instead of the week-to-week system.
“It wasn’t lost on me or anyone who worked on the show that it was anxiety-inducing,” he said. “So we made a decision to drop the whole thing because it has a beautiful, uplifting ending.”
Cast of The Bear season 4
Apart from Jeremy Allen White and Ayo Edebiri, The Bear season 3 will also have a returning cast comprising Lionel Boyce as Marcus Brooks, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Richard “Richie” Jerimovich, Molly Gordon as Claire and Jamie Lee Curtis as Donna Berzatto among others.
Since the main cast members would likely remain unchanged, it is, therefore, anyone’s bet that season 4 of The Bear will also have White, Edebiri and most of the rest.
Guest stars were a highlight of The Bear season 2. Bob Odenkirk, Sarah Paulson, John Mulaney and Gillian Jacobs appeared in a flashback Christmas episode of the season titled “Fishes.”
Commenting on a question on whether the upcoming seasons would feature as many high-profile guest stars as they did in season 2, Landgraf reportedly said, “Unfortunately, I can’t. I was surprised as you were when the Christmas episode came through the door.”
Expectations are thus high that some of them or equally prominent new names could be returning as guest stars in seasons 3 or 4.
