2025 is shaping up to be a great year for geeks and nerds, and we’re just talking about in terms of movies. Not only is Marvel back to multiple releases (fingers crossed they’re out of their slump now) but we’re also going to witness the DCU’s first film with none other than Superman. It’s also the year of a new Jurassic World movie and a brand new Boon Joon-ho film with Robert Pattinson. Mark your calendars and save up your cash. From Star Trek and MCU movies to Superman and Minecraft, these are the geekiest films releasing in 2025 you definitely need to go to theatres for

Star Trek: Section 31

Michelle Yeoh returns as Philippa Georgiou in the very first Star Trek television film. The movie follows Georgiou as she joins Sector 31, a division of Starfleet dedicated to protecting the United Federation of Planets. The movie premieres on Paramount+ in the US. No word yet on which streaming service it will be released on internationally.

Captain America: Brave New World

Anthony Mackie is finally getting his first movie as Cap. Alongside Harrison Ford’s Thaddeus Ross/Red Hulk, Cap finds himself in the middle of yet another international crisis that will pit him against the powers that be.

Mickey 17

March 7

Boong Joon-ho’s upcoming film is a sci-fi black comedy starring Robert Pattinson as Mickey Barnes, a man who’s signed up for a program where he regenerates after dying. One of his multiples, Mickey 17, unintentionally survives, which then pits that multiple against his newest one, Mickey 18.

The Electric State

March 14

The Russo Brothers’ Netflix sci-film is based on the comic of the same name. Set in an alternate 1994, the film follows Michelle, played by Millie Bobby Brown, who goes on a journey with a robot companion to find her long-lost brother.

A Minecraft Movie

April 4

Four normal people just getting on with their lives find themselves suddenly and mysteriously transported to the Overworld, a blocky animated world filled with pigs, zombies, and creepers. To get back home, they’ll need to team up with a master crafter named Steve, played by Jack Black.

Jurassic World: Rebirth

July 2

A new Jurassic movie in 2025? Yes, please. This brand-new film stars Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, and Mahershala Ali. Set five years after Dominion, the current state of the Earth has proven to be inhospitable for the dinosaurs who now live in equatorial regions. Johansson plays a covert operation expert sent to gather biological material from dinosaurs that will help in developing a life-saving drug.

Superman

July 11

The DCU’s very first movie is flying into theatres this year. David Corenswet dons the cape as the Man of Steel in this James Gunn-directed film which follows Superman dealing with apocalyptic aliens and CEOs while also reconciling his Smallville and Kryptonian roots.

While the DCU celebrates its first movie, Marvel welcomes back its First Family. The movie is set in a retro-futuristic alternate reality of 1960s, hinting that it’s also set in another universe, and follows the titular team as they go up against the world-devouring entity known as Galactus and its herald, the Silver Surfer.

Not a lot has been revealed about the sequel to the 2021 film. Karl Urban joined the cast as Johnny Cage and Australian actress Jessica McNamee was cast as Sonya Blade. We’re keeping our eyes peeled for any details on the story, and hopefully a trailer drops soon.
