From muay thai training to rock climbing, these are some of our favourite moments from Conan O’Brien Must Go in Thailand.
Conan O’Brien’s new travel show Conan O’Brien Must Go has finally premiered on HBO GO here in Thailand. No disrespect to the other countries the show features, but since one of the four episodes was shot here in Bangkok, we immediately watched that episode. Those who have watched Conan’s specials shot in other countries know that it’s a chaotic fun time, and thankfully, the Thailand episode was no different. Here are some of our favourite moments from the Conan O’Brien Must Go episode shot in Thailand.

“Why did I come to Bangkok?”: Eight moments from Conan O’Brien Must Go in Thailand that we love
Anna’s mum smacking the living daylights out of Conan
Like a typical Thai auntie who speaks little English and is clueless as to who the tall red-headed menace is in her living room, Anna’s mum proceeds to welcome Conan to the Land of Smiles by giving forced laughs and slapping Conan in the face. While Conan is off doing his shenanigans and lifting weights, Anna’s mum sees it as a perfect opportunity to smack his face, which she says is also exercise. Sure, why not?
Conan’s attempt at a stalkery Thai song and the awkwardness that ensues
True to Conan fashion, the late night vet took to a Thai TV show just hours after landing to sing a Thai song. He does a pretty good job… sort of. At least the crew who were watching seemed to enjoy it… kinda.
The girl with the finger stick pointing at the words on the prompter
When Conan finally took the stage to actually perform, it was safe to assume that he was reading the “karaoke” lyrics off a board or prompter. What we weren’t expecting was that there was someone there with a finger stick pointing at which words he should sing. Good thing Conan’s iconic assistant, Sona, wasn’t there or else she would have probably had to do that for him.
Conan brandishing an “ornament” while floating down Don Mueang river
While on the Floating Market, it was unsurprising that one of Conan’s first purchases was a phallic ornament, one that we commonly see in tourist traps around the city. Of course, he wouldn’t be Conan if he didn’t go around showing the thing off and even trying to get one of the vendors to uh, kiss it. To be fair, the vendor was also pushing Conan to kiss his snake. It’s ana actual snake though, we swear.
The tourist guide inadvertently suggesting something to Conan
In an exchange with the local tourist guide before going around some of Bangkok’s famous temples, Conan says that this life was already too much and doesn’t wish to be reincarnated. The tourist guide, ever so helpful, suggests something to the comedian that’s both shocking and hilarious that we had to pause, laugh for a good few minutes, and regain our composure.
The chaotic result of Conan eating spicy street food
We already know what Conan is like with spicy food thanks to his Hot Ones episode, but it’s quite possible his trip here prepared him for it. It was still as manic and chaotic as expected though, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
Whitney, the “Don Rickles of Bangkok”
The breakout star of the episode is a fan of Conan’s here in Thailand named Whitney, a rock climbing enthusiast who challenges the comedian to a climb. But really, comedy should also be one of her hobbies. At one point, she tells Conan he doesn’t have to worry about the harness damaging his, uh, lower area because he’s already had kids.
“Just ‘cause I have children already, I don’t need a penis?” Conan shoots back. “Yes,” she replies bluntly. She puts Jeff Ross to shame.
The Muay Thai action sequence
We’ve already seen the promo shots of Conan in the ring but the actual sequence is so much more chaotic. He doesn’t just train but he also goes up against a bunch of fighters and dispatches them in hilarious Conan fashion. It reminded us of Conan’s old skits back in his late night shows and we’re just glad to see his shenanigans on our screen once again.
