Sarnies & Friends

If your usual Sarnies isn’t enough, they’ve brought their friends along for the ride this time. Located in Charoen Krung’s landmark The Corner House, Sarnies & Friends is named after the collaborative efforts they’re engaging with. Aside from the usual food and beverages, you’ll find merch, souvenirs, and more, from the friends they joined hands with. The beautiful, roomy space makes for the perfect venue for before-work coffee runs, work meetings, escape-from-work brunches, and collaborative gatherings with friends.

What we’re ordering: Sarnies’ menu changes according to where they’re located. Here, you’ll find Thai-Chinese twists in addition to their repertoire of savoury favourites. Highlights include the mala egg benedict with XO chili jam and salted cod, Peking duck toastie with their homemade hoisin sauce, as well as the carbonara with gun chiang and smoked bacon. If you’re in need of a pick-me-up, the egg custard coffee — Americano topped with spiced egg yolk cream — will have your day sorted.

Terroir.BKK Songwat

Not to be confused with the fine dining restaurant in Ekkamai with the same name, Terroir is the newest kid on the block on Songwat road. “Terroir” is a French term that refers to the land; more specifically, the environment contexts and farming practices unique to each piece of land that affect the taste and texture of a crop. As such, this new spot really emphasises the coffee — the terroir that shapes the aroma and taste of each bean, roasted in their laboratory.

What we’re ordering: You’ll find a whole line up of different coffee beans they have on offer. Some are more fit to be drunk black, some great with milk, and the rest are built to be slow-dripped. We recommend thinking of how you normally have your coffee, and discover new bean selections recommended by a knowledgeable team of staff.

Opening times: Open daily, 10am-5pm
Location: 1218 Song Wat Rd, Chakkrawat, Samphanthawong, Bangkok

Homeland Sukhumvit 39

Thonglor hangout spot HOMELAND Café & Grocer has welcomed guests to their second location in Sukhumvit 39. They cited a new, bigger venue would give them a chance to work more with local suppliers and better incorporate their products into the menu. A lot of space, yet with the same homey feeling — they envision the space to hold more events, workshops, and the like, complete with a corner containing produce and homemade goods for guests to browse and buy.

What we’re ordering: Be sure to get your hands on their very refreshing ‘Sea Salt Limenade’ featuring lime, sea salt, and coconut syrup made from fresh coconuts. For food, the Miso Banana Bread features in-season bananas, the Thai Croque Madame has shokupan brioche topped generously with housemade northern Thai sausages, Bechamel miso sauce, and a sunny side up, and their Morning Platter features organic eggs, scrambled, salad made from in-season veggies, and a choice between sourdough and rice topped with furikake rice seasoning.

Opening times: Thu-Tue, 8am-5pm
Location: Citi Resort, 99/9 Room S101, 1st floor, Soi Sukhumvit 39, Khlong Tan Nuea, Watthana, Bangkok

TAY Songwat

In Thai, “tay naam tay taa” means to sell like hotcakes, with the literal meaning being a product is being sold so well it’s like we’re dumping it into the river. Manifesting so, TAY opened up in Songwat, featuring a very homey atmosphere with contrasting wooden, earth tones with concrete walls, along with sumptuous desserts and coffee in handcrafted clay mugs. Both are, of course, selling like hotcakes at the moment.

What we’re ordering: There’s something for everyone. They import tea leaves from Chiang Rai, available in all forms teas are served. Their coffee bean selection is both local and international. Homemade breads are made using natural yeast and pair well with any coffee. The ice cream utilises salt from Nan province, and coconut sugar from Amphawa. Ume cranberry bread and blueberry yoghurt ice cream pair up so well it will make you think about it at home later.

Opening times: Open daily, 10am-5pm
Location: 791 Song Wat Rd, Khwaeng Chakkrawat, Khet Samphanthawong, Bangkok

Egg Day

The Siam area gets another casual spot for the cravings you never knew you had. Located in Centre Point, Egg Day features Korean-style egg sandwiches, crafted by a native Korean chef, and adjusted with care for the Thai palette. We all have those moments where we’re hungry enough to eat, but too full to eat anything too filling. This all-day treat hits the spot, and the sheer amount of choice will have you feeling spoiled just looking at the menu.

What we’re having: The classic egg sandwich and the Ham & Cheese are two choices that can never go wrong. If you’re looking to get out of your comfort zone, the Tom Yum Shrimp and the Avocado & Egg are great picks. They also offer grilled sourdough sandwiches, with fun fillings from chicken avocado pesto to kimchi pork.
