According to the American Gem Society, the name topaz derives from ‘Topazios’ from the ancient Greek name for St.John’s Island in the Red Sea. It is associated with preventing magic spells and dispelling anger. Whilst topaz is always thought to be yellow given its history, it comes with many more desirable colourful tones you can imagine. This fiery and brilliant gemstone is available in hues from brownish orange to an exclusive yellow, with blue being the most abundant one in the market.
