As lab-grown diamonds are on the rise in the jewellery scene, we catch up with Slin Vechmamontien, GIA expert and owner of Social Diamond, to learn more about this growing market.

Lab-grown diamonds have gained popularity in recent years, as many consumers are showing interest in this cultivated stone, particularly in regards to its more eco-friendly and ethical approach. However, there has also been a lot of controversy surrounding its authenticity and value, as people question whether lab-grown diamonds are “real or fake.”

Despite differing opinions, there is no denying that lab-grown diamonds have several attractive qualities, including affordability, design versatility, sustainability, and functionality. As we celebrate Women’s History Month, and approach International Women’s Day on 8 March, we sit down with an inspiring woman and business owner, who recognises many of these challenges, and has found ways to overcome them.

Q&A: Slin Vechmamontien, owner of Social Diamond, on lab-grown diamonds and the sparkling future of jewellery

Slin Vechmamontien is a remarkable entrepreneur who has encountered numerous difficulties on her journey to success. After being sent to Singapore for her schooling, Slin returned to Thailand and opened her own restaurant at the tender age of 19. “I managed 40 to 50 staff, washed dishes, handled finances, and so on. After a while, the restaurant didn’t work out. I realised I was too young.”

Slin later joined her husband’s jewellery family business, as they had been in the industry for more than 40 years. Alongside this, she also founded a bathing suit company, spf.co, which has become a great success. Currently, Slin has a new venture, Social Diamond, which specialises in lab-grown diamonds.

8 March is International Women’s Day, and as a woman who has achieved so much, we’re curious what your proudest achievement is.

My team. I am very particular about whom I choose to work with. What I’m proud of is that I see a team of all women, and they are able to learn, grow, and develop as I develop the brand. Some of them are actually leaders of their own families. I’m very proud that I have such an amazing team where they help me, and I help them. Making something successful is more than a one-person job. It’s a team effort. So, with my previous businesses and Social Diamond, my team is very important to me. I wouldn’t be here today without them.

Which women inspire you the most?

I admire Selena Gomez as a celebrity due to her great personality. It’s hard to talk about mental health when you are at that level of success, and it’s courageous of her to be open about her struggles. Our society admires people who are strong and successful, but for someone like her to have so much and still be open about her hardships is really inspiring.

My mother is also a great source of strength for me. She has endured many hardships, but I’ve never seen her back down. Whenever I’m not okay, I call my mum, and she always makes me feel better.

Finally, my best friend Nicha is very confident. She believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself, and that’s very important to have that kind of support from a woman so close to you. Her confidence is infectious, and she inspires me to believe in myself even when I don’t know what I’m doing half the time.

As a woman, what barriers have you faced throughout your career? How did you overcome them?

There were times when I met with suppliers, and once, during an investment meeting, I experienced discrimination because of my gender. The men in the meeting didn’t address me because I am a woman. My boss, a man, was running late, so they simply ignored me. However, I am grateful that my colleagues have always treated me respectfully and never made me feel inferior.

In my opinion, women are not inferior to men. We possess more emotional intelligence and empathy, which makes us better leaders. Being a woman has given me more opportunities for career advancement. I have learned how to lead as a team player and leader, which has boosted my confidence. When you are confident, you can push through any obstacle and achieve your goals.

Tell us about Social Diamond.

I’ve worked on Social Diamond since October 2023. Last year, I visited Singapore and was inspired by their growing interest in lab-grown diamonds. I wanted to bring that same enthusiasm back to Thailand and make it more accessible to everyone.

The natural diamond industry is very exclusive and can be quite arrogant. People often judge others based on the size of their diamonds, and a one-carat ring can already costs 250,000 Baht! I believe that everyone should be able to enjoy the beauty of diamonds without discrimination. That’s why I created a more affordable, sociable, fun, jewellery brand specialising in lab-grown diamonds.

There was some hesitation, as some consider them “fake” and iffy to wear. However, I believe that by educating people about lab-grown diamonds, we can change that perception and make them more widely accepted. Not to mention, the younger generation is more logical. They don’t want to spend a lot of money on jewellery, and we don’t necessarily see it as an investment. It’s something meant to be worn. For example, just one-carat earrings can cost up to 600,000 Baht. With lab-grown diamonds, you can get the same beautiful look at a more affordable price.

When did you notice the spike in demand for lab-grown diamonds?

I went to Singapore and shared with my family that lab-grown diamonds have gained a significant market share in the US. My husband’s family also works in the diamond business, so I said we either use our expertise to open this market or someone else will do it.

As I said previously, the younger generation doesn’t care about a diamond’s origin, as long as they sparkle. Since launching, I’ve noticed more people are interested in lab-grown diamonds and know much about them, like their certificates and strength.

Lab diamonds are more logical. For example, if a couple has a budget of 2 million Baht, spending 100,000 Baht on a two-carat lab diamond can save 1.9 million Baht. With that money, you could invest in something with a higher return on investment, like a house or condo. The newer generation looks at facts rather than sentimentality when making purchasing decisions. Spending two million dollars on natural diamonds means losing 20-30% of their value, whereas that money could buy three lab-grown rings.

In your view, what are the benefits of lab diamonds?

The price, of course. However, the aspect of travel and accessorising with jewellery is important. Jewellery is meant to be worn and not be locked away in a safe. When you have a 3-carat natural diamond ring on your finger, it’s like a walking condo on your hand. Lab-grown diamonds are a better option to accessorise yourself with while travelling. Of course, you may still worry about losing them, but it’s not like losing a 600,000 Baht diamond earring. The feeling is different, and although there is still damage, it’s not as critical.

I also notice many people wear duplicate wedding rings in lab-grown diamonds to feel more secure. Moreover, lab-grown diamonds offer more design options, like creating a Mickey Mouse shape. We can play more with shapes and sizes instead of focusing on the total budget.

What do you say to those who claim “lab diamonds are not real diamonds” since they’re not naturally cultivated. How do you feel about this statement?

According to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the word “natural” has been removed from the definition of diamonds. This is because they have realised that lab-made and natural diamonds are essentially the same, with the only difference being in how they are made. This is similar to farmed and natural pearls. “Cultivated gemstone” is now used instead of “lab diamonds.” While the facts say it is a real diamond, ultimately, it depends on one’s mindset and beliefs.

Lastly, what message do you want to send to young women thinking about their career, especially those who desire to start their own business like yourself?

Just do it. Even if you don’t have the funds, work for it. Everything I did was self-funded, so instead of giving up, you have to keep searching. Everyone’s situation is different, but what’s important is to start somewhere. Sell whatever you can or work as much as possible to save up for your dream business. I understand some may get paralysed by this and worry if it will work out or the company will succeed. I feel the same way, too. But remember, everything you do is a learning experience, even if you fail.

Nothing is perfect, so whatever happens, embrace it and learn from it.

The history of the cult classic Cartier Trinity collection https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/digital-cover/history-cartier-trinity-collection/ Mon, 13 Nov 2023 02:20:57 +0000 https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/?p=1900280

We all know Cartier’s ‘modern handcuff,’ the Love Bracelet, but did you know that the brand’s true cult classic is its Trinity collection?

Cartier has been producing some of the world’s most finest jewellery since the late 19th century. The Tutti Frutti, Love, Juste un Clou, and Panthère collections are just a few examples of this Parisian brand’s groundbreaking designs, remarkable gems, and exquisite craftsmanship. However, one line that cannot go unnoticed is the Cartier Trinity collection, which interestingly originated from a request by the renowned French artist Jean Cocteau.
[All images courtesy of Cartier]

Cartier Trinity Ring

The history of the cult classic Cartier Trinity collection

Louis Cartier, the founder’s grandson and the creative force behind the brand, designed the Trinity ring for Cocteau in 1924. The ring consists of three intertwined bands: yellow gold, representing fidelity; platinum, representing enduring friendship; and rose gold, representing true love. It became an instant success. However, this creation was a daring innovation for its time.

The 1920s were known for the roaring Art Deco style, and Cartier was famous for its colourful and exotic creations. But the Trinity ring was a stark contrast to this trend. Louis creating something so simple and embellished-free took great courage, yet that fearlessness was his success. He created a piece so unique and alluring with magnetic beauty it became a cult classic. And despite being almost a century old, the Trinity ring still remains as one of Cartier’s most iconic designs.

The French jewellery and watchmaking Maison didn’t just stop there. With time, the Trinity ring evolved with various models. These models include rings with words engraved, bigger bands, diamond-embellished Trinity rings, and even rings made by blending ceramic with yellow and white gold. In addition to the Trinity collection, Cartier also created a wedding edition called the Trinity Ruban Solitaire. There’s even earrings, necklaces, and bracelets versions that feature the Trinity design.

The collection has been adorned by iconic figures such as Princess Diana, Grace Kelly, and Gary Cooper. However, Trinity continues to be popular among today’s celebrities, including Kate Middleton, Kylie Jenner, and many others. The immense success of this collection isn’t just due to its impeccable design. It’s also the powerful symbolism and endless interpretations embodied in this forever-embedded ring. Whether it’s a token of affection, friendship, or passed down as a family heirloom, Trinity is vintage, modern and quintessential Cartier piece.

Hoop earrings

Big or small, hoop earrings are timeless and classic. Although they make a statement, they can be subtle, and that’s what we all need sometimes— to not be over the top. Plus, they’re incredibly versatile. Whether casual or formal, any look can be elevated with a good pair of hoops. For women, to upgrade a basic fit or if you’re showing off your neckline, try a chunky hoop. Whereas for men, opt for a tiny hoop earring to look more chic.

Pearl strand necklaces

Like hoop earrings, pearls will never go out of fashion. One genderless jewellery staple that everyone should have is that iconic pearl necklace. Trust us. It’ll change your entire look and aesthetic. They exude timeless elegance.

Bangle bracelets

Bangles are a great starter bracelet because they’re not too dainty and can make a statement on its own. It is subtle yet still has that pizzazz to enhance any look without additional jewellery. Bangles are also perfect for layering and stacking, as seen with the Cartier Love bracelets below.

Plain, gemstone, or diamond stud earrings

Studs are a popular choice for earrings, especially if they’re your first earrings, and for good reason. Whether it’s a diamond stud, gemstone, or plain, this accessory is a must-have. They are perfect for daily wear, even while exercising or swimming, making any outfit look clean and polished. Although plain studs are an excellent choice, larger diamond or gem studs are the way to go if you want to add that sparkly sparkle when the sunshine hits.

The dome ring

Jazz up your look with a bold statement ring, specifically the dome ring. They’re the perfect accessory. Just wear one on your finger, and it’s already giving, just like the bangle. Shiny, bare, or embellished with a precious gem, this one item will polish off the entire look. More are always welcome if you want to enhance your look.

A watch

Our last essential is a watch. Timepieces have become a staple for many as watch culture becomes less exclusive and more expansive. And yes, although smartphones can also tell time, watches serve a greater purpose beyond that. They are stylish accessories that can enhance one’s fashion, complementing the outfit. Whether you prefer a classic, modern, luxurious, or a simple dress watch, it will always add a touch of sophistication to any occasion.

Van Cleef & Arpels introduces new timepieces to its Perlée collection https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/style/jewellery/van-cleef-arpels-new-timepieces-perlee-collection/ Thu, 24 Aug 2023 03:00:06 +0000 https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/?p=1889732

In 2008, Van Cleef & Arpels launched its Perlée collection, which has become part of their identity. However, the Perlée motif has been the brand’s signature since the 1920s and remains iconic to this day. Literally translating to ‘beaded’ in English, the design consists of numerous golden spherical beads. This design technique is seen in countless of their creations, including their newest additions to the Perlée collection.

With Van Cleef & Arpels’ recent additions to its Perlée collection, the latest items showcase the company’s jewellery and watchmaking savoir-faire. Not only are these watches stunning, but these new variations offer a contemporary take on jewellery that tells time.

[All Images Courtesy of Van Cleef & Arpels]

The newest additions to Van Cleef & Arpels’ Perlée collection

VCA’s new creations come in five timeless models— four with 23mm diameter cases, while the fifth comes with a 30mm case. Each watch highlights the Maison’s Perlée aesthetic with a double row of golden spheres displaying their side in mirror-polished rose gold or diamond-paved white gold.

The dials are adorned with a décor of pavé-set diamonds, guilloché rose gold or mother-of-pearl, each capturing the light for an intense sparkle. As Van Cleef believes in using only stones that are meet the highest quality criteria, the diamonds utilised are at D to F for colour and IF to VVS for clarity. Expert gemologists also undergo a strict selection for the mother-of-pearl.

Each watch comes with an interchangeable alligator strap, and a second strap from the collection can be chosen. However, customers can also opt for a jewellery bracelet instead. Composed of articulated golden beads, this bracelet will, without a doubt, make heads turn. It is also comfortable to wear, since it follows the wrist’s movement, in true attention to detail.

Besides these five timepieces, VCA also released six ‘jewellery secret’ watches. These creations gained inspiration from the 17th-century pocket watches by using curved and colourful pendants. Worn as a necklace, one can simply check the time by rotating the bejewelled motif.

Three of these ‘jewellery secret’ watches are lined with signature beads that complement the intense shades of each gemstone. For instance, the rubies are complemented with rose gold, whereas the other models with sapphires and emeralds are paired with yellow gold.

For the last three pieces, three rare materials appear in the Perlée collection, taking the form of cabochons. Here the blue-grey to light-blue shades are chalcedony. The precious gem is paired with white gold to enhance its raw, beautiful blue colour. There’s also the first-ever use of pastel rose quartz in this collection, accented with rose gold. The last timepiece showcases a gorgeous dark violet-tinged blue sodalite set in yellow gold. As mentioned, each stone utilised for Van Cleef & Arpels products is chosen for its quality and iridescence, thereby undergoing a strict selection process.

Where to find the most gorgeous Thai fine jewellery in Bangkok https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/style/jewellery/gorgeous-thai-fine-jewellery-bangkok/ Tue, 08 Aug 2023 02:00:51 +0000 http://www.lifestyleasia.com/?post_type=listicle&p=557433 Artinian Thai fine jewellery bangle

Whilst Thailand is most commonly known for its culinary treats and crystal clear ocean waters, few people know that a sparkling heart beats in its capital, with a vast array of exclusive Thai fine jewellery shops, selling locally-sourced gemstones, showcasing Thai-inspired designs and fine Southeast Asian craftsmanship. In fact, some even go so far as to say that the jewellers from the Old Siam region are amongst the best in Thailand, noted for their fine detailed and innovative designs.

Yet where gold and silver shops are many and plenty scattered around buzzing China Town and beyond, Thai gemstone and jewellery houses have long been cropping up all over the city. Catering to Thai and international clientele, they focus on Thai-borne jewellery and design, paying great attention to top quality stones and age-old artistry. From folklore-inspired Thai ruby bracelets to delicate diamond floral earrings, have a look at our favourite local jewellery houses below — you’ll want to add these Thai treasures to your collection of sparkles.

Despite many diamond jewellery shops in Bangkok, one with lots of soul, depth, and story is Above Diamond. Established in 1959, dating back to the early days of the Thai diamond trade, Above Diamond was the first to pioneer a diamond shop in the Old Siam area. And that’s what makes them so extraordinary when creating Thai fine jewellery. Their legacy, history, and knowledge heirloom in this field makes them a trustworthy jeweller.

Moreover, what truly sets Above Diamond apart is the ability for customer engagement. With focused passion on handcrafting custom diamond engagement rings and wedding rings, every client can create their own one-of-a-kind piece for their most important moment. They even have a professional Design Consultant so customers can have an exceptional experience. Another aspect we love is their ethical sourcing, as their GIA-certified 100% natural diamonds are mined with the Kimberly Process. Rest assured that the unrivalled beauty of each exquisite treasured piece is conflict-free, socially, environmentally, and ecologically. How wonderful.

His latest ‘Rattanakosin Shadow’ collection was inspired by the Thai women of the past, and how they used flowers as accessories and fragrant perfume. And indeed, upon first glance, Sarran’s pieces are quite literally gold and pearl adorned petals of beauty.

The second-generation jewellers are known for their philosophy of luxury, executed in impeccable style, and spotted on many red carpets. Tiffany & Co. has a sense of style that extends far beyond jewellery. Here are some of the most remarkable collaborations we have loved in the past years.

With nearly 200 years of glorious history, American brand Tiffany & Co. is rightly considered the quintessential jewellery house in the world — one that represents class and creative excellence in the most unique and stylish ways. Often making headlines for its popular collaborations, the brand owes its joint venture successes to the luxury conglomerate, LVMH (Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton), which acquired Tiffany & Co. as one of its 75 luxury maisons in 2021.

The signature Tiffany Blue boxes containing sophisticated pieces such as the famous diamond ‘Engagement Ring’, the ‘Heart Tag Necklace’ and the ‘925 sterling silver rings,’ have been captivating the world since their debut and have an interesting history too. Founded by Charles Lewis Tiffany and his partner, J. B Young as ‘Tiffany & Young,’ the first Tiffany store opened on Broadway in New York City in 1837 with USD 4.98 as its first day’s sales. However, it was only after Charles took control of the company in 1853, that ‘Tiffany & Co.,’ which the world cherishes today, came into existence.

From Tiffany’s American aesthetic flourishing through the Art Deco years of the 1920s and 30s to its current collaborative flairs such as the 2023 Tiffany & Co. x Fendi limited-edition ‘Tiffany Blue’ Baguette triumphing at the global front, success came in swift for the company. So much so that the Tiffany collaborations, which began with a jewellery piece with contemporary artist Frank Gehry in 2006, are now statement emblems of pop culture.

Of late, the jewellery house has seen an incredible influx of collaborative opportunities ranging from streetwear and sports to art and fashion. Some of these run parallel to its signing of major entertainers as house ambassadors, the latest being Jimin of BTS.

Jimin becomes Tiffany brand ambassador

Jimin was appointed the new brand ambassador of Tiffany & Co. on 2 March 2023. He thus became only the second K-pop artiste after BLACKPINK’s Rosé to sign up with Tiffany.

As an ambassador, he will appear for the brand at its events and in various ad campaigns.

Following the announcement of the association, Jimin said in a statement that it is “a great honor to partner with Tiffany and embody the values of a brand that has a passion for design, innovation, and artistry.”

“He embodies the energy, style, and sense of modernity that epitomizes Tiffany and Co. We are proud and incredibly excited to unveil our future campaigns with him launching later this spring,” Alexandre Arnault, Tiffany’s executive vice president for product and communications, shared in the statement.

Tiffany said that the first campaigns featuring Jimin will arrive later in 2023. But fans of the brand won’t have to wait that long for a unique offering from Tiffany. The brand is all set for its upcoming Tiffany & Co. and Nike collaboration for a limited-edition release of Air Force 1 Low ‘1837’.

As Tiffany gears up for the sneaker, we look at some of its most well-known collaborations over the years — the ones that form a pivotal part of Tiffany’s rich and prosperous history.

K-pop girl group Aespa named global brand ambassador of Chopard https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/style/jewellery/k-pop-girl-group-aespa-brand-ambassadors-of-chopard/ Fri, 23 Sep 2022 04:00:44 +0000 https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/?p=1847529

K-Pop girl group Aespa from one of South Korea’s biggest entertainment labels, SM Town, have now become the new face of Swiss manufacturer of luxury watches, jewellery and accessories Chopard.

Caroline Scheufele has always admired the art of performance and women who embody joie de vivre – a keen enjoyment of life. Setting her eyes on Aespa, a South Korean girl group, Chopard’s Co-President and Artistic Director knew she had found the newest brand ambassadors.

With abundant youth, creativity and great energy, these rising stars effortlessly personify Chopard’s Happy Sport, Happy Diamonds, Ice Cube, Alpine Eagle, and Precious Lace collections alongside the latest My Happy Hearts collection.

Karina, Winter, Giselle and Ningning comprise the uniquely named group that adapts its image from a combination of “Avatar x Experience” and “aspect”. The group concept aims to represent innovative activities driven by the theme of experiencing a new world via the encounter of the ‘avatar’ – your other self. Innovation is not only deeply embedded in the DNA of Aespa but reflected in Chopard’s ethos.

The legendary maison continues pushing the boundaries of creativity and innovation, from engineering a proprietary steel alloy – Lucent Steel A223 – formulated entirely from recycled steel seen in its Alpine Eagle collections to the creation of dancing diamonds in 1976. Chopard designer Ronald Kurowski fell in love with light playing off water droplets from a cascading waterfall, driven to reproduce the beauty he had seen. The designer created a means for diamonds to dance across a watch dial by setting them in gold bezels sandwiched between two sapphire crystals resulting in the first Happy Diamonds watch.

Stars align as Aespa’s futuristic warrior aesthetics complement Chopard’s ingenious collections. Since Aespa made its debut in November 2020, Aespa has shown strong star power. Their single “Black Mamba” made its way to numerous international billboard charts within three days of airplay. Aespa’s success grew with hit songs like “Next Level” and “Savage”. The release of their second mini album, “Girls”, peaked at the #3 spot on the Billboard main charts, the Billboard 200 and the Artist 100.

In April 2022, Aespa commanded the spotlight at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, bringing unforgettable “aenergy” to a youthful audience of discerning music lovers. Aespa also became the first K-pop girl group to perform on the opening stage for ABC’s “Good Morning America” summer series concert, the GMA 2022 Summer Concert Series, further attesting to their growing international popularity.

Living up to their progressive concept, the group made an impactful speech at the UN 2022 High-Level Forum on Sustainable Development. Reflecting on metaverse acceleration, Giselle questioned if we are working just as hard to achieve the best results for the real world. The group believes the need for sustainable development is urgent and implores the next generation to support green goals to protect the world we share.

Chopard has been on a Journey to Sustainable Luxury since 2013, redefining ethical luxury throughout the last decade. Since 2018, all Chopard creations comprise only Fairmined-certified gold and diamonds sourced only from suppliers certified by the Responsible Jewellery Council.

Happy Sport was a trailblazer of the sport-chic trend. Conceived by Caroline Scheufele, it is the first watch created and designed by a woman for women. Never had a watchmaker combined the rarity of diamonds with the robustness of steel, taking the watchmaking industry by storm. A watch suited to unconventional women who disregard formal conventions, Aespa embodies the spirit of Happy Sport. The simplicity of the girls’ radical minimalism offers the ideal backdrop for an endless showcase that is all about light, elegance and freedom.

When it comes to My Happy Hearts and Aespa, it is a match made in heaven. A collection quintessential to young girls, each heart-shaped creation punctuates ensembles with an enchanting and innocent magnetism. My Happy Hearts invites a reinvented relationship with oneself. It presents an artful game of mix and match where different models and colours create an infinite range of expressions to suit moods, outfits and emotions.

Chopard’s Ice Cube collection is synonymous with contemporary jewellery. Pared-down and deliberately androgynous graphic and rectangular shapes refute traditional jewellery-making conventions, pairing well with the Aespa girls’ own inimitable genre. In Chopard’s latest campaign, the girls combine Ice Cube with the purity of Chopard’s Alpine Eagle watch collection, turning it into an original aesthetic.

In terms of Haute Joaillerie, Precious Lace reflects the purest traditions through its dainty and precious pieces set ablaze with light. The collection testifies to Chopard’s inspiring power in the world of jewellery, much like Aespa in the realm of K-pop. The girls bring together the magic of Chopard’s signature Haute Joaillerie collection as they march to the beat of their own drum with splendid creations, light as silk.

From every angle, Aespa reflects and accentuates the values Chopard holds dear. Glamorous, eclectic and versatile, Karina, Winter, Giselle and Ningning are likely to successfully convey the maison’s desire to empower and educate a new generation of women toward a bright and dazzling future.

‘Inside the Dream’: Bulgari’s first-ever docufilm featuring Blackpink’s Lisa, Zendaya and more https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/style/jewellery/inside-the-dream-bulgari-blackpink-lisa-zendaya-and-chiara-ferragni-docufilm/ Wed, 14 Sep 2022 15:00:14 +0000 https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/?p=1844380

Following its latest brand campaign “Unexpected Wonders” in July, Italian luxury fashion house Bulgari has unveiled their latest campaign and first-ever docufilm, Inside the Dream, offering a never-before-seen look into their stunning High Jewelry Maison.

With a distinctive style crafted over generations and a remarkable reputation for Italian excellence, it’s only fitting that Bulgari is the first High Jewelry Maison to grace our screens with its very own docufilm. Bulgari’s innovative designs rewrote the rules of jewellery and pioneered new trends in the glamorous world of high fashion — hence why they are so enduring. And for the first time, the Maison is opening its doors to reveal the creative process behind its High Jewelry collections.

Lucia Silvestri, Bulgari’s Jewelry Creative Director.

Produced by Terminal9 Studios and directed by Matthieu Menu, the docufilm “Inside the Dream” is set to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival®, of which Bulgari is official jewelry partner. Follow the footsteps of Lucia Silvestri, Bulgari’s Jewelry Creative Director and extravagant gemstone buyer, as she made her way year after year into a largely male-dominated industry. From searching for the most precious gems in Jaipur, India to crafting the unique pieces in Bulgari’s headquarters in Rome, each stage of the journey to dreamland uncovers each and every painstaking process of how the Maison produces its most coveted pieces.

Ultimately, a jewel is made to be worn. Enter a stellar cast of five extraordinary women and longtime friends of the Roman jeweller: Blackpink’s very own Lalisa aka LISA, American actress Zendaya, Italian digital entrepreneur and fashion icon Chiara Ferragni, supermodel Lily Aldridge and U.S.-based Indian actress Priyanka Chopra Jonas. Linked through their love for beauty and breathtaking jewellery, the multifaceted women embody the versatility and eclectic flair that mirror Bulgari’s values.

Among the High Jewelry collections, the Serpenti Hypnotic Emerald is the crown jewel — a true calibre of craft, holding a staggering 93.83 carat Colombian cabochon-cut emeralds with a diamond-set body. The magnificent necklace was first seen around Zendaya’s neck as she made a dazzling arrival at the red carpet of the 78th Venice International Film Festival just last year.

The docufilm “Inside the Dream” will be available on Prime Video in approximately 100 countries worldwide from September 13 2022.

The new Summoner’s Cup trophy is the product of LoL Esports’ vision and Tiffany & Co’s trophy-making expertise. The prize is a modern memento weighing nearly 20kg and standing nearly 70cm tall. The jewellery brand’s skilled artisans took four months, translating into 277 hours, to bring the sterling silver structure to life, using tools and techniques from the mid-19th century to mirror Tiffany & Co’s heritage and legacy in the new Summoner’s Cup trophy.

The iconic jewellery house has previously designed trophies for several coveted sports like football, basketball and baseball. Trophies that are already in its portfolio include the Philip F. Anschutz Trophy for Major League Soccer®, Larry O’Brien Championship Trophy for NBA, and the Super Bowl trophy.

Now, Tiffany & Co. is set to design the LoL Esports’ Summoner’s Cup trophy, joining other championship trophies for the LoL franchise, including the LoL Pro League Silver Dragon Cup.

Comments on the Tiffany & Co x LoL Esports partnership

Speaking about the partnership, Naz Aletaha, global head of League of Legends Esports for Riot Games, said the teams who lift the trophy will “represent the best of our sport — their mastery forever a part of LoL Esports’ history. As we looked to build on the prestigiousness of winning a World Championship, there was only one partner we aspired to collaborate with on the Summoner’s Cup. Tiffany & Co is a storied brand and the preeminent designer of the world’s greatest sports trophies. We’re honoured to partner with them to celebrate our past, present, and future World Champions.”

Alexandre Arnault, executive vice president of product and Communication, Tiffany & Co., said, “We are excited to continue our partnership with League of Legends Esports and the opportunity to be a part of the brand evolution for the world’s most popular esport.”

“Creating the Summoner’s Cup is another important moment for Tiffany in the world of esports and an exciting new chapter in our 160-year legacy handcrafting sports trophies,” Arnault added.

What is the Summoner’s Cup?

LoL Esports represents a premier global sport that has garnered major attention from across the world. Over 800 players compete in more than 100 professional LoL esports teams across the globe.

Further explaining the sport, a press release by Tiffany and Co. states, “Within each regional league, teams compete against one another over the course of two seasonal splits in hopes of earning regional titles and championship points.”

The Summoner’s Cup is the pinnacle competition in LoL Esports. According to Aletaha, it is a “symbol of greatness in esports and the crowning achievement in League of Legends.”

Tiffany & Co.’s NFTiff turns CryptoPunk into wearable pendants https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/tech/tiffany-nftiff-cryptopunk-wearable-jewelry/ Wed, 03 Aug 2022 08:30:27 +0000 https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/?p=1840307

Tiffany & Co.’s new NFTiff division is making handcrafted CryptoPunk pendants for 30 Ethereum (approximately THB 1,814,000) modelled after their original NFTs. Here’s all you need to know about it.

Wasn’t the point of the Cryptoverse to keep things digital? Well, Tiffany clearly doesn’t believe so. They’ve actually dived into CryptoPunk’s digital archives and physically materialized a JPEG as a piece of wearable jewelry. This isn’t even a joke, it has CryptoPunk fans and jewelry hypebeasts on their toes for what is literally a $50,000 physical extension of their NFT package. From what we can gather, each pendant will house at least 30 diamonds or gemstones and will be slinging on an 18K gold chain with five pave diamonds on the clasp.

Tiffany NFTiff CryptoPunk Wearable Jewelry

Of course, only CryptoPunk NFT owners can receive this special treatment and if you’re looking at joining this club, thinking it’s just a silly pixelated JPEG, just know that they fetch for an average of $200,000 per piece. And there are 10,000 of them out there. It’s a mad world, yes.

You might be wondering, why would a luxe tycoon like Tiffany want to go about materalizing NTFs? Well, this isn’t the first time they’ve indulged in the Cryptoverse. Back in March, they announced the purchase of a $380,000 NFT that’s well, quite similar to children’s drawing. The next month, they April fooled the world with ‘TiffCoin’ which actually would’ve been interesting. This, however, was a marketing teaser for their 18K gold coins. But evidently, their TG now extends towards existing NFT holders and crypto-kings.

Tiffany NFTiff

Anyway, let’s talk about the pendant. Promising to transform your NFT into a bespoke pendant, specially handcrafted by Tiffany & Co. artisans, NFTiff has said they strive to create pendants “with the highest fidelity” to the original CryptoPunk art. Tiffany explains, “CryptoPunk colors are represented as closely as possible using the natural colors of various gemstones. For example, to create the 3D glasses, Tiffany designers will leverage baguette stones.” They will also have their unique CryptoPunk number engraved on the rear.

The coolest ear piercing trends of 2022 https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/style/jewellery/ear-piercings-trends-2022/ Sat, 02 Jul 2022 00:00:42 +0000 https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/?p=1836379 ear piercing trends

If you’ve scrolled through Instagram lately, you’ve probably noticed that ear piercings are incredibly popular right now. Here are eight of the most popular ear piercing trends right now.

Unlike your childhood piercings, the modern version is all about having a look that’s tailored to your ears and aesthetics. You can’t go wrong when it comes to customising your ear, whether you prefer ultra-stacked, bohemian vibes or a delicate and minimalist look. Don’t know where to start? To get you inspired, we’ve compiled a list of some of the coolest ear piercing ideas of all time.

[Hero image credit: Kimia Zarifi/Unsplash; featured image credit: @bodyelectrictattoo/Instagram ]

8 ear piercing trends of 2022

Inner conch piercing

What could be more stunning than a single conch piercing? The double conch, of course. We are delighted to see conch piercings make a comeback, more so with the ’90s back in trend again. They’re also a terrific statement piercing for folks who are sick of seeing the same normcore minimalist jewellery everywhere. You will however, have to be patient with this one; because this happens in the cartilage, it can take up to a year to mend, according to experts.

Daith piercing

Daith piercings can be quite painful, but when they look this good, the sacrifice is well worth it. Keep it simple with a singular gold hoop or pair it with delicate studs for an incredibly minimalist vibe.

Double ear piercing

If you want to make a statement, this is the look for you. For a carefully crafted aesthetic, mix plain studs with different sized crystals.

The subtle ear piercing

Want a well-curated ear that’s effortless chic? Look to this subtle, trendy ear-piercing concept for ultimate inspiration. Tiny gold hoops and earrings are the way to go here.

Stacked lobe

A post shared by STONE AND STRAND (@stoneandstrand)

If you’re too afraid to venture into cartilage area, don’t worry. Instead, stack the earrings on your lobes. According to experts, some people would request to just ‘fill up’ their ear in a neat, evenly spaced row, while others will be encouraged to make some very personalised cluster piercings.

Tragus

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by STONE AND STRAND (@stoneandstrand)

Unconventional options like tragus piercings are gaining popularity for their subtlety. This is one of the most understated piercings. It’s not immediately noticeable since it’s so near to your face. One of the best things about tragus ear piercings is that they look as stunning with single or double piercings as they do with a fully stacked lobe.

Industrial piercing

This piercing looks fabulous with studs, and you may wear different earrings or keep them all the same depending on your style. Though they are difficult to heal due to the fact that they are two cartilage piercings instead of one, go for it if a, well, industrial aesthetic is what you’re after.

Everything to know about Kendrick Lamar’s Tiffany & Co ‘Crown of Thorns’ https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/style/jewellery/all-about-tiffany-co-crown-of-thorns-worn-by-kendrick-lamar/ Wed, 29 Jun 2022 06:00:37 +0000 https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/?p=1836055

Grammy Award-winning artist Kendrick Lamar made headlines once again as he concluded his debut, jaw-dropping performance at the Glastonbury music festival earlier this week.

The Pulitzer Prize winner and renowned rapper sported a diamond-encrusted ‘Crown of Thorns’ crafted by the famous jewellery house Tiffany & Co., which also instantly stood out.

However, it is the same headpiece that the American rapper is seen wearing in the artworks of his fifth studio album Mr Morale & the Big Steppers. The jewellery brand made the headpiece along with Lamar and his creative collaborator and pgLang co-founder Dave Free. Lamar also wore it to the recent Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer 2023 show.

There is a lot that went behind making the crown of thorns. Religious symbolism, coupled with the artist’s spirit, and immense hard work makes the headgear a statement piece.

Here’s all we know about Kendrick Lamar’s Tiffany & Co crown of thorns headpiece

Meaning and significance

Kendrick Lamar Tiffany & Co crown of thorns

Tiffany & Co has been making iconic jewellery pieces since the 19th century. With this headpiece, the house has seamlessly blended art and representation of religious iconography. According to Vogue, Free said, “The crown is a godly representation of hood philosophies told from a digestible youthful lens.”

The headpiece is inspired by Jean Schlumberger’s iconic Thorns brooch from 1947, which features a large 47-carat sapphire surrounded by thorns.

Rustling up images from the New Testament, the crown of thorns is of religious significance. It was placed on the head of Jesus Christ before his crucifixion. For the jeweller, it represents, “artistic prowess, humility and perseverance,” says Vogue. However, for Lamar himself, the crown is an ode to the struggle of all artists who have come before him.

This headpiece took on a whole new meaning at the Glastonbury festival on the Pyramid Stage. Before performing “Savior” from Mr Morale & The Big Steppers, Lamar told the crowd that it was his favourite track from the album as it celebrates imperfection. According to the Vogue report, Lamar wore the crown to remind all, “They judge you, they judge Christ.”

These words were used as a refrain throughout the song and added a powerful message at the end, “Godspeed for women’s rights!” as he showed his support for women who were shocked by the rollback of abortion rights in the US.

The making of the crown of thorns

The crown was crafted by four Tiffany & Co artisans over 10 months. It took 1300 hours to set the thousands of diamonds and breathe life into the headpiece, which is assembled from 16 individual pieces.

The crown comprises over 8,000 pavé diamonds, adding to 137 carats, and was made from highly polished titanium. Featuring 50 thorns and weighing 200 grams, it took shape in Tiffany’s New York workshop and assembled in the northern region of Italy to fit Lamar. The crown of thorns also bears an engraving— ‘Mr Morale’ — in tune with Lamar’s latest album.

As per Vogue, Alexandre Arnault, executive vice president, product and communication, Tiffany & Co, said, “Kendrick Lamar represents the artistry, risk-taking creativity and relentless innovation that has also defined Tiffany & Co. for nearly two centuries.”

He added, “We are proud and incredibly excited to work with a visionary like Kendrick in realising his vision for the crown.”

After nearly a year of planning and designing, the stunning crown was ready to be packed in the brand’s signature blue box.

Bras, waist chains, and jewel caps: How jewellery is making a comeback this summer https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/style/jewellery/bras-waist-chains-jewellery-comeback-this-summer/ Tue, 21 Jun 2022 01:00:09 +0000 https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/?p=1834446 jewellery comeback

Whilst a lot of people did not wear jewellery during the pandemic lockdowns, we’re happy to report that it is finally coming back — and in grand style, too. From crystal bras to bejewelled waist chains, here’s a closer look at the comeback of jewellery in all its special forms.

Largely shunned during the pandemic, jewellery is now making a comeback. And, not content with adding the finishing touch to our most sophisticated looks, jewellery is now landing in totally unexpected forms, often elevated from a simple accessory to a garment in its own right. From jewel caps to bras, headbands and eye gems, get ready to see jewels shining everywhere.

If you have to pick just one accessory to slip into your suitcase this summer — apart from the essential sunglasses and hat — something bejewelled looks like a safe bet. After months of being relegated to the back of our closets, jewellery is (finally) coming back to the forefront to accessorise an increasingly assertive, maximalist aesthetic, reflecting a need for colours, patterns, sparkles and other eccentricities. As we head into summer, earrings, cuffs and waterfall jewellery are all busting out of lockdown, showing themselves in a new light.

Jewellery comeback: Hailey Bieber leads with the crystal bra

Driven by many celebrities and social media influencers — Hailey Bieber in the lead — the jewel bra has a growing number of followers around the world, allowing ‘no bra’ aficionados to dress their breasts without constraint — or almost — while covering just enough to avoid social media censorship. As a result, from the big luxury houses to fast fashion brands, jewel bras are everywhere. But if there’s one model that’s proving particularly popular, it’s the crystal bra, with search interest up considerably in one year on Google Trends (+93%), and skyrocketing on the global fashion search engine Stylight (+1,000%).

And that’s not the only way that jewellery is taking over our wardrobes. Not content with becoming underwear, jewellery caps are now also a thing, adding a bohemian or oriental touch, depending on the model and style. Beaded caps are doing well, with a 137% increase in search interest on Google Trends, and over 1,000% on the specialised platform Stylight. Jewellery is also being transformed into belts — channeling Y2K nostalgia — or, more precisely, into belly chains (+61% on Google Trends), and into facial stick-ons like eye gems (+75%).

Crown jewels

When it’s not stepping into the role of a garment, jewellery seems determined to ramp up femininity — or clichés — to the extreme, adopting a regal air. Indeed, Elizabeth II, recently in the spotlight thanks to her Platinum Jubilee celebrations, seems to have been a source of inspiration for many. The tiara is, for example, now buzzing online, with a 313% increase in clicks on Stylight, as are the famous Swarovski crystals (+429%) and waterfall jewellery (+63% on Google Trends).

Stack your memories (and rings) with the new Piaget Possession collection https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/style/jewellery/stack-your-memories-and-rings-with-the-new-piaget-possession-collection/ Mon, 25 Apr 2022 04:52:11 +0000 https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/?p=1826129 Possession

It all started with a simple turn of ring. Since it was created in 1900, Possession has become such an iconic jewellery line for Piaget. With a collection of rings, bracelets, earrings, and necklaces that continues to grow today, Possession is now welcoming some fresh and young additions to the group. With stack-able pieces and more vibrant colours, these novelties come with a modern-day mindset for both men and women to have fun and “turn life on”.

Celebrating life and youthful energy, the shapes in the Possession collection revolve around a movement, a spin, or a playful twist. The idea is to express a feeling of uniqueness and joy for the wearer.

[All images courtesy of Piaget]

Combining the classic beauty of gold with the vivid colours of high-quality stones, Possession is all about stacking, mixing, and being creative with our jewellery pieces. There’s so much fun involved in playing with their incredible range of colours. You could pair a vivid blue ring with a bright green earring for a perfect tropical match.

Many of the pieces themselves are customisable, such as the necklaces that can be worn long or short. One neck, ten fingers, two wrists, and two earlobes: the possibilities are endless. And Piaget Possession is here to provide.

All of the precious stones in Piaget’s offerings are sourced according to Piaget’s highly selective standards. For the additions to the Possession collection, new sapphires, emeralds, and rubies  bring more lively colours and light to three new sets of high jewellery. To keep encouraging inventiveness and individuality, all earrings are sold individually from the new collection. It’s up to you to buy one, or four.

Piaget possession

Like a charm bracelet celebrating life, you can continue to add more pieces to your stack for each great memory or milestone. Celebration, spirit, and statement – that’s what Possession is all about.

Q&A: Pacharee Sophie and Kunthalee Vera, founders of jewellery brand MoonTree https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/style/jewellery/interview-pacharee-vera-moontree-jewelry/ Fri, 22 Apr 2022 01:00:15 +0000 https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/?p=1823450

Sisters and founders Pacharee Sophie and Kunthalee Vera who inherited their love and passion for gems and pearls from their beloved father, were destined to create MoonTree.

Dream-like pearls, birthstones, chains, and gemstones: these are the perfect jewellery pieces to delight and enhance imaginations, and are the kind that Thai jewellery brand MoonTree likes to create. You can even spot a piece from their collection in an episode of Sex and the City, worn and chosen by Carrie Bradshaw herself. There’s something incredibly mystical and timeless about MoonTree’s pieces; they are intimate and unique, and can be passed on for generations to come.

That is precisely what founders and sisters Pacharee Sophie and Kunthalee Vera had in mind when creating MoonTree. The two sisters became mothers under almost the same lunar sky, were raised in a gems and pearls trading family, and have inherited their father’s unique storytelling abilities to be passed on to their jewellery. For them, MoonTree was fate.

With this, the passion they have for natural gemstones comes naturally. MoonTree, to them, is not just a brand of clothing and jewellery, but a belief to pass on to parents and raise their children in the utmost creative ways. To let your imaginations roam, allowing their little wonders to wander freely, and see creativity in every blink of their eye.

Here, we got to sit and talk to the sisters about what inspired their brand, from their journey into adulthood, to their expanded interests into natural fabrics and local arts. We learn about how these two art collectors and jewel makers also support local artists into developing something they can truly believe in and honour, and the future they have in store for MoonTree.

Tiffany & Co. turns to NFTs with a CryptoPunk pendant https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/style/jewellery/tiffany-cryptopunk-pendant/ Mon, 11 Apr 2022 11:00:59 +0000 https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/?p=1824575

To announce his official entry into the crypto world, Tiffany & Co.’s executive Vice President Alexandre Arnault debuted a shiny new pendant with a CryptoPunk makeover of his NFT profile picture that he owns. Here’s what we know about the Tiffany & Co. CryptoPunk pendant.

The New York jeweller changed his Twitter and Instagram profile pictures to a CryptoPunk with a pixelated face donning 3D glasses and a beanie. He did not seem to be discouraged in spite of his father, Bernard Arnault, publicly expressing concern and scepticism regarding him getting involved with crypto and NFTs, just days before his pendant was revealed.

The NFT, titled Punk 3167, was sold for ETH 160 (approximately USD 416,400), reported Vogue Business. Arnault’s entry into the NFT community showcases the metamorphosis that luxury jewellery and fashion houses are going through, to adapt to the new and advanced digital era, led by the younger generation of VPs and CEOs. The legitimacy of his new profile picture was even confirmed by French fashion house Louis Vuitton.

About the Tiffany & Co. CryptoPunk pendant

To further strengthen his presence in the NFT community, Alexandre unveiled the rose gold and enamel CryptoPunk, designed and crafted by Tiffany & Co. Inspired by his NFT profile picture, the pendant features a pixelated face embellished with a sapphire and a Mozambique ruby, both baguette-cut, along with a round-cut yellow diamond adorning the punk’s ear. The pendant is also engraved with the Tiffany & Co. copyright.

“When punks go wild at @TiffanyAndCo”, he captioned his tweet indicating the launch of his unique NFT-themed jewellery.

Other projects by Tiffany & Co.

Recently, Tiffany & Co. achieved significant advancement in the metaverse by acquiring the Tom Sachs: Rocket Factory NFT, a token blending Sachs’ space-age ethos with a series of one-of-one rocket ships. Tom Sachs’ brilliantly imaginative Rocket Factory marked the American artist’s foray into the world of non-fungible tokens. Sachs’ initiative describes itself as “a trans-dimensional manufacturing plant which uses NFTs to build new NFTs”.

The American luxury jewellery brand also executed an April Fool’s prank by announcing the launch of its new cryptocurrency, TiffCoin, earlier this month. Even though the TiffCoin cryptocurrency was not real, the brand went on to drop a collection of engraved and uniquely numbered physical gold coins instead. Owners of this gold TiffCoin would be privy to future exclusive Tiffany & Co events and be a part of the brand’s tightly-knit community.

Tiffany & Co. and Pharrell team up to make 25-carat diamond sunglasses https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/style/jewellery/tiffany-co-pharrell-diamond-sunglasses/ Mon, 24 Jan 2022 05:53:32 +0000 https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/?p=1815906

Tiffany & Co. knows where it’s at. After tapping on Supreme and Beyoncé, the jewellery maker is now collaborating with yet another superstar tastemaker: Pharrell Williams.

The musician was spotted with Kanye West and Tyler, the Creator at the Kenzo Fall/Winter 2022 runway show in Paris Fashion Week wearing custom Tiffany & Co. sunglasses. The stylish, almond-shaped pair was made of 18k gold and were boldly embellished with 61 round brilliant diamonds of over 25 total carats, as well as two emerald-cut emeralds.

[Header photo credit: Stephane Cardinale / Corbis / Getty Images]

In an interview with WWD, Pharrell revealed that the dazzling shades were “the first of many things that I’m gonna do with Tiffany… It’s a partnership… It’s about seeing things differently.”

Could he be hinting at a sunglasses collaboration and jewellery collection together?

After all, it’s no secret that Pharrell loves his luxury sunglasses, especially those by French brand Chanel, for which he has modelled in an eyewear campaign. In its recent buzzy collaborations, Tiffany & Co. has also ventured beyond the jewellery it is known for to offer T-shirts and Blue Box sculptures. We won’t be surprised if the New York luxury brand expands into yet another category for its upcoming partnership.

While there isn’t an official release date for the upcoming Pharrell x Tiffany & Co. line yet, we can definitely expect it to launch in the coming months. For now, take a closer look at Pharrell’s (and your) new favourite sunglasses, as well as their custom Tiffany Blue Box packaging below.

A closer look at the Tiffany Knot collection, a symbol of bold elegance https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/style/jewellery/tiffany-cos-latest-tiffany-knot-is-what-you-need-to-exude-bold-and-elegance/ Fri, 14 Jan 2022 05:40:40 +0000 https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/?p=1814279

The Tiffany Knot, Tiffany & Co’s newest addition, is the perfect symbolism of elegance and strength to add to your jewellery collection. Here’s why.

Mastering the art of ‘making it’ in New York demands a rebellious streak, grit and a strong sense of self. In a city that commands strength of character and an unspoken understanding of one another, New Yorkers are known to be individualists, who are part of a larger collective. Tiffany Knot personifies this very spirit.

(All images: Tiffany & Co.)

The collection is a clever interplay of opposites, in which smooth organic lines mingle with striking jagged angles on easy-to-wear bracelets, rings, necklaces, pendants and earrings. Subversive, audacious and individualistic all at once, the pieces are meant to be worn as both a statement of rebellion and a talisman of connection with those who ‘know’ and love the city’s indomitable spirit.

Distinguished by a motif of entwined ends forming a graphic knot, styles in yellow and rose gold seduce with sleek curves of precious metal and sharp edges that add dimensionality. If you’re after something scintillating, there are iterations featuring pavé diamonds that are hand-set at precise angles for maximum brilliance.

Tough yet delicate, just like the city that inspired it, each Tiffany Knot design is a complex feat of craftsmanship. The collection’s key piece is a double-row necklace that is set with over 300 pavé diamonds, which instil the design its movement and scale. A raw form in gold is painstakingly coaxed into a provocative design in the hands of one of Tiffany’s master artisans, who spent more than 22 hours crafting the Tiffany Knot pavé diamond hinged bracelet boasting over 400 dazzling diamonds.

Only the wearer knows that the gold knot motif deftly conceals the innovative clasp that opens the bracelet with a gentle twist. The craftsman employs both technical know-how and creative ingenuity to make the piece appear as one continuous, connected design – a testament to the exacting standards that drive the house’s constant search for innovation, rigour of form and precision of proportion.

Tiffany & Co. x Supreme: where jewellery and streetwear collide https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/style/jewellery/tiffany-co-x-supreme-jewellery-and-streetwear-collide/ Wed, 10 Nov 2021 05:24:27 +0000 https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/?p=1808585 tiffany supreme

The Tiffany & Co. x Supreme collab is landing worldwide this 11 November 2021. Here’s what we know.

The mixing of genres and styles is as relevant as ever in the fashion world, where collaborations seem each more unexpected than the next. The latest brings together two very distinct worlds — jewellery and streetwear — and two major names: Tiffany & Co. and Supreme. And it’s a combination that already looks like a sure-fire success…

Tiffany & Co. x Supreme: A shocking collab

A shockwave rippled through the world of fashion this weekend — and we’re hardly exaggerating — when legendary jeweller Tiffany & Co. and luxury streetwear giant Supreme simultaneously posted a teaser on social media suggesting a collaboration. Almost 24 hours later, the rumours were confirmed, with two new simultaneous posts giving a clearer idea of what the fruit of this partnership will look like.

The jeweller has indeed teamed up with Supreme on a collection of sterling silver jewellery, mixing the style and DNA of each brand. Some pieces have a hint of bling — although this remains quite subtle — such as a key-shaped keyring that turns into a pocket knife, and a bracelet with several stars. The collab also makes use of the fine, high-end materials typically associated with the expertise of Tiffany & Co. with a necklace made entirely of freshwater cultured pearls.

“Return to Tiffany”

Called “Return to Tiffany,” the collection draws inspiration from a series of pieces launched in the 1960s, the two houses explain on their respective Instagram pages. The collaboration, landing from November 11 worldwide — or November 13 in Japan — also includes a logo T-shirt.

After featuring Beyoncé and Jay-Z in its last campaign, Tiffany & Co. appears to be continuing its drive to diversify and reach out to a new, younger target with this collection. It is embodied by various young talents, including the skater, designer and model Sean Pablo.

Siamese sentiments meet French luxury at Cartier’s renovated Siam Paragon flagship https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/style/jewellery/siamese-sentiments-meet-french-luxury-at-cartiers-renovated-siam-paragon-flagship/ Wed, 27 Oct 2021 18:31:18 +0000 https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/?p=1806945 cartier boutique full

In a nod to Cartier’s longstanding history with Thailand, the newly renovated boutique of the maison at Siam Paragon gracefully combines the brand’s heritage with elements of Thai culture and tradition.

Established in 2006, the Cartier Siam Paragon boutique has remained an iconic Cartier presence in Thailand for over 15 years. However, the rapport between Thailand and Cartier goes back much longer than that. The relationship between the French jewellery and the royal court first began in 1907, when Cartier received the royal warrant of appointment from the House of Chakri during King Chulalongkorn (Rama V)’s reign. He also paid a royal visit to the Cartier flagship boutique on 13 rue de la Paix, Paris.

The boutique

To commemorate 115 years of the relationship between Cartier and Thailand, the newly renovated 400sqm boutique brings together elements of Thai art and culture with Cartier’s iconic design language.

cartier boutique interior zoom

Glass and marble set off the tone of the boutique, accentuated with gold-braided patterns that hark back to the wall panelling technique of traditional Thai architecture. Upon entering, guests are greeted with an ornate bas-relief sculpture with scenes depicting the temples of Bangkok and Cartier’s symbolic panther as it roams across Thailand.

The boutique’s walls and sofas are clad in Thai silk upholstery. In contrast, the walls of the Prestige room are adorned with mosaic tiles reminiscent of temple art. The walls of the Central Space feature woven fabrics with patterns featuring the Ratchaphruek or golden shower, Thailand’s national flower. Another decorative piece that metaphorically reflects the boutique’s Siamese characteristics is the sculptural chandelier. This exclusively designed masterpiece gives an impression of falling raindrops and thus the country’s monsoon season and tropical climate.

“The new boutique that you are discovering today is a matrimony and a subtle blend between the richness of Thai culture and the Maison’s codes and aesthetics. Its brightness, use of beautiful curves and traditional crafts encrusted everywhere, make it unique and unprecedented. Light, transparency and luxurious materials create a serene, precious, elegant and warm environment that you will be enchanted to re-discover,” concludes Cécile Naour, CEO of Cartier Southeast Asia and Oceania.

Cartier Tank Asymétrique Siam Limited Edition

In celebration of this stellar anniversary, a special Cartier Tank Asymétrique Siam Limited Edition was introduced. Coveted by many collectors, the Cartier Tank Asymétrique boasts a unique asymmetric dial with a 30 degrees offset that forms a graceful diamond-like profile. The slanted lozenge silhouette sees the number 12 placed on the dial’s uppermost corner and the number 6 in the opposite direction on the watch’s lowermost corner. The limited edition is distinctive with a ruby crown, traditional Thai numerals, and a ‘Siam’ engraving and serial number on the caseback. The timepiece also comes with a second alligator-skin strap in Siamese Ruby hue.

Available in a limited number of 55 pieces only, Cartier Tank Asymétrique Siam Limited Edition is presented in an exclusive collector’s box depicting a panther roaming against the backdrop of Thai temples. This is truly a collectable watch that will last for many generations to come.

Cartier: a historical journey through the exhibition

Additionally, the renovation of the flagship boutique is also celebrated with an exhibition showcasing rare creations from the Cartier Collection and historically exceptional timepieces, jewellery and accessories from the Cartier archive. The pieces are records of the maison’s heritage that span 170-year of history and provide wider historical hindsight to the progression of art, style and technical progress that has evolved since the 19th century.

Other highlights include the Cartier diamond brooches in Garland Style, an iconic technique of Cartier enjoyed in royal courts worldwide. For those interested in royal Thai history, the Cartier necklace gifted to Queen Sri Bajrindra (Saovabha Phongsri) by King Chulalongkorn during his royal visit to Europe will further intrigue.

The exhibition will be held until November 18, 2021, at Boutique Cartier Siam Paragon on M Level of Siam Paragon.

Forget about carrying miniature bags – Hermès’ Kellymorphose collection insists you wear them instead https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/style/jewellery/forget-miniature-bags-when-you-can-wear-hermes-kellymorphose/ Wed, 08 Sep 2021 07:45:25 +0000 https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/?p=1801949

In recent years, one noticeable style trend is the popularity of micro and nano-sized bags. Topping off the game is the Hermès Kellymorphose, which takes luxury fashion and the concept of miniature bags to a whole new level.

It seems as if fashion houses and brands are competing to come up with the most petite handbags. Even the most iconic designs are getting the shrinking treatment, becoming increasingly smaller and smaller as if someone has been practising the Reducio charm on them (yes, we are making a Harry Potter reference to drive the point home). And, if you think that Lizzo’s red carpet look and her tiny bag is already tiny and precious enough, try this: an Hermès Kelly, reinterpreted into a miniature, high jewellery version.

Hermès Kellymorphose

Forget leather bags and shiny hardware, for here we have a bag that is a piece of jewellery on its own. With the Kellymorphose, the iconic bag is deconstructed and transformed. Rather than slung across the body or carried around, the Kelly now becomes an ornament for the neck, wrist and fingers.

Pierre Hardy, Creative Director of Hermès jewellery, takes apart beloved elements of the Kelly’s signature trapezoidal architecture, its two-side straps, clasp, padlock and keyholder, before recreating them in precious materials. It’s subtle, but at the same time, a statement piece that pays tribute to the Maison’s famous bag.

“The Kelly bag elevates its functional components: the side straps and an elemental clasp consisting of a turnlock, a plate and four studs. I do the same with Kelly jewellery, by reinterpreting or disrupting its original lines.”

Pierre Hardy, Creative Director of Hermès jewellery

Made of precious metals, the pieces are available in a choice of gleaming rose gold, velvety black spinels, white gold and solid silver set with baguette-cut diamonds. The collection errs on the feminine side, with delicate chains that can be worn in various ways, whether draped once or twice around the neck, upon the décolleté or flowing down one’s back.

Playful Metamorphoses

Through the collection, Pierre Hardy experimented with proportions and functions through the Lewis Carroll-esque, miniaturised Précieux necklace, while the double AlphaKelly rings with the padlocks and chains cheekily play with the concept of liberation. Most unique, perhaps, is the Kelly Gavroche necklace. Just like an Hermès silk scarf, the diamond-studded side strap is fashioned and tied, turning it into a statement jewellery piece for all occasions.

Beyonce and Jay-Z star in Tiffany & Co.’s latest ‘About Love’ campaign https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/style/jewellery/beyonce-and-jay-z-tiffany-co-about-love-campaign/ Mon, 23 Aug 2021 10:06:03 +0000 https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/?p=1800515 Beyonce Jay-Z Tiffany & Co Basquiat

We could hardly think of a better power couple than Beyonce and Jay-Z to embody the meaning of modern love. The duo is set to star in Tiffany & Co.’s latest ‘About Love’ campaign, marking an interesting new creative direction for the jewellery brand.

Together with Tiffany & Co., the Carters have collaborated for a series of firsts. The campaign features Beyonce wearing a never-before-seen diamond, against a never-before-unveiled painting, and performing one of the most beautiful and romantic classic songs of the past century. Captured by Jay-Z on a Super 8 camera, it is a moving campaign that is gentle and significant all at once. Here’s everything you need to know about this very artsy — and quite extraordinary — collaboration.

[All images courtesy of Tiffany & Co.]

Beyonce Jay-Z Tiffany & Co

A campaign about vulnerability, strength, and creativity

Under a theme of modern love, Beyonce and Jay-Z star in Tiffany & Co.’s campaign as the epitome of a 21st century love story. Millennials and huge fans ourselves, it’s a fitting image for current times, but the star diamond of the campaign also holds roots further back in history.

‘About Love’ aims to explore delicate notions of connection and vulnerability, and does so in first line with the unveiling of the Tiffany Diamond, which has never been featured in a campaign ever before. As part of a private collection until now, it is revealed together with Basquiat’s Equals Pi, a work of art that also makes its very first public appearance. The diamond weighs 128.54 carats, and boasts an incredible 82 facets. It was first unearthed in 1877 in South Africa, before being purchased by Tiffany & Co. founder Charles Lewis Tiffany in 1878. Holding a deeply-rooted and meaningful story, it’s only fitting, then, that the diamond be worn by a woman worthy of its magnitude. Naturally, in 2021, that woman is Beyonce.

Not one to outshine, but definitely not to be missed either, Jay-Z stands strong and sophisticated next to his wife, wearing Jean Schlumberger’s Bird on a Rock brooch, which has been reconstructed as a pair of cuff links. Those who know of Jean Schlumberger, will know that he was beloved by New York’s high society in the 1960s and 1970s for his impeccable taste. It’s a suitable match, as the creative of the past meets one of the greatest creatives of the present, even if (only) as the final touch to a dress shirt.

Beyonce sings Moon River from the 1961 film Breakfast at Tiffany’s

Directed by Emmanuel Adjei, a short film accompanies the ‘About Love’ campaign. It features a musical performance of the classic Moon River from Breakfast at Tiffany’s. The vocals come from Beyonce herself, and we see Jay-Z capturing the moments on a Super 8 camera for the campaign. It all takes place at Orum House in Los Angeles, and is backdropped by Basquiat’s Equals Pi painting throughout. The sequence is dream-like and cinematic, much like the trance of falling in love — with a very much contemporary and artistic touch.

In support of Historically Black Colleges and Universities

As part of their partnership with the Carters, Tiffany & Co. have pledged a USD 2 million (approx. THB 67 million) commitment towards scholarship and internship programs for Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Highlighting the importance of giving back, the collaboration spotlights not only the modern values of modern love, but also a nod to the future.

‘About Love’ will launch globally on 2 September 2021. The film will launch online on 15 September, with additional films to be unveiled throughout the course of the year.

Chain necklaces are the simplest ones to wear and consist of chain links that may come in many varieties and styles. Metal chain necklaces in gold and silver are the rage these days, and they go with every outfit from basic to athleisure and fancy.

You can layer them to varying lengths and accessorise them with your casual outfit to give it a chic look and wear it with formals too.

Choker necklace

The statement necklaces of the ’90s, chokers give a snug and yet glamorous look to your neck. Before chokers were made famous by pop-punk stars, they used to be the royal accessory (or more like an amulet) of pharaohs in ancient Egypt.

Choker necklaces look regal and go best with off-shoulder and low-cut necklines.

Lariat necklace

Lariat necklaces are long and can also be multi-stranded that usually form a ‘Y’ shape when worn around the neck. It can be wrapped around the neck either once or multiple times and sometimes tied at the front for a tassel-like look. Placing it loosely around the neck, with either both ends hanging or one end meeting the chain while the other is attached to a pendant, adds to the many styles of wearing lariats.

These are the perfect necklaces to add a hint of elegance and drama to your outfit with plunging or V-necklines. Single-chained lariat necklaces look great when paired with semi-formal attire.

Sautoir is a long necklace consisting of usually a fine gold chain set with jewels that draw the eye to the hanging or loose end, also seen with an interchangeable tassel or a pendant. Other variants include a simple, long necklace with a distinctive progression of embellished links.

They have been around throughout history and are wardrobe staples for enhancing feminine silhouettes.

Princess necklace

Princess necklaces are slightly longer than a choker and extend a little below the collarbone. They are often embellished with precious or semi-precious stones and look flattering with special outfits for a cocktail party or formal lunch.

Rivière necklace

Rivière means ‘river’ in French. This is a type of short necklace that consists of the same type of precious or semi-precious gemstones representing smooth gradation or river-like flow around the neck.

Rivière necklaces are a form of high-jewellery with the sole focus on its illuminating and intricate gemstones that make it a perfect accessory to pair with gowns and date-night outfits.

A négligée consists of two parallel and asymmetrical drops from a pendant that remain the focal point of the necklace. Defining high-jewellery during the Edwardian era (1901–1910), they were worn by rich aristocrats in precious elements such as platinum and diamonds.

Négligée necklaces exude royalty and can be paired with V-neckline gowns and fancy outfits. They are quite versatile and can also be paired over turtleneck tops or dresses.

Statement necklaces, as the name suggests, make a bold statement and can depict a personal meaning, a tribute to someone or something featuring engraved initials, names, charms, medallions or a message.

Statement necklaces make for a subtle and effortless accessory piece that can be paired with any outfit.

Pearls are timeless and a must-have in every woman’s accessory closet. Short pearl necklaces can elevate any ensemble, while a long strand of pearls can complement a casual and a classy outfit equally.

Investing in high-quality and fine pearls in natural colours is worth every dime and you can enjoy it for a lifetime before passing it onto the next generations.

Layered necklaces are the hottest jewellery trend these days. You can choose to layer celeb-approved multiple-chain necklaces or your favourite statement necklaces of various lengths together — the more, the merrier!

Mix and match layered chain necklaces of different textures and lengths, with choker chains or drop-pendants to take any ensemble up a notch.

Inspired by Bella Hadid’s viral look, here are 10 very large necklaces to cop https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/style/jewellery/shop-bella-hadid-necklace-schiaparelli-cannes-2021/ Thu, 22 Jul 2021 00:06:10 +0000 https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/?p=1797384 schiaparelli-bella-hadid-necklace-cannes

There’s no way you didn’t spot Bella Hadid and her statement necklace on the Cannes carpet this year. Arguably, it was one of the best looks of the year.

On paper, a slinky black dress styled alongside a statement gold necklace is predictably humdrum; nothing to write — or text; or any manner of communication — home about. Until the equation is casted on one Bella Hadid. To the surprise of absolutely nobody, the 24-year-old supermodel, once again, proves she has the Midas touch. Everything she does is magic! Everything she touches turns to gold!

Bella Hadid stole some breaths at this year’s Cannes festival in Schiaparelli, with the yoke of her dress entirely cut out and replaced by gilded trompe l’oeil lungs — creeping, crawling and branching off down paths of bronchioles that also look a little like roots. Tree branches. How your synapses connect in your brain when you have a thought.

As for us mere mortals who will not have the opportunity to be styled-and-coifed in Schiaparelli haute couture save for very vivid fever dreams, here are some extra-large necklaces that could stand-in as inspiration. For your consideration: Go big or go home!

This article first appeared on Lifestyle Asia Hong Kong.

The many, many strands of crystals making up the execution of this Rosantica necklace are made to move with your every step; your every turn. Every single movement, no matter the subtlety, really. We’re styling this with a pretty scoop-neck that follows the tender curve of the necklace’s bib-like swoop, probably with something ribbed-knit or cotton jersey for a hi-lo momentUnless you’re dressing to impress, in which case: Black satin and opera gloves. Fancy.

Approx. THB 10,659

If it’s drama you’re looking for, Alexander McQueen’s incredibly large chokercasted in the image of a pair of life-sized lobster claws, should do the trick. You won’t — can’t, actually — miss it; it’s much, much too big to be glossed overIf the piece looks a smidge on the side of intense, fear not: The bulk of the choker was specifically designed to sit comfortably at the notch of the collarbone.

Price
Approx. THB 17,199

There’s always a patent sense of found magic that accompanies a Begüm Khan designthe kind that feels a certain measure of eccentric so unlike the very dainty, very slight jewellery we’ve seemed to gravitate towards in recent years. Khan’s designs? Unafraid of heft. A very large eyeball follows a very large beetle follows a very large giraffe; and for this particular design, a very large turtle afloat beneath a substantial string of freshwater pearls. We’re envisioning this piece worn on vacation against crocheted knits and raffia sunhats.

Price
Approx. THB 49,203

This is a necklace, yes, but it’s also a bracelet, aanklet, a hair accessory and whatever else your mind and motor skills can conjure up. PEARL OCTOPUSS.Y’s Golden Snake design contorts into formations that must take a little bit of imagination, with the final execution made even more striking with the colossal faux pearls punctuating either end. Some might say there’s a time and place for jewellery this dramatic, but we’re keen for a touch of fantasy on a casual Monday morning. Or any other.

Price
Approx. THB 10,279

Whether you’re of a fancy debutante class or simply reminiscing on your favourite prom memory, the corsage exchange is a formative moment, to be held safe, sound and treasured. Rendered for the neck, not the wrist; from patent leather, not real petals, this floral silk choker from SAINT LAURENT is all grown up — and made to last beyond a single evening. Take this piece for a spin in something fantastic; something you’d want to have worn to prom all those years ago.

Price
Approx. THB 15,882

The pendant on this AZ Factory necklace is something of a Rorschach test. Is it a nondescript flower? A secret love letter ripped out and crumbled into a sad, indiscernible wad? A dedication to ‘art’ and ‘sculpture’ and arbitrary crevices? Make for art school lectures in a full blacked-out ensemble so this piece’s grosgrain blends in and disappears. Now, on show: A single gold-toned bauble, suspended in frame.

Price
Approx. THB 19,443

Those dainty, blink-and-you’ll-miss-it chain necklaces? The ones made for layering? This Bottega Veneta variant is defiantly not itThis is not a chain necklace that guest stars; rather, it’s the prima donna of the company. Lead actor. The star of the show. Enchained in chunky, oversized links, this gold-plated beauty is a direct reflection of BV’s current house code, with similar links made to accompany the brand’s series of bags and leather goods.

Price
Approx. THB 131,233

Ornate is the word that comes to mind with this necklace from Gucci’s ‘Epilogue’ collection, with its graphic design bared at the yoke like a hand-cut snowflake. Or an incredibly intricate candelabra. Or a tea service currently holding court behind glass at a museum. There is a staggering amount of detail etched through this piece, which means the best way forward is to pair it with something simple. A black tank top. A white T-shirt.

Price
Approx. THB 49,355

Paco Rabanne’s predilection for metallics is firmly entrenched within the brand DNA, with pailettes and chainmail both recurring motifs amidst the brand’s half-a-century-plus tenure. It should come as no surprise, then, that this chain necklace is rendered alternately in silver-tone metal, crystals and extra-large linked chains meant to make a big, big statement.

Price
Approx. THB 16,072

Strung along with charms you might scavenge from a wander along the beachfront, Versace’s Trésor de la Mer choker is stippled with crystals in every colour under the sun — or, under the sea; after all, the oceanic motifs are a reference to Gianni’s iconic collection of the same name from Spring 1992. If you’re lucky enough to find yourself with toes tucked snug in warm, sun-heated sand this summer, we’re expecting this piece to make a grand entrance alongside a pretty maillot and a heavy glass of white.

Bulgari’s B.Zero1 Rock Collection is Avant-garde Meets Classic Roman https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/style/jewellery/bulgaris-b-zero1-rock-collection-is-avant-garde-meets-classic-roman/ Wed, 21 Jul 2021 06:21:00 +0000 https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/?p=1797410

The B.Zero1 Rock jewellery collection is a new, unapologetic interpretation of Bulgari’s original B.Zero1 ring that is unlike any other piece under the Roman jeweller’s repertoire.

bulgari's b.zero1 rock ring

When it was first launched back in 1999, the unconventional industrial design inspired by the Colosseum and cylindrical shapes gave birth to a unique B.zero1 ring that moves away from Bulgari’s traditional designs. With the beginning of a new decade, the B.zero1 is revisited and brought into a new light, making its appearance in six different variations under Bulgari’s B.zero1 Rock collection.

The Crown Jewel of the B.zero1

Needless to say, the star piece of the collection is no other than the 18k white gold necklace with 7.20 carats jewel—making it the most precious B.Zero1 jewel to date. The artistry of the craftsmanship is reflected through the chain motif and proportions, which gives the nod to the iconic ring’s edges and rounded silhouette. Each element is a measuring unit for the B.Zero1, an approach inspired by Le Corbusier, one of the world’s most famous architects known for his designs and using the human body metrics as units of measurements.

bulgari's b.zero1 rock

Versatile Boldness

The gold chain necklace in the collection comprises individual modules composed of three handsets offering different styling options to be worn with and without the pendant. For those looking for a bolder statement piece, the 18k rose gold necklace with a pendant featuring black ceramic highlights or the diamond-studded 18k yellow gold iteration will not fail to impress. Naturally, the B.Zero1 collection would not be complete without its iconic rings, and 18k rose gold bangle with black ceramic highlights.

Aside from the B.Zero1 Rock collection, Bulgari’s Magnifica, which was released earlier in June 2021, is also notable for its bold and elegant design.

Why everybody needs a pair of AirPod earrings to spice up their Zoom calls https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/style/jewellery/everybody-needs-airpod-earrings-spice-up-zoom-calls/ Tue, 20 Jul 2021 14:45:41 +0000 https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/?p=1797167 airpod earrings misho

Before we begin: we assume you already own a snazzy AirPods case. This is not a story about snazzy AirPods cases or chains. This is a story about AirPod earrings, which could possibly be the most beautiful and millennial marriage between jewellery and technology.

As Bangkok falls into yet another lockdown and even more strict restrictions, working from home is starting to feel less like a cutesy marvel and more like a monotonous movie with no end. Yes, we’ve tried different backgrounds and filters on our video calls. Yes, we’ve flashed everybody because we forgot to wear pants. Yes, we know when to unmute and mute ourselves so nobody knows we’re actually compulsive snackers.

Working from home — and we can’t believe we’re already saying this — is starting to get really old.

Beyond investing in new home office wallpaper and ordering pet-friendly plants on Instagram, imagine our surprise, then, when we spotted AirPod earrings on a night of fashion stalking online.

Delivering both fashion and function, AirPod earrings are a quiet rising trend for those who want to personalise their AirPods but also keep them neatly tucked in place. We first saw them in European style vlogs, and we have a feeling they could soon translate to the local scene. Even if only to spice up our regular Zoom calls.

A hop and skip away from regular ear cuffs, AirPod or earphone earrings are designed to help your headphones sit in place, safely securing them with a regular earring fastener (a butterfly, some call it a butterfly). It’s a clever, almost sneaky accessory, which happens to facilitate a lot of our human connections at this time — even if those connections are largely with our boss.

Here, we’ve put together a list of online stores where you can purchase these little wonders. Interestingly, Louis Vuitton already makes a luxuriously dangling pair, and we have a feeling other brands could soon follow suit. We couldn’t quite find a local Thai brand that makes them just yet, but maybe we’ll pitch it on our next con call. What do you think?

Misho’s Pebble Pods are the ones that really got things going, after being featured by numerous fashion publications. We’re obsessed with how this Indian brand manages such an elegant balance between chunky boho chic and sculpture. The 22k gold-plated bronze earrings happen to look good with or without AirPods tucked into them, and safely hold, support, and catch your earphones should they attempt to slip away, too.

Price: Approx. THB 3,911

For those who would like to go down a more flashy and flamboyant route, check out these Louis Vuitton Nanogram Earphone Earrings. Featuring the iconic Louis Vuitton monogram, we love that this accessory could almost replace your regular earrings. Probably well-suited for an evening Zoom date?

Price: THB 11,200

A little bit more edgy, Mara Paris makes this Pod Cuff out of 925 sterling silver and features a chain and rubber grip inside the holding rings for extra support. We like how contemporary this accessory looks, and that it can be worn with or without accompanying AirPods. We wonder what our ancestors would have thought.

Price: Approx. THB 9,227

If you want to shop the local online market, Shopee does have a few AirPod earring options, albeit a little more casual in the quality department. This number features a cuff as well, and a rubber holder for your AirPods. It’s probably not as secure as the other options on our list, but is also the easiest to wear if you don’t have your ears pierced.

Price: THB 28/piece

We cruised all the way to Etsy to find these AirPod earrings, and we kind of like that they’re handmade by a small business. Made using 925 sterling silver, these rose gold plated earrings are a casual and contemporary way to sport earphone earrings. Easy to match with many outfits, it’s a great entry-earring for those beginning to dabble in the trend.

Price: THB 707

Another item we found on Shopee, these Anti-Drop Ear Clips bring something to the table for those who like pearls. Whilst they’re not of the highest quality, they’re a fun way to experiment with AirPod earrings, and offer more versatility compared to others on the market. Again, you don’t need pierced ears to sport these, though you’ll definitely look like you’re wearing real earrings. All about that deception.

Price: THB 270

We end our list with another Etsy find. Made from 925 sterling silver, this contemporary design has something very edgy about it, and yet still appears minimalist and subtle. An elevation of the classic hoop, the industrial-inspired design is a fun one to flaunt dressed down for casual calls, and with a red lip and sleek hair for serious calls.

Price: THB 547

7 super cute Thai jewellery and accessories stores on Instagram https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/style/jewellery/shop-thai-accessories-jewellery-stores-on-instagram/ Mon, 12 Jul 2021 05:53:30 +0000 https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/?p=1796231

During the pandemic, one of our favourite activities is shopping online — especially on Instagram. Here are some of the cutest Thai jewellery and accessories brands on Instagram to check out.

With more people staying home all during the semi-lockdown, many are looking into jewellery-making as a hobby and selling their creations online. No matter whether you prefer bigger stones or simpler designers, there are plenty of Thai accessories to shop on Instagram. It also allows you to shop local and support smaller businesses, which can be crucial at this time. Here are some of the Thai jewellery and accessories stores on Instagram on our radar.

[Featured Image Credit: @sevendays.a.week/Instagram; Hero Image Credit: Taylor Beach/Unsplash]

Perfect for the summer, Sundaisy utilise a ’90s classic in their jewellery: Puka shells. They have Puka shell necklaces that could match any outfit, and if you don’t like necklaces, they also have anklets. You will need to check out their store before you hang out under the sun. They also have other summer accessories like beach knit head covers, too.

[Image Credit: Sundaisy Stuido via Instagram]

This custom-made jewellery store offers different beaded accessories, from necklaces to anklets and everything thing in between. You can customise your necklaces with any word you want. You can also pick and choose the colours that you like. Too lazy to customise? You can also choose from the existing shop. These handmade accessories should be on your to-buy list, not only for yourself but for all your friends.

Stones like Rose Quartz and Amethyst are not only good as jewellery, but people also believe that they have additional powers. Aroon Factory makes use of these stones, featured in different sizes. Available as bracelets, necklaces, and rings, their chains are 92.5% silver, too.

Minimalistic designs are all the rage. Making use of pastel colours and simple prints, Mellar makes a variety of earrings and hair clips. Earrings are some of the most underrated pieces of jewellery, but instead of hiding these behind your hair, you could definitely show them off with these pieces.

In this pandemic, no matter what accessory you have on, you will always need a face mask. And why don’t we make masks more interesting? This Thai accessories brand does just that. They make beaded mask straps in various colours and styles, and can be easily matched to your outfit of the day.

[Image Credit: Bring the beads via Instagram]

Elegance should always be a factor to consider when looking at accessories, and Seven Days a Week brings exactly that. The store mixes the classics with the contemporary. They use a lot of gold and pearl, as well as beads to accentuate either of these two colours. With many new designs to choose from constantly, they’re a fun account to follow.

[Image Credit: Seven Day a Week via Instagram]

Wanting to represent the feeling of waking up on Sunday Morning, this brand uses a playful design in their pieces. They were established earlier this year and offer necklaces, anklets, earrings, and even chain belts. Combining serious chains with joyful accents like colourful gummy bears is a fun and unexpected way to add a twist to your jewellery.

Lookbook: why every man needs to wear a pearl necklace once in a while https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/style/jewellery/lookbook-why-every-man-needs-to-wear-a-pearl-necklace-once-in-a-while/ Wed, 09 Jun 2021 11:10:49 +0000 https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/?p=1793051

1

Pearls between links

Starting our list strong, if pearl necklaces are good enough for band members of BTS, they’re good enough for us. A great entryway for men looking to wear pearl necklaces, why not opt for the kind that features just a few pearls between sterling silver (or on Kim Taehyung, in gold)?

[Image Credit from left: @bts.bighitofficial/Instagram; Mr Porter]

2

Classic around the neck

If BTS isn’t your style inspiration, maybe Pharrell Williams is. Long an icon for men seeking jewellery inspo, he wears a classic string of pearls close around the neck. Maison Margiela makes a great similar piece, which is extremely versatile and suited to most occasions.

[Image Credit from left: Ssense; @pharrell/Instagram]

3

Pearls with a pop of colour

How handsome is Shawn Mendes here? Proving that pearls can very well go with a suit, we love his take on the pearl necklace featuring a complementary pop of colour. Peyote Bird goes all the way with colour pops, featuring a mix of red coral alongside freshwater pearl beads in their necklace.

[Image Credit from left: @shawnmendes/Instagram; Mr Porter]

4

Delicate days

For days when you’re feeling more delicate, go for pastel hues. We love this Nialaya bead choker featuring pink opals and White Sea pearls. Some days you don’t want huge, chunky pearls in your face, and this piece is perfect for that mood.

[Image Credit from left: FarFetch; @koendanai/Instagram]

5

Half and half

There’s something very powerful about this combination necklace by Dsquared, and we kind of love it. A great way to add a strong accent to your everyday highstreet look, it’s certainly a must-have for every urbanite who loves that middle ground between serious and playful.

6

Pearls with charms

Can you believe that pearl necklaces for men have become so trendy that even pearl master Mikimoto jumped on this train? Collaborating with Commes des Garçons, they unveiled a series of very cool necklaces, such as the one pictured here. Justin Bieber wears a different number, but with similar ‘JB’ charms nonetheless.

7

A thin string of pearls

If you’re just starting out on your man journey to pearl necklaces, perhaps a thin string of pearls is a sweet spot to start. Double it up as a choker or wear it long and loose: anything goes.

Blackpink’s Rosé is the newest ambassador for Tiffany & Co. https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/style/jewellery/blackpink-rose-tiffany-co/ Thu, 22 Apr 2021 03:59:32 +0000 https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/?p=1788969 rosé tiffany & co

Blackpink’s Rosé has been crowned the latest Tiffany & Co. global ambassador.

It looks like the Blackpink girls are well on their way to permanently cementing their status as fashion icons. We had Lisa fronting Celine and even being a judge for the prestigious ANDAM fashion prize in 2021. Then, there’s Jennie, a style icon who became Chanel’s fashion ambassador last year — and who could forget her collaboration with Gentle Monster too?

Then, we had Jisoo who was Dior’s newest ambassador, while Rosé became Saint Laurent’s Korean ambassador. Now, Rosé has another notch to add to her belt: the new global ambassador for Tiffany & Co. Her debut as the jewellery brand’s latest face will see her fronting the Tiffany HardWear digital campaign.

(All images: Tiffany & Co.)

“I’ve always loved wearing Tiffany jewellery. To be part of an iconic brand that has been part of my life for a long time makes it that much more special to me. I am very honoured and excited to be a part of the HardWear campaign and I can’t wait for everyone to see it.”

Rosé

For those unfamiliar, the Tiffany HardWear collection is inspired by the edginess of New York. Its core design is based on a 1971 bracelet from the Tiffany archive and champions gauge links and industrial shapes, hence its name. In the campaign, you’ll see Rosé wearing the graphic 18k yellow and rose gold links with pavé diamonds.

Engagement rings are deeply personal to every bride. It isn’t just the symbol of your love but also a reflection of your style. Like a wedding band, it will stick with you for life, so choose carefully. Once you’ve decided on the stone, think about the size. A grading scale, like GIA’s, may help you decide how best to pick your gemstone or the sparkliest one. But don’t let this be the most important deciding factor. The setting is just as crucial as the stone. For fashion-forward brides, there’s also the question of trend versus tradition.

Modern designs

The thrill of owning a coveted ring of the moment sure is exciting, but think long-term. On one hand, you’d want your ring to appeal to you in decades to come, yet be a reminder of your life in that era. You may look to trends as the key to finding your one-of-a-kind design. Most will never go out of style, like the vintage-style rings above, but simply see surges of popularity from time to time.  Floral motifs, for instance, like the ones below by Harry Winston, Van Cleef and Arpels, and Cartier, are evergreen and favoured by brides with an affinity for nature, or feminine designs.

Some trends are more pervasive than others, like the three-stone ring. Although it’s an enduring, timeless design, we have Meghan Markle to thank for its explosive popularity. The centre stone of her ring is a large cushion from Botswana, where she and Prince Harry had vacationed, flanked by two smaller diamonds from the late Princess Diana‘s collection. Her original ring was set in yellow gold before it was later changed into a thin micro pavé. The idea behind it is inherently romantic, as the three stones represent a couple’s past, present, and future together.

Classic designs

A timeless design in a classic cut will never go out of style and will make a wonderful heirloom for your lineage. Typically, classic rings feature a simple band with a beautiful stone. Think sparkly solitaires, plain bands or paved diamonds, as well as stones in a round or princess cut.

Wedding Bands

While engagement rings may eclipse most of your (and everybody else’s) attention, a wedding band is the ultimate emblem of your commitment. Typically simpler in style, the top consideration for the ring should be the metal of the band as it will determine its durability for the many years to come. Look for a ring that will easily fit into your lifestyle and wardrobe choices. If you’re planning on stacking it with your engagement ring, picture how they’ll look together. Matching metals, or similar widths, will result in a seamless look.

Wedding Tiaras

wedding jewellery

Of all bridal jewellery, the tiara is the most divisive. Some believe it’s outdated, and should only be reserved for royalty. Others deem it the perfect statement for your wedding day — when else could you get away with wearing one? Interestingly, tiaras are now particularly popular in Asia and the Middle East. Perhaps we have the royal weddings of Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton to thank for that

How to choose the right tiara

Choosing the right tiara is the key to keeping your whole bridal outfit timeless, and not cringeworthy. The first thing to consider is the formality of your reception as a bejewelled tiara would look out of place in a casual restaurant. Next, bear in mind the style and silhouette of your dress along with your personality. Lastly, be conscious of your facial proportions. Pick a tiara that frames your face. A tiara that adds height elongates a round face; angular faces may wish to opt for softer contours. The choices out there are plenty and can range from head-turning crowns to subtle flora headbands.

Earrings

How to match earrings to wedding dresses, you ask? Three words: Less is more. Think about your neckline, as well as your hairstyle for the day. An up-do with a strapless gown is the perfect opportunity for eye-catching statement danglers, or chandeliers. Conversely, a bride with a simple and minimal style will love classic stud earrings. If your dress has a high neckline and has plenty of details close to the face, avoid overly detailed or large earrings as you don’t want it to compete with the overall look. To really make your dress pop, the finish of the jewellery matters too. Platinum or white goes best with white or gold with a creamy ivory or champagne.

Necklaces

wedding jewellery
The Boucheron Lierres de Paris necklace is in white gold and set with 1,049 round diamonds totalling 9.71 carats.

Like earrings, wearing a necklace on your wedding day is all about balance, depending on the neckline of your dress. A long pendant necklace will accentuate a V-neckline; a shorter necklace, like a choker, may be more suitable on a strapless gown. A halter neckline may not leave much room for a necklace. Sweetheart ones, on the other hand, pair beautifully with medium pendant or drop necklaces. Also pay attention to the fabric and embellishments of your dress — the fussier the dress, the simpler the accessories.

Is it Mellerio or Boucheron? We answer your ‘Bling Empire’ jewellery questions https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/style/jewellery/bling-empire-netflix-jewellery/ Mon, 25 Jan 2021 08:15:38 +0000 https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/?p=1783516

It’s in the name and should thereby come as no surprise: Bling Empire features a lot of bling.

The Netflix reality TV series follows the lives of moneyed Asians in Los Angeles, after all. Whether doing sexy yoga in their mansions, getting mouth massages (it’s a rich people thing, apparently) or exchanging thinly-veiled insults over cocktails, the show’s cast members are often decked out in diamonds.

Jewellery, just like designer clothes and Lamborghinis, is just one of their many playthings. They treat each other to friendship rings from Boucheron, or show their love with promise rings that could easily pay off an entire wedding.

That sort of opulence is not something most of us would be familiar with. To quote Christine Chiu, the millionaire socialite who is one of Bling Empire‘s glittering stars, “In the world of high jewellery, not everyone is invited.” Of course, we’re not entirely clueless. We wouldn’t go so far as to misspell “Hermes” like Kevin Kreider, the one Asian in Bling Empire who isn’t crazy rich. But the show may still have left you scratching your head at some point. What is JAR? Is Boucheron really France’s oldest jewellery house? And what’s the big deal with that Louis Vuitton necklace?

Consider yourselves confuddled no more. Below, we answer all the burning, jewellery-related questions that may have emerged from Bling Empire binge.

What jewellery brands are featured on Bling Empire?

Given that each cast member has different tastes when it comes to their jewels, the short answer is: quite a few. Anna Shay, the Russian-Japanese billionaire who is something of the show’s matriarch, is fond of Boucheron. One of her best friends is a client executive for the fine jewellery brand; when she shops for new pieces in Paris, she has the boutique closed just for her.

Cherie Chan is a big fan of Van Cleef & Arpels’ floral creations, as you would expect of the graceful denim empire heiress. The aforementioned Christine, who is as passionate about high jewellery as she is about haute couture, favours Louis Vuitton and Piaget. (The latter even sponsored her extravagant Chinese New Year party on Rodeo Drive.) Even Kane Lim, the son of a Singaporean millionaire, has a thing for diamonds — especially if they’re from Cartier.

Where are all the tiaras from?

You may have noticed quite a few crowns adorning the cast members during their interview bits. Even for the super rich, those bejewelled tiaras seemed a little over-the-top. But then when you consider that extravagance is at the very heart of Dolce & Gabbana, the haute couture fashion brand behind those regal accessories, it makes sense. What doesn’t make sense is why Christine and Cherie, both Chinese, seem so devoted to the Italian brand; its designers have made several racist moves that led to their effective “cancellation” in China. But maybe money and morals don’t always go together.

How much was that Louis Vuitton high jewellery necklace?

The necklace in question. (Photo credit: Netflix)

Bling Empire opens with an episode titled “Necklacegate”. Christine, in a primal struggle for dominance, provokes Anna by wearing a necklace that she also owns. This plants the seed for all the silly power moves and brilliant lines that the two sprout throughout the rest of the series.

The accessory at the centre of all that drama was a Louis Vuitton necklace made of white gold, pink sapphires and diamonds. It’s from the French brand’s 2010 Les Eclatantes haute joaillerie collection. (Fun fact: Chinese actress Gong Li wore a ring from the same collection at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival.) That means that Christine had to go out of her way to purchase hers from an auction or an online reseller, probably at around its original price of US$152,000 (THB 4,558,480). In other words, she couldn’t be any pettier.

Is Anna really “a JAR type of person”?

Christine, who has a penchant for name-dropping, casually mentions to Anna that she looked like a fan of JAR. The statement left even Anna, a seasoned patron of the high jewellers on Place Vendôme, at a loss for words. That’s pretty surprising, given that Anna has much in common with Joel Arthur Rosenthal, the elusive jeweller behind the label.

The American designer very rarely gives interviews, and he never advertises his brand. You won’t even find a display outside his boutique on Place Vendôme, where he has worked since 1978. Instead, Rosenthal lets his artistic jewels do the talking. He creates only around 70 designs a year, and he’s very selective of his clients.

JAR butterfly brooch (Photo credit: Christie’s)

The only other way to purchase a JAR jewel is through an auction, where they can easily fetch up to millions. That’s because each one is a feat of craftsmanship; the gems on a JAR jewel are usually set with intricate pavé arrangements inspired by fine needlepoint stitches. The stones’ colours are brought out even more against blackened metal, which Rosenthal uses instead of gold or silver. The final results tend to resemble a miniscule sculpture of natural forms, like butterflies or flowers.

Such details would definitely excite Anna, who has been described as “a child in a candy shop” whenever she shops for jewellery. Too bad she would never give Christine the satisfaction of being right.

Who is older: Mellerio or Boucheron?

A 1921 Boucheron diadem that belonged the the Queen Mother Elizabeth. (Photo credit: Boucheron)

When Anna and Christine try to one-up each other in terms of their jewellery knowledge, they come to a disagreement. Christine says that Mellerio is the “the oldest high jewelry house alive in Paris”, while Anna insists it’s Boucheron. Who’s right?

It turns out that Boucheron, founded by Frédéric Boucheron in 1858, is the oldest jewellery Maison in Place Vendôme. And the brand did create royal jewels after all, especially for the likes of the Russian Imperial Family and the Queen Mother Elizabeth.

But the title of oldest jewellery atelier in Paris does, in fact, goes to Mellerio. It was established in 1613, over two centuries earlier than Boucheron, by Mellerio dits Meller. Its first boutique was on the Rue de la Paix, not too far from Place Vendôme. Its clientele was just as powerful as Boucheron’s, including the Medici family, Queen Marie Antoinette and Empress Josephine.

December birthstone: 5 ways to wear turquoise this month https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/style/jewellery/december-birthstone-5-ways-to-wear-turquoise-this-month/ Fri, 04 Dec 2020 13:29:45 +0000 https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/?p=1780130

Calling all December babies: it’s officially turquoise season.

It’s no surprise that the month of celebration lists not one but three treasures for the December birthstone. The most fabulous way to embrace this winterfest is to flaunt your birthstone and end the year with a bang. Although December is blessed with three brilliant stones that have their own unique take on blue, (tanzanite, zircon, and turquoise), our heart is set on the gorgeous stone that has been cherished for millennia — turquoise.

Recognised as a lucky stone in many cultures where it’s believed to possess good fortune and health, turquoise has played an important role in human history and continues to be one of the most cherished stones for jewellery. According to American Gem Society, it has been revered by everyone from the ancient Egyptians and Persians to the Aztecs and Native Americans, and the impressive stone has long been used in both body adornments as well as weapons and ceremonial items.

Between the blue to green hues and semi-translucent to opaque hue, turquoise has an unmatched beauty that makes it just so stunning. One of the oldest on Earth to one of the first mined and used in jewellery, this timeless beauty is highly-esteemed for its striking namesake colour, and we see why.

Here, we’ve put together a list of five different ways you can sport the December birthstone this month. From elegant statement earrings to subtly chic pieces, here are the jewellery pieces you can gift your loved ones this merry season.

5 engagement ring trends to look out for in 2021 https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/style/jewellery/5-engagement-ring-trends-2021/ Thu, 12 Nov 2020 07:34:29 +0000 https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/?p=1777690

Beginning to daydream about a fresh start in 2021? Be ready — maybe you’ll get married.

This year has been a rollercoaster ride for all of us and definitely a year that has meant make or break for many relationships. Nevertheless, 2020 has really taught us to appreciate and cherish the simple things in life and to give priority to our loved ones.

If wedding bells may come ringing for you next year, there’s no time like the present to see what’s trending for engagement rings. While many classic styles are making a comeback this new year, there are also some unique coloured-stones stealing the spotlight. We’ve rounded up a few engagement ring trends you can expect in 2021. This way you’ll definitely be prepared if you want to put a ring on it.

[Featured Image Credit: Tyler Nix/Unsplash; Hero Image Credit: Alexandra Gornago/Unsplash]

There’s nothing like the classic that boasts sophistication and grace in a timeless style. But 2021 might bring a spin to it. When we say “floating” we mean the diamond is rather floating instead of being held in place by prongs or a bezel. It’s contemporary yet so classy at the same time.

Opt for a classic solitaire that plays with geometry and negative space, and captures the beauty in this timeless form. This Mid-century Kahn Pear-shaped ring from Shahla Karimi’s collection comes with a removable cigar-band jacket. So while you boast your stunning ring at the aisle, you can switch things up also by removing the cigar band for a different look. Very versatile.

This stunning diva is here to shine. Halo rings are cut in ways so they can catch the light at all times for a truly breathtaking sparkle. The traditional pave halo is making a comeback but with a new flair. From octagon-shaped to hexagonal, the timelessness of the design makes it an ideal engagement ring for every bride-to-be.

Blessing us with a forever favourite, the V by Laura Vann’s Asscher Art Deco halo diamond ring is dipped in yellow gold and is a unique and striking statement in itself. It’s not your typical halo, but the detailing and baguette-cut diamonds assure an everlasting antique style that is hard to find. Featuring more than 0.55 carats of sparkling diamond, the ring combines a feeling of vintage and freshness to it.

[Image credit: V by Laura Vann]

Brides are currently having a colourful moment and we are loving it. Diamonds are still a girl’s best friend, but it’s a different kind nowadays and it’s indeed an edgy look. The richly opaque and painterly spins make it a unique one to boast as an engagement ring.

We know that emerald and blue sapphire rings are particularly popular when it comes to making a bold statement. It allows the bride to express her creative side to the world on the most important day of her life. Irene Neuwirth, who travels the world in search of beautiful colour-rich stones, has designed this ‘Tennis’ ring that graciously flaunts a brilliant emerald framed by 0.48 carats of illuminating diamonds. Dressed in yellow and white gold, this one is truly a one-of-a-kind piece that makes it an ideal engagement ring.

Just as up-cycled wedding dresses are set to be a huge trend next year, so are vintage engagement rings. For that antique feel and vintage design, opt for Art Deco design motifs that have become a favourite amongst brides. Flaunting a three-stone ring is also proving to be more fashionable in recent times. Why not combine the two? This 18k yellow and white gold engagement ring with central Asscher cut diamond flanked by two matching shield cut diamonds, will add glamour to your hands. It’s incredibly romantic and comes with a timeless design.

This year made us rethink a lot of things and also gave us time to become more creative with an ethical approach towards many things, including jewellery. Many couples are now opting for sustainable jewellery by remodelling their existing pieces to create something together. Some are hoping to receive blessings from their ancestors via their inherited family motifs.

Mounted from inherited stones, this 18ct white gold engagement ring was made via a special bespoke commission for a romantic proposal in Berkeley Square, London. Flaunting round brilliant cut diamond and a cushion-shaped halo, this ring does not only look gorgeous but also brings a sentimental value making it more meaningful.

October birthstone: 5 ways to wear opal this month https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/style/jewellery/october-birthstone-5-ways-to-wear-opal-this-month/ Fri, 09 Oct 2020 04:20:48 +0000 https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/?p=1775639

Calling all October babies: it’s officially opal season.

For those born in October, you’ve been blessed with two gorgeous birthstones – opal and tourmaline – that come in a myriad of beautiful shades to flaunt this season. By no means, opal is one exceptional birthstone that steals the spotlight with its beauty and is known to be lucky for those born this autumnal month.

The dramatic play of colour and galaxy-like hue make opal one intoxicating gemstone. The stone is a symbol of purity, hope, and truth, and is believed to bless the wearer with good fortune.

According to the American Gems Society, the term “opal” originates from the Greek word opallios, which means “to see a change in colour.” Whilst the flashy gemstones are known as “precious opals,” those without the play of colour are “common opals.” Different from other stones, opals obtain their hue from an intrinsic microstructure that diffracts white light to display various colours of the rainbow spectrum.

Whilst it’s home belongs in Australia where 95% of the world’s supply comes from, it is also mined in parts of the U.S., Mexico, Brazil, and Ethiopia.

A first look at Kate Moss’ first jewellery collection with Messika https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/style/jewellery/first-look-kate-moss-jewellery-collection-messika/ Sat, 26 Sep 2020 08:45:07 +0000 https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/?p=1774528 (Photo credit: Nikolai von Bismarck, courtesy of Messika)

We didn’t expect a jewellery line from Kate Moss, given that the British supermodel’s style has always been a little bit more minimalistic, but Kate has always been one to surprise us.

It was made in collaboration with Messika, the French haute joaillerie house whose casual, contemporary diamond designs have won over the likes of Gigi HadidBeyoncé and Rihanna.

But it was Moss, as well as Marilyn Monroe, that founder Valérie Messika first pegged as her muses when she launched her jewellery label in 2005. Through her new collaboration with the fashion icon, things have come full circle.

The “Messika by Kate Moss” line is inspired by pieces in Moss’ own jewellery box. The model’s taste for jewels is actually pretty eclectic, encompassing designs from different eras. In the mix are elaborate Victorian baubles, geometric Art Deco styles and even Indian jewellery, collected from Moss’ travels to India as a teenager.

Their influences shine through in the new, 70-piece high jewellery collection, which include sets of earrings, necklaces, rings, bracelets, headpieces and nose jewellery. Some highlights include a tasseled sautoir, sunburst hoops, a three-finger ring, and dangling earrings set with pear-shaped malachite (crystals, after all, are having a moment in jewellery).

These are all enhanced with Messika’s careful selection of diamonds, which are of the highest quality and certified by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA). (Messika herself has an intimate understanding of the gems, being the daughter of French diamond dealer André Messika.)

Yet none of that steers the Messika by Kate Moss collection away from the modern ethos at the heart of the jewellery brand. As luxuriously as they are crafted, the designs are meant to be effortlessly worn to everyday affairs, not tucked away preciously in a jewellery box. That design approach is shared with other diamond jewellery designers (such as Hong Kong-based Nicholas Lieou and British designer Monica Vinader), reflecting the tastes of women today.

The entire Messika by Kate Moss collection will launch in November, but until then, you can get your fix of everyday diamonds from these jewellers.

Weekend muse: minimalist statement earrings are a metaphor for 2020 https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/style/jewellery/weekend-muse-minimalist-statement-earrings-2020/ Sun, 20 Sep 2020 07:44:23 +0000 https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/?p=1773957

Have you noticed how more and more women (and some men) seem to have jewellery crawling all up their ears lately?

Close to the lobe, on the cuff, dangling behind, or just dancing along, it seems that in 2020, when it comes to earrings, anything goes.

Long our favourite kind of earring, this has given the statement earring in 2020 a new definition. They’re simultaneously minimalist (think, cuffs, climbers, and crawlers) and bold (think, studded cuffs, odd shapes, and mismatched pairings). They look like they don’t sit entirely right or comfortably, but somehow they make it work. In many ways, they’re a metaphor for how we feel in this wicked-and-wild year.

Embracing that we can’t wear cocktail earrings or large drop earrings like we used to (they get stuck in our designer face mask), the minimalist statement earring makes a real statement for our current times. Below, we’ve listed some of our favourites; let us know what you think.

[Hero Image Credit: Éliou; Featured Image Credit: Anita Ko]

If you read our website regularly, you’ll know that Éliou is one of our absolute favourite brands. Always playful, always cheeky, we couldn’t start our list without them. This ear cuff sits low on the ear, cast from gold-plated metal in a hoop silhouette that is strung with eight freshwater pearls and beads. The kind of accessory that needs to no other to accompany it. You’re dressed. Let’s go.

Price: approx. THB 4974

This one’s a bit more of a tease. Just how 2020 has us tangled in all sorts of emotions, these Sarah & Sebastian ear cuffs are holding onto your dear ears like we are to our dear sanity. That was melodramatic, but you get the gist. And these earrings get that 2020 is a bit of a wacky one. We love the swirling gold design with the illusion of two pearls floating just above your ears. Easy to wear and impressive to show off.

Price: approx. THB 9749

We love a good juxtaposition between something that is minimalist and so bold at the same time. Enter these Nausheen Shah x Monica Sordo earrings. The mismatched pair features a sculptured hammered silhouette from brass, where one is plated in gold and the other is sipped in marine blue paint. A great way to snazz up an evening ensemble.

Price: approx. THB 11,951

There’s ear cuffs and then there’s continuous ear cuffs. For those who can’t bear just wearing one, this CompletedWorks set considers itself ‘wearable art,’ and to be honest, we fully subscribe to it. Easy to slip on, the piece is pretty versatile given that you could wear it up top or further down the lobe, and don’t even have to commit to wearing any other pieces. We find comfort in things that are easy. It’s been a year.

Price: approx. THB 8253

Inspired by the deep blue seas, if you’re craving for a beach vacation, these Begüm Khan earrings should be your go-to. We love the way the gold-plated metal pair clips to the ear, each encrusted with a row of crystals for each tentacle of the starfish. Pair with a neat up-do for a sophisticated and elegant dinner look.

Price: approx. THB 26,939

Jennifer Fisher’s set of three ear cuffs proves that sometimes the most minimal pieces can make the greatest impact. Ideal for wearing solo or stacking with other styles, they’re cast from gold-plated brass in alternating open-ended shapes. Very boho-chic.

Price: approx. THB 6219

Sometimes we wish a safety pin could come to our rescue in real life, and other times we just enjoy the fact that fashion jewellery has evolved so much that we can wear them as earrings. The safety pin earring has been spotted on the likes of Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Kendall Jenner, and in Anita Ko’s version comes cast from polished 18-karat gold with hand-set 0.52 carats of sapphires. Sapphires also happen to be the September birthstone, so there’s no better time to flaunt it.

Price: approx. THB 32,665.

We’re ending our list on a warm note. Logomania in earrings has kind of come and gone, but words are still a bit of a trend. Hand-cast from 18-karat gold, we love these Jennifer Meyer earrings for their beautiful simplicity. Gift them to someone you adore or keep them for yourself, but above all else: stay safe out there. Love you.

The allure of the oddly-shaped pearl and the pieces we absolutely adore https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/style/jewellery/shop-oddly-shaped-pearl-pieces-absolutely-adore/ Mon, 07 Sep 2020 05:58:19 +0000 https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/?p=1772795

It isn’t often that we’re into something that classifies as ‘oddly-shaped’, but here we are.

Whilst we’ve long been subscribers of the Breakfast at Tiffany’s FC, and sport a string of pearls at any given opportunity, there’s no denying that we’ve also seen the silent rise of another style of pearl. The oddly-shaped pearl. The imperfect pearl. You know, the raw, organic, kind of pearl.

It’s difficult to find the right words, but we think you get the gist. They’ve been popping up everywhere, as a beautiful and beautifully natural alternative to the classic, immaculately round pearl. They often shimmer in a lot more hues with pinks and purples galore, and they are often the lesser-formal, more everyday-friendly kind of accessory. They also happen to make for the ideal weekend trip attire.

To get you inspired (and to get you to join our Oddly-Shaped FC), here, we’ve rounded up some of our favourite raw and organic pearl pieces of the minute. Bring on these little artworks of the sea.

[Hero and Featured Image Credit: Pacharee]

There’s something about ‘imperfect’ pearls that feels very abstract — and most fabulously so. Inspired by the “colours and textures of Iceland, in all their soft, shimmery, icy beauty,” these Melissa Joy Manning earrings (approx. THB 6825) exemplify this to perfection. They’re handcrafted from recycle 14-karat gold, with a set of lustrous Keshi pearls to preserve their very unique shape.

Gold and pearls are and undying combination, as evident in this Anissa Kermiche necklace (approx. THB 7713). The ‘Two Faced Shelley’ piece features a baroque shape, made from gold-plated sterling silver. It rests high on the collarbone (but is not quite a choker), for a modern and chic way to flaunt any neckline.

Blue (or turquoise) is the warmest colour. We love Éliou for all their playful designs, and this Gela necklace (approx. THB 4881) does not disappoint. Perfect for your next beach trip, it combines vibrant turquoise beads with sculptural baroque pearls. Perfect on its own or stacked with other necklaces.

Continuing on with the beach theme, we really fell for these adorable Begüm Khan clip earrings (approx. THB 26,975). An homage to the founder’s home town of Istanbul, the ‘Tortuga Florence’ pair is inspired by the tortoises that roamed the sultan’s garden during the Ottoman Empire. Four strands of freshwater pearls dangle from each of the tortoises in this pair, gently swaying against the jawline with every move.

September birthstone: 6 ways to wear sapphire this month https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/style/jewellery/september-birthstone-6-ways-to-wear-sapphire-this-month/ Wed, 02 Sep 2020 07:45:52 +0000 https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/?p=1772280 Sapphire, september birthstone, sapphire rings, sapphire jewellery, sapphire jewelry, harry winston, pomellato, Tiffany ring, graff, lifestyle asia birthstone

Calling all September babies: it’s officially sapphire season.

For all those born in September, you are blessed with the most cherished and royal birthstone: sapphire. According to the American Gem Society, sapphire has traditionally been a symbol for loyalty, sincerity, and faithfulness. This blue beauty has long been associated with romance and pure love, too.

Whilst sapphire usually refers to the blue variety of corundum, the birthstone is also blessed to come in a rainbow of other beautiful hues. Interestingly, based on the beliefs of Medieval Europeans, the September birthstone has been reputed to have healing powers and even thought to be an antidote to poison.

Whilst the three historically important sources for sapphire remain to be Kashmir, Myanmar, and Sri Lanka, it is also found in Thailand, Australian, Cambodia, Madagascar, and the United States.

It is indeed a symbol of royal love because when Britain’s Prince Charles gave Lady Diana a 12-carat blue sapphire engagement ring, later, Prince William gave it to Kate Middleton when he proposed, passing on this legacy of auspiciousness. This timeless beauty makes the perfect choice of jewellery for every occasion and an idyllic engagement ring.

Boasting the magnificent stone this month — whether you are a sapphire lover or a September baby — here are six ways you can sport this mesmerising stone in the most gorgeous way.

August birthstone: 6 ways to wear peridot this month https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/style/jewellery/august-birthstone-6-ways-to-wear-peridot-this-month/ Thu, 13 Aug 2020 04:19:12 +0000 https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/?p=1770803

Calling all August babies: it’s officially peridot season.

For those born in the late summer month, you are blessed with three gemstones — sardonyx, spinel, and peridot — to shimmer through the season. Whilst we are in awe of all the beautiful stones, we’re splurging into August’s primary gemstone: peridot.

According to the American Gems Society, the brilliant lime green stone has long been associated with prosperity and good fortune. Whilst some believe that the word “peridot” derived from the Arabic faridat which means “gem”, it is also argued that it’s been rooted in the Greek word peridona, which means “giving plenty.”

Interestingly, this rare gem was once symbolised as the tears of Pele in Hawaii. It is believed to be a unique stone from the common mineral olivine which forms deep inside the Earth’s mantle and is brought to the surface by volcanoes.

Peridots are one of the few gemstones that appear in one colour — from shades of yellowish-green to olive to brownish-green — depending on the amount of iron.

Lucky for us, peridot looks beautiful any time of the day because of its sparkling green hue. While the sources of the stone remain China, Myanmar, Pakistan, and Africa, most of the world’ s peridots supply comes from San Carlos Reservation in Arizona.

Celebrating the mesmerising stone for August babies, we’ve rounded up six ways you could rock peridot in style this month. Let’s attract some good fortune while looking gorgeous, shall we?

[Hero Image & Feature Image credit: Facebook/Pomellato]

There’s nothing more adorable than a pendant from Pandora that always manages to add that flair of sophistication to your look. Whilst Pandora has a great collection of birthstone jewellery, we love the pendant in sterling silver that has been mounted with the vivid olive green peridot. Wear it entirely on its own or pair them with matching earrings; either way, it will look gorgeous.

Price: THB 1,650

If you are looking for a dose of sparkle and grace, this stunning pair of droplets is the way to embrace your birthstone this season. Pomellato’s earrings M’ama Non M’ama feature brown diamonds and are dipped in rose gold with peridots. It makes quite a contemporary fashion statement and can be mixed and matched with any accessory. We always need that one beautiful pair of earrings that spruces up our outfit — whether it’s casual or formal.

This stylish yet so classy ring is the perfect way to boast this month’s birthstone. When it comes to choosing a ring, we don’t compromise. The elegant Peridot Trumpet Ring by Theo Fennell has a timeless design that makes it perfect for every occasion. Whether you are celebrating your birthday this month or simply treating yourself, you can always count on a classic peridot ring.

If you have a sparkling personality and want to match up to it, Bulgari’s Allegra Necklace is the most vibrant way to go. This necklace dipped in 18kt gold does not only feature peridot, but also pink tourmaline, amethyst, blue topaz, soya culture pearls, and pave diamonds. The Allegra necklace is also one of the most iconic stylistic trademarks of the luxury brand. It is a celebration of vivaciously playful elegance as a whole. Flaunt it with your formal dresses and you are ready to walk that red carpet.

Price: Approx. THB 387,943.60

The most effortless way to sport the birthstone could be with a delicate and sleek bracelet. Bucherer’s fine jewellery bangle is dipped in 18K rose gold with a peridot stone and round cut diamonds. Consider it a dose of happiness on a gloomy day.

Price: Approx. THB 65,078.81

July birthstone: 6 ways to wear ruby this month https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/style/jewellery/july-birthstone-6-ways-to-wear-ruby-this-month/ Thu, 09 Jul 2020 06:37:16 +0000 https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/?p=1768011

Calling all July babies: it’s officially ruby season.

Blessing all the fortunate July babies, the king of precious gems Ruby is the birthstone this month. The regally royal red is one of the most coveted of gems and undoubtedly a fiery treasure that has been ruling hearts for a long time.

The term “ruby” which derives from rubeus in Latin, is also translated to ratnaraj in ancient Sanskrit meaning “king of precious stones.” Ruby has long been associated with power and energy, and also Medieval Europeans believed that rubies bestowed good health, wealth, and success in love. Is ruby more precious than diamond? According to the American Gems Society, ruby is a tough and durable gemstone that measures 9 on the Mohs scale and gives quite a tough competition to diamond lovers.

Interestingly and luckily, Thailand is home to one of the major sources of rubies, especially with the rich mines found in Chanthaburi. Famous for its deep blood-red colour with purplish hues, Burma’s Mogok Valley has been historically associated and is still famous for some of its most sought-after rubies. The Burmese Rubies are also known as Pigeon’s Blood Rubies that boast a premium over brownish or orange-tinged varieties. Also, ruby deposits are found in our neighbouring countries, Vietnam, India, and parts of the Middle East and even the United States.

To date, we’ve been wowed everywhere from Elizabeth Taylor’s Ruby and Diamond necklace to Victoria Beckham’s engagement ring. There’s no better gift than ruby gemstone jewellery to show someone you love them or to celebrate the 15th or 40th wedding anniversary. While we’ve seen both natural and synthetic rubies in watchmaking and medical instruments, nothing beats the precious feeling of owning a beautiful ruby.

Boasting the gorgeous stone this month — whether you are a ruby lover or a July baby — here are six ways you can sport the ruby and rock the July birthstone in great style.

[Hero and Featured Image credit: Pixabay/Bruceandyqq]

How can we not gaze over this magnificent piece of jewellery? When we think of an ideal engagement ring mounted with ruby and studded with diamonds, we sure do think of Tiffany & Co. Tiffany’s Soleste Ring flaunts a round ruby in 0.50 carat and round brilliant diamonds in total weight 0.36. Having the two most cherished gemstones together makes you feel like the most special girl in the world. Drop a hint to bae and let them know what you’ve been wishing for.

Price: Approx. THB 296, 770

There’s something about flaunting those regal rubies around your collar bone that just elevates you entire look for the day. Graff’s pear shape Cross-Over Necklace speaks elegance and only elegance. This exquisite scintillation is mounted with rubies 12.66 cts and diamonds 26.59 cts. Whether you need a showstopper for your cocktail party or simply want to spruce up your outfit, this necklace will sure give you that lavish red-carpet feel.

Price upon request.

Sometimes you need something more playful than a necklace and more sophisticated than a pair of earrings — so flaunting a brooch keeps you chic while you could jazz up your wardrobe. Pinning that beautiful bee brooch adds that extra sense of treasure (and, rubies and diamonds) to your outfit. Theo Fennell’s Ruby Medium Bee Brooch dipped in 18ct Yellow and White Gold with mounted Ruby 2.16 ct, diamond 1.21 ct, and black diamond 0.08ct, is an ideal way to sparkle and style this season.

Price: THB 303,656

Calling for a celebration in itself, this beauty of wildflowers is what really adds that vibrancy to your mood. Van Cleef & Arpels Folie des Prés bracelet is adorned with round and pear-shaped rubies with a total of 15.6 carats and diamonds a total of 4.5 carats. This gorgeous bracelet makes a perfect gift for your loved ones.

Price: THB 6,750,000

Quite certainly a diva on its own, the ultimate Italian brand brings us the quintessentially feminine design that we can’t resist. This delicate drop of earrings with pear-shaped rubies and round brilliant-cut and pave diamonds is the most opulent way to fulfil your love for rubies. The fan-shaped motifs remind us of the Roman Baths of Caracalla.

Price: Approx. 855,900

The sea’s ephemeral character, Talay, captures the essence of the sea which is beautifully reflected in this piece making it unique from other bangles. The Talay Wave Twist Bangle embodies subtle curves perfect for those with a playful personality. Flaunt this bracelet with your casual tees or office wear — either way it will subtly shine out.

A visit to Piaget’s first-ever virtual boutique https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/style/jewellery/piagets-first-ever-virtual-boutique/ Fri, 26 Jun 2020 01:00:15 +0000 https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/?p=1766834 Piaget, Piaget Virtual Salon, Piaget Virtual Boutique, Jewellery, luxury jewellery brand

This summer, Piaget presents a sparkling first — a virtual boutique.

One thing that we have adapted in this age of social distancing is going virtual in many areas of our lives. Taking this a step further, the Swiss luxury jewellery and watchmaker Piaget wooed us with a digital launch of its first ever virtual boutique. Whilst we are still on social distancing mode, shopping online seems to be a more convenient option right now more than ever, yet it’s nice to see Piaget embrace an actual in-store experience in a digital realm, too.

Religiously following their motto “always do better than necessary,” Piaget’s virtual boutique that will elevate the experience of exploring the Maison Piaget’s store in many dimensions. Brick and mortar stores have always been there, but the friends of the brand can now enjoy visiting the store on the touch of their fingertips and comforts of their sofas. Think hues of textured gold, white, and yellow, along with the iconic Piaget blue that makes it all quite a mesmerising virtual experience in itself. From an alcove clad in brass to a strong sense of palatial elegance, the intricate creations truly reflect the charm and radiance of the Maison.

Piaget has always embraced omnichannel offerings and the spirit of technology. In fact, Piaget went digital in 2000 and has constantly been implanting new touchpoints like partnering with e-shopping platforms, adopting e-commerce, and even a WeChat boutique.

Somewhat a natural progression, then, Piaget’s Virtual Boutique prepares all the instructions on how to navigate through the website effortlessly. As you enter the virtual boutique’s architectural journey, you witness the panoramic view of spaces like the Discovery Area, VIP lounge, Private Alcove, and so much more. Best part? Anyone from any part of the world can access the store now.

From the Possession collection on display to Piaget’s Altiplano and Piaget Polo timepieces, to exclusive creations, you can view each product in detail without any hassle. Click on the product to find out more information such as the pricing and the inspiration behind the piece, and simply add them to your wish list. If you are anything like us, you don’t like to shop alone, so fret not, the boutique allows you to invite your family and friends to transport yourselves on a shopping spree together, too.

What we also love about this luxury brand is the unique personal touch it brings to its customers. Although this is a virtual experience, Piaget ensures to bridge the online experience to offline visits so we will still be able to chat via an automated chat box — so expect to be greeted. You can also make a virtual appointment with a Piaget representative.

“Our virtual Piaget Salon is the opportunity to go beyond and get closer to our customers’ expectations, bringing them a superior shopping experience in the comfort from their homes,” says Petronille de Parseval, Managing Director of Piaget South East Asia and Australia.
