After entering the Chinese market via a shop-in-shop location inside Dover Street Market Beijing, Supreme is now set to launch its first standalone store in China as well as its official WeChat Mini Program on March 23.

After its acquisition by VF Corp for US$2.1 billion in 2020, Supreme has since expanded internationally with new flagship locations in Milan, Berlin, and Seoul. With 6 outposts in Japan (Harajuku, Shibuya, Nagoya, Daikanyamacho, Osaka, Fukuoka), its Shanghai location has been long overdue.
One of the major contributing factors for the delay is Supreme’s legal battle with knock-off brand “Supreme Italia” which blatantly copied the label’s identity and went so far as opening a massive flagship store in Shanghai and announcing an official collaboration with Samsung (which was later canceled). After a long legal battle, Supreme secured its trademark in China in 2020 and the Supreme Italia founders Michele and Marcello Di Pierro were given eight and three years of jail time respectively for fraud. Supreme Italia was forced to close its locations and its holding company, International Brand Firm Ltd., was further fined £7.5 million GBP, a sum that reportedly has yet to be paid.
As with past store Supreme store openings, exclusive box logo hoodies and tees are set to be available. Look for Supreme Shanghai to open on March 23 at 291 Fumin Road, located in the city’s central Xuhui District.
