Singapore is now home to Southeast Asia’s first and only THE ONITSUKA boutique, located in Ion Orchard. Here’s all we know about it.
For the past 75 years, Onitsuka Tiger has definitely grown tremendously to become one of the world’s most beloved fashion brands. The Maison — now helmed by renowned Creative Director Andrea Pompilio — continues to push the boundaries with its designs that fuses both Japanese elements with technical and contemporary elements. Its expansive arsenal now houses everything from the classic MEXICO 66™ footwear to the YELLOW TIGER collection and the OTIGER™ series.
Onitsuka Tiger has a substantial presence in Malaysia, with a myriad of stores throughout the country. This includes the flagship outlet in Pavilion Kuala Lumpur as well as other boutiques in spots such as Mid Valley Megamall, The Exchange TRX, Suria KLCC and Gurney Plaza. For those who would like to check out the brand’s sister range, THE ONITSUKA, the nearest outpost is located in Singapore’s ION ORCHARD.
THE ONITSUKA’s store in Singapore is the first-of-its-kind here in Southeast Asia, joining the other openings in Japan and the United Kingdom. Situated on Level One of the popular mall (right across Bacha Coffee), THE ONITSUKA is home to a selection of the Maison’s luxurious offerings. Japanese precision and traditional craftsmanship take centre stage — be it with bags, shoes or ready-to-wear.
At the core of THE ONITSUKA is its footwear designs. They can best be recognised by the signature red hue (that can be seen on many of its shoes) crafted using “αGEL Foam” for a comfortable and lightweight cushioning. In addition, the leather styles are handmade with materials sourced from Japan itself. And this includes Kobe leather from Himeji. Durability and support are prioritised throughout the collection, from the use of thick shark soles to the embedding of sponges.
Classic options — available online and at the store — include the COURT-T sneakers in white and silver combo, the WEDGE-S shoes in black, the WIGURVE BOOT and the colourful BLUCHER LO among others. You can also find accessories such as socks, tote bags, wallets and clutches; offered in red, black and white shades.
