Here’s what we know about the Ambani family, the richest and most influential family in India.
The Ambanis are the new-age royalties of India, where lineage, influence and cultural values reign supreme, surpassing the need for a blue-blooded heritage. Celebrated as one of the wealthiest and most revered families globally, the Ambanis stand as pillars of prominence, making for a very prosperous Ambani family tree.
With philanthropic endeavours, opulent lifestyles and celebrations, and unforgettable red-carpet galas held at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC), they sure know how to weave a tale of magic and magnificence.
The Ambani family, synonymous with Reliance Industries, is rooted deeply in the visionary legacy of its patriarch, the late Dhirubhai Dhirajlal Hirachand Ambani, affectionately known as Dhirubhai Ambani. His indomitable spirit and entrepreneurial acumen laid the cornerstone of the Ambani empire, a legacy proudly carried forward by his sons, Mukesh and Anil Ambani.
While at the forefront are Mukesh and Anil’s wives Nita and Tina Ambani supporting their doting husbands, their children and now also their grandchildren to complete their influential family tree.
Read on as we break down the three generations of the Ambani family members.
Breaking down Dhirubhai Ambani’s family tree
Mukesh and Anil Ambani’s father, Dhirubhai Ambani was the visionary founder of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), who shaped the Ambani family legacy with his entrepreneurial prowess. Hailing from Gujarat, Dhirubhai demonstrated early retailing acumen, venturing into oil sales and fritter stalls as a teenager. Despite average academic performance, his innate leadership skills were unmistakable from a young age.
In 1955, Dhirubhai tied the knot with Kokilaben Ambani, and they became parents to Mukesh, Anil, Nina and Deepti Ambani. The turning point came in 1996 when, following a stroke, Dhirubhai entrusted the reins of Reliance Industries Limited to his sons, Mukesh and Anil Ambani.
On July 6, 2002, the sr. Ambani passed away due to another stroke.
Today, the Ambani family continues to be a powerhouse in the business world, with Mukesh Ambani leading Reliance Industries to new heights.

This family succession has not only preserved the essence of Dhirubhai’s vision but has also contributed to the sustained prosperity and prominence of one of India’s most influential business empires.
In 1985, Mukesh Ambani entered a lifelong partnership with Nita Ambani whom the late Dhirubhai himself had chosen for his beloved son. Together, Mukesh and Nita birthed Anant, Akash, and Isha Ambani.
