Week in Geek: The DCU’s Batman is here. Sort of.

It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s… DCU Batman? Here’s the week in geek.

The first week of 2025 has already been eventful for the world of geek. In Marvel news, their first family will be coming to Marvel Rivals and a brand new animated series following Spider-Man dropped its very first trailer. President Joe Biden honoured a number of people with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, among them actor and activist Michael J. Fox. Meanwhile, on the DC side of geekdom, Jason Momoa has jumped universes and we finally got our first really quick look at the DCU’s Dark Knight.

The Fantastic Four coming to Marvel Rivals, Michael J. Fox received the Presidential Medal of Honor, and our first look at the DCU’s Batman. Here’s what you may have missed this week in geek.

Michael J. Fox received the Presidential Medal of Freedom

The Candian-American actor has come a long way and endured so much since starring in the Back to the Future films. Fox was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 1991 and has been a staunch advocate for finding a cure for the disease since then, even going on to establish the Michael J. Fox foundation to help fund research. This week, Fox was given the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honour in the United States. President Joe Biden bestowed the honour on the actor along with other honorees that included Denzel Washington, Bill Nye, and Hilary Clinton.

The Fantastic Four are coming to Marvel Rivals

It’s only been a month since Marvel Rivals launched and it’s already a huge success. Players have been clamouring for more characters to be added to the roster, and it seems they’re getting just that. After it was leaked, developers NetEase have officially announced that Marvel’s first family, the Fantastic Four, is being added to the game. Players will be able to play Mister Fantastic, the Invisible Woman, the Thing, and the Human Torch starting on January 10 at 4pm Bangkok time.

Jason Momoa has been cast as Lobo in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow

The DCU has finally kicked off with Creature Commandos and its first movie, Superman, is due to be released this year. But an actor from the DCEU has officially jumped universes: Jason Momoa, the DCEU’s Aquaman, has been cast as Lobo in the upcoming Supergirl movie with Milly Alcock. Momoa has expressed his interest for his role before and cheekily announced that he got the role on his Instagram. Whether this means other previous DCEU actors can make an appearance remains to be seen

The trailer for Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man dropped

Marvel is exploring the beginnings of our favourite Webhead albeit in an alternate universe. This brand new animated series will follow the early adventures of Peter Parker as Spider-Man. However, in this universe, Tony Stark isn’t the one to take Peter under his wing. Instead, it’s Norman Osborn.

We finally got a glimpse of DCU Batman

The sixth episode of Creature Commandos tells the tragic origin story of Doctor Phosphorus who turns to a life of crime. And who brings Doctor Phosphorus to justice but none other than the Caped Crusader himself? It’s a very brief cameo but this is officially the first time we see DCU Batman, a fact that James Gunn himself confirmed. However, he did warn fans not to read too much into it
