A hit movie for all ages
School of Rock follows Dewey Finn (played by Jack Black in the movie), a wannabe rock star who got fired from his band. To earn extra cash, he poses as a substitute teacher at a prestigious school. After seeing the musical potential of students, he teaches them the ‘hardcore life’ of pop-rock music. They transform from straight-A students into guitar-shredding and bass-slapping rock group to win the Battle of the Bands contest.
Upon its release, the movie grossed over USD 132 million against a budget of USD 35 million. It received critical acclaim for Black’s performance along with its young cast, most of whom never acted. It was even the highest-grossing music-themed comedy of all time until Pitch Perfect 2 in 2015. Due to its unwavering popularity, the movie spun a musical adaptation in 2015, which will now make its way to Hong Kong.
