Week in Geek: Doctor Strange isn’t in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’!?

Doctor Strange won’t be in Avengers: Doomsday. What in the Cumberbatch is going on? Here’s the week in geek.

The origins of the legendary Doom Guy are set to be revealed. Invincible’s third season unveiled a stacked cast. The Ninja Gaiden series is finally back after 13 years. Assassin’s Creed is finally letting you customise your hideout. Samsung’s brand new Galaxy S25 series is pretty dang cool And Benedict Cumberbatch is spilling MCU secrets? Are we sure that’s the right Brit?

AC: Shadows brings customisable hideouts, Ninja Gaiden returns, Supergirl begins filming, the Galaxy S25 is upon us, and Doctor Strange is apparently not in the next Avengers movie. Here’s what you may have missed this week in geek.

Samsung held its annual Galaxy Unpacked

In its annual event, Samsung unveiled the brand-new Galaxy S25 series built with a number of AI capabilities. The new operating system named One UI 7 is enhanced with AI capabilities including learning user behaviour to suggest apps right on the lock screen, an enhanced way to search your photo gallery, and even the ability to list down things mentioned on a YouTube video amongst many, many other things. The S25 series has enhanced gaming performance and a better battery with shorter charging times.

You can finally build your base in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

AC fans, rejoice, because we can finally—finally—pimp out our Assassin’s Crib (heh) the way we want to. The latest addition to the franchise, which releases this March, has a village builder mode where the player can customise their base in any way they want. While Valhalla did allow players to upgrade their base, Shadows allows them to lay out their base á la Animal Crossing. IGN delved a little into the feature in their Final Preview video on YouTube.

The released date for Doom: The Dark Ages was revealed

The latest entry to the demon-slaying franchise has a release date. Doom: The Dark Ages, which is a prequel to the 2016 reboot, will trace the bloody origins of the legendary Doom Slayer. The game is said to be set in a “tech-medieval” kingdom and will be released on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on May 15.

Lego and Netflix unveiled a One Piece collab

You might be stepping on one piece of One Piece Lego soon. The toy company and streaming giant Netflix have announced that they’re collaborating on making pieces based on the hit live-action adaptation of the long-running manga series. No other details have been announced so stay tuned for updates.

A new Ninja Gaiden was announced

It’s been 13 years since Ninja Gaiden 3. 2025 is finally the year we get a brand new entry to the franchise. Ninja Gaiden 4 will follow a new protagonist and will take place a good number of years after the last entry. Fret not, Ryu Hayabusa is still in the game and will be playable.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow began filming

James Gunn and Milly Alcock shared on their social media that the DCU’s Supergirl movie has started filming. Not much can be gathered from the teaser image the director and star shared. Kara will clearly sport the same crest as her cousin Kal as evidenced by the symbol on the back of the chair. Other details we know about the film are that Jason Momoa will make a cameo as Lobo and Krypto the Superdog will also make an appearance. Other than that, we’ll have to wait for more details.

Kate Mara, Aaron Paul and Simu Liu joined Invincible Season 3

The bloody Prime Video animated series has added Aaron Paul and Simu Liu to the cast of its third season. Paul voices Powerplex and Mara voices Becky Duvall, two characters who will go up against Invincible. Liu will voice an assassin named Multi-Paul. The third season premieres on February 6.

Benedict Cumberbatch sayid Doctor Strange won’t be in Avengers: Doomsday

Is Benedict Cumberbatch the new Tom Holland of the MCU or is he taking a page out of Sherlock’s book and misdirecting us? In an interview with Variety, the British actor reportedly said “fu** it” to spoilers and revealed what could be a substantial plot point for the next two Avengers films. According to him, Doctor Strange will not be around for Doomsday but will play a “central part” in Avengers: Secret Wars.

Cumberbatch suddenly being blasé about MCU spoilers is, to put it in modern terms, quite sus. He’s always been the one keeping Tom Holland in check, especially during the Infinity War press tour. Is he telling the truth or has Marvel employed him to sow misinformation? Guess we’ll have to see.
