A look inside the set of Netflix’s ‘Physical: 100’ Season 2

Take a look at the set and behind the scenes of Netflix’s Physical: 100 Season 2.

Netflix reality show Physical:100 season two will finally grace our screens on March 19! And we have all the details of the new season. The signature aspects of the show such as the exploration of the question, “What is the perfect physique” will continue. This upcoming season, there will still be 100 contestants who will need to protect their torsos.

As previously revealed, the concept of the second season will be an underground mine. For the first time ever, we’re unveiling an exclusive first look of the Korean Netflix hit Physical: 100 Season 2 – Underground set from our visit to South Korea last August. Keep reading to find out more details.

If the first season had contestants hanging, the second season will have them running. The pre-quest will be a manual treadmill. Producer Jang highlighted that the most important aspect of this quest is that “it has to be something that everyone can do”. But at the same time, “it has to discern between abilities and strengths” which reflects one’s physical abilities.

“We had 100 participants stepping onto the manual treadmills and running at the same time,” said Jang Ho-gi, the producer of the show. This is to see how far each player could run within a given time. However, the treadmill is different from the machined ones. This one is manual and makes players run at their own pace as far as they want to. It may look simple at first glance but it’s completely different.

Viewers may remember the ball-taking quest from the debut season. In season two, the team expanded the floor area to twice that of the first season. Arena A will test the agility with all the slopes and poles while Arena B, the trench is filled with water and mud. They also added plenty of sand in the corner for safety. A new addition in season two is the cage arena, where contestants can have fierce hand-to-hand combats. “This is exactly the cage that you would use in an MMA fight,” Jang revealed. He also added that the new arena proved to be popular.

In between the main stages are the corridors. After players exit the Death Match Challenge, they will see their torso. If they’re a winner, they get to hug it but if they lose, they’d have to tear down the torso with a sledgehammer. This signature from the first season will remain in the next. “When contestants are playing the games, I hope they immerse themselves as if they’re in another world. So, that’s what we try to make with these sets,” said producer Jang.

‘Physical 100: Season 2 – Underground’ will have a diverse line-up of contestants

There will be new aspects of season two to be excited about. For instance, there will be more representation of different occupations as well as different physiques. The weights of the contestants range from 44 kilograms to 200 kilograms. The new season will also have more women competing for the top prize.

“We have created a mine that is the inspiration and the motif of the second season. I want to highlight that the second season is going to be a completely new and refreshed look from the first season,” said Jang.

Netflix recently announced the line-up of contestants for season two that includes MMA fights and army officers to those with ‘it’ bodies such as a skateboarder, a nurse, a ballerino, and more. Athletic celebrities such as Single Inferno’s Kang So-yeon and singer Lee Jang-jun will be part of the new season. There will be 30 out of 100 contestants who are either former or current national athletes.
