‘Sword of the Demon Hunter’ anime: Plot, cast, trailer and release date

Upcoming anime series Sword of the Demon Hunter is set to release in Summer 2024. Here is everything to know about it.

The series is based on the light novel of the same name, written by Moto’o Nakanishi and illustrated by Tamaki, which is quite popular among manga readers for its setting in the feudal Japanese era.

Set in the Edo period, Jinta is a protector assigned to safeguard a priestess in a secluded mountain village. Despite being an outsider to the community, he is given the responsibility of hunting down a demon in the forest to defeat it.

Kazuya Aiura, known for works such as Assassins Pride and Hori-san to Miyamura-kun (OAV), is directing the anime at Yokohama Animation Lab. Deko Akao, whose credits include Arakawa Under the Bridge and Noragami, is in charge of overseeing the series’ scripts. Taro Ikegami is responsible for character design. Meanwhile, the music composition is a collaborative effort involving Ryuuichi Takada, Keiichi Hirokawa and Kuniyuki Takahashi from MONACA.

Seven Seas Entertainment has described the upcoming anime series as follows: “For generations, a shrine has stood in the mountain village of Kadono, and for each generation, the shrine has had an Itsukihime — its shrine maiden — and the maiden has had her guardian.

“During the Edo period, a young man named Jinta protected the town and the Itsukihime. When he confronts a strange demon in the nearby forest, it tells him that in the distant future, a Demon God will threaten all people, everywhere, and it claims that the Demon God’s rise to power springs from this very time and place, in the village of Kadono. So begins the centuries-spanning journey of a man tainted by demons, hunting through time to seek justice for what he’s lost and find a reason to keep fighting.”

Coming to the voice cast of the Sword of the Demon Hunter anime, Taku Yashiro takes on the role of Jinta, while Saori Hayami portrays Shirayuki. Additionally, Reina Ueda (known for her role as Kanao Tsuyuri in Demon Slayer) brings Suzune to life.

Sword of the Demon Hunter anime’s release date

Sword of the Demon Hunter anime will be released in the Summer of 2024. The production house has not disclosed the exact date.
