Time to brush up on your Simlish. A live-action The Sims movie is coming from LuckyChap, the production company of Margot Robbie.
It seems like Margot Robbie has caught the bug for making adaptations that initially don’t seem plausible. After proving that a film based on a doll can be a cultural phenomenon, Robbie’s production company, LuckyChap, has set its eyes on adapting another cultural icon: The Sims, the life simulator game originally released back in 2000. Yes, the very same where you spent your childhood days killing your Sim by deleting the hand rail from the pool. I know you did it because we all did it.

LuckyChap, Margot Robbie’s production company, is making The Sims into a movie
The Hollywood Reporter was the one that broke the news yesterday. LuckyChap, which consists of Robbie and her other producing partners Tom Ackerly (who’s also her husband), Josey McNamara, and Sophia Kerr, will be producing the film alongside Roy Lee and Miri Yoon of Vertigo Entertainment. Kate Herron, who directed Loki Season 1, is set to helm and co-write the film. The game’s publisher, Electronic Arts, will also be involved.
It seems fitting that Margot Robbie and her production company will take on the task of adapting The Sims. Back when the Barbie film was first announced, people scratched their heads and wondered what the story could be. Much like the doll, The Sims is a video game with no plot. Players simply create their characters and live their lives. Ever since its initial release in 2000, the game has continued with numerous sequels and expansions.
Whatever the plot will be, fans of the game can be assured that it’s in good hands because Robbie and Co. clearly have experience in that regard. LuckyChap is also responsible for Saltburn, a film that got the interwebs “slurping” for joy, so they know how to get people talking. There are no details yet as to a release window for the film or who else will be writing it (could Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach pen this one too?) so keep your eyes peeled.
In the meantime, to get yourself hyped, listen to this Katy Perry banger—in Simlish. Sul sul.
