Bangkok’s 5 best tea rooms to enjoy a relaxing cup of tea

There’s nothing like a hot (or cold) cup of tea after a long day. Where coffee acts like hardcore rocket fuel and keeps you going for many mornings, tea reaches out homely and hospitable, like a warm hug during your dreamiest hour. From soothing aromas to sensual flavours, there’s almost something spiritual about drinking tea — from the careful selection of loose leaves, to the gently timed brewing and elaborate serving of the cup.

Aiming to capture this feeling within a menu and an ambiance, we’ve curated a list of Bangkok’s five best tea rooms. Between fine china cups and canapés, there’s everything from creative afternoon tea menus to imaginative culinary tea adaptations, as well as a one-of-a-kind Bangkok blend. Whether you’re a self-proclaimed tea connoisseur or a coffee-lover here in curious disguise, have a look through these Bangkok tea rooms listed below, and get sipping.

1823 Tea Lounge by Ronnefeldt

One of the oldest tea houses in the world, Ronnefeldt originally hails from Germany, where European noblemen travelled far and wide to sample its top-quality teas since the early 1800s. Premiering at Gaysorn Village, the world-first 1823 Tea Lounge by Ronnefeldt serves a beautiful tea collection, including two specially-blended local teas: a smooth and flowery Gaysorn blend, and a tropical fruity Bangkok blend — both created exclusively by tea master Nalinthron Triwattayas for the outlet. Pick up a caddy or two as an endearing souvenir, or enjoy a fresh brew after a buzzing day of shopping. Served alongside a subtly Austro-German food menu, Ronnefeldt’s 1823 Tea Lounge takes us right back to a world of old European charm, of grand Marie-Antoinette-levels of afternoon indulgence, and of timeless extravagance du jour.

Set within classic teakwood furnishings and delicate Thai ceramic décor, guests are invited to enjoy their tea in accompaniment of a vast food menu, with their afternoon tea service being a true highlight on the list. An exotic blend between East and West, the tea set includes anything from coconut and ginger scones, to banana fritters, dumplings, and mango and sticky rice. The House on Sathorn

Nestled between sky-high office buildings and the famed W Hotel, the charming pastel yellow House on Sathorn is hard to miss. Built over a century ago, the historic mansion which formerly housed Thai nobility and a Russian Embassy, thrives today as an idyllic spot to hide from the hustle and bustle (and traffic) of Sathorn road just outside. A sense of heritage lingers within the gorgeous colonial-style architecture and interiors, of which the Courtyard is definitely the highlight. Here, guests can unwind under delicate parasols, and enjoy a selection of Thai and European comfort food, as well as an indulgent afternoon tea set. It’s the kind of place that will always mentally teleport you away from worries and wonders, and proves precisely that the contents of your teacup are equally important to the soothing surroundings in which you enjoy them.
