There’s always something intriguing about trying a new cuisine and diversifying from your usual. Although indulging in authentic dishes helps one understand a specific culture more, fusion food hits differently. It combines ingredients from different countries and merges recipes to create something exciting— something new.
Fusion food allows people to explore and experiment with contrasting flavours and textures, and a restaurant eager to test out new food experiences is LAVA Asian Fire Grill. Opened just last year, LAVA is ready for a new chapter in its dining experience. Located in Thonglor, a haven for foodies, LAVA offers something different. Besides being known for its Wagyu and Black Angus cuts, the restaurant presents numerous dishes with some Asian influence. Recently, we had the chance to check out the restaurant and try some of their signature dishes. Here are the highlights you shouldn’t miss.

Must-tries at LAVA Asian Fire Grill
Australian Wagyu Tomahawk
Known for their expertise in fire-grilling, one must try at LAVA is the Australian Wagyu Tomahawk. What’s interesting about how they cook their steaks here is their signature “Kokoyaki” technique. When you take a bite, there’s a subtle smokey flavour from the dry coconut husk. Plus, the meat is perfectly grilled and juicy. Pair that with LAVA’s signature sauce or the Gochujang Bearnaise — that’s a chef’s kiss.
Beef Tartar & Bone Marrow
Originating in late 19 century France, steak tartare is a dish that’s arguably an acquired taste. Although originally made with few ingredients, LAVA has elevated this European delicacy with Asian flavours. Besides the succulent grilled bone marrow, there is a hint of Gochujang and other Asian condiments like sesame seed and soy sauce. The flavours of different culinary traditions all harmonise together into one delicious flavour bomb. They also serve this with homemade bread.
Truffle Risotto & Ox Tongue
You can never go wrong with truffle risotto, but adding braised ox tongue to the mix? That’s on another level. This dish was absolutely stunning. The stock used added a lot of flavour and the rice was lusciously creamy. An interesting take on an Italian dish, but with an Asian twist.
Hokkaido Uni Toast & Truffle Liver Toast
The hint of sweetness from the uni paired so well with this buttery, crispy brioche. Meanwhile, the chicken liver pate was smooth, creamy, and truly scrumptious. There was also parmesan on the toast, which added a hint of saltiness. Lastly, the fresh truffle shavings pull the dish together.
Trifle Prophecy Fortune Cookie
Remember to get your fortune before ending your meal. Although LAVA has a few dessert items, one that stood out the most was their Trifle Prophecy Fortune Cookie. Besides the delicious giant cookie, the salted caramel mousse was luscious. Not too sweet nor bitter, the taste reminded us of Banoffee pie, especially with the dollop of banana ice cream in the mix.
A New Chapter at LAVA Asian Fire Grill
As part of its new chapter, LAVA Asian Fire Grill will host monthly special events. These include chef collaborations, themed weeks, and exclusive wine dinners.
