The best new cafes in Bangkok this December
%Arabica (Empire Tower)
The world’s highest %Arabica cafe has now opened on the 55th floor of Sathorn’s Empire Tower. This Kyoto-born coffee gem has been on a caffeine-fueled expansion since its Thai debut in 2014, now boasting over eight branches across the city. As for the decor, the venue echoes the design of its counterparts–think a clean, white, minimalist space accented with touches of metallic lines. Looking above, you will see the coffee drippers, Chemex, hanging from the ceiling, resembling billowing clouds designed from Tokyo’s creative minds No.10.
55/F Empire Tower. Open daily 7am-9pm. Tel. 066-937-2100
Casa Lapin Flagship Store
Bangkok’s hip cafe Casa Lapin has unveiled its first flagship store in Charoen Nakorn Soi 10, breathing new life into a two-storey building by converting it into a cool, photogenic cafe. Unlike the other branches they have opened so far, the Casa Lapin Flagship Store boasts “Baking in Progress,” where customers can taste their freshly baked bagels right from the oven. Their main calling card, meanwhile, is still the coffee with a variety of bean options. Bring your four-paw friends and sip their specialty coffee.
Casa Lapin Flagship Store OURS Community Space. Charoen Nakorn Soi 10. Open 9am-10pm.
Nana Coffee Roaster (Central Westville)
Nana Coffee Roaster has opened its new branch at Central Westville featuring cave-like aesthetics with high-ceiling facades. The owner and award-winning barista Warong Chalanuchpong still helms the menu, whipping up no-nonsense concoctions like nitro coffee (THB 250) and hot Americano for THB 130.
Nana Coffee Roaster. CentralWestville. Open daily 7am-7pm. Tel. 061-021-7424.
Somewhere Home Cafe
Onnut folks are blessed with another homey cafe as Somewhere Home Cafe has landed in Onnut Soi 17. Renovating an old shophouse, the venue sports eye-popping green and brown wood accent furniture. Their basic coffee offerings start at THB 70, or go for their signature drinks like Lovaholic (THB 130) a cup of mocha with, well, added whiskey syrup.
Somewhere Home Cafe. Onnut Soi 17. Open Wed-Mon 8am-4pm.
Japan Pastry Cafe
Siam Square may be oversaturated with cafes, but when it comes to places that offer serious pastries, there are only a few we can count on. Making its quiet debut in the last two months, the Japanese Pastry Cafe promises an exquisitely-designed yogashi, or western-style Japanese sweet offerings, in the dishes like their MIL FE YU, a mille feuille whose crispy layers and clotted cream blends perfectly with the fresh tang from the variety of fruits on top. Their shortcakes aren’t to be missed either.
JPC Japan Pastry Cafe. Open daily 11am-6pm. Tel 092-792-0575
Pink Rosa Cafe
For two months, Pink Rosa Cafe is transforming Thonglor’s green oasis Patom Organic Cafe into a bubble gum pink dreamland, for a rosy, chic project collaboration between Vespa Thailand and the Thai artist Phannapast. The cafe brings together sweet delights that blend Phannapast’s designs and Vespa’s concepts into their making. Their Thai traditional dessert set (THB 59) sees a dainty daisy-shaped coconut jelly, khanom sai sai (steamed coconut custard with sweet coconut filling), and velvety red rabbit jelly, a nod to Rainbow Sue.
Open Tue-Sun 10am-7pm. Tel. 098-259-7514.

Ren Cafe and Goods
Charoenkrung has welcomed a new hip matcha cafe with Ren Cafe and Goods. Situated inside the chic community space Charoen 43, Ren.bkk has renovated an old two-storey shophouse and transformed it into another safe haven for matcha lovers. There’s a wide array of hojicha and matcha available, but we’d recommend you to try the Matcha Fruit Mocktail (THB180) which features layered shades of pink lychee and green, and when blended together, provide both umami notes and sweetness. Those with a sweet tooth can also order their matcha tiramisu or basque cheesecake for THB180.
Ren Cafe and Goods. Charoenkrung Soi 43. Open Tue-Sun 11am-6pm
Khiri Thai Tea
Thai tea lovers are blessed with another cha thai specialty spot. Though a bit out of our usual radar, considering it’s in Yaowarat, Khiri is worth all of the pilgrimage you take through Bangkok’s Chinatown traffic doom with its creative offerings made with your favourite drink. Here, they source their tea leaves from artisanal farms from Nan, Chiang Rai, Chiang Mai, and Pattani to make the drinks like Cha Thai Dirty (THB 170), a perfect blend between an all-conquering dirty and decadent Thai tea topped with a tiny mountain of Thai tea granita. If that’s not enough to satiate your cha Thai thirst, then go for their Thai Tea Bun (THB 180), a soft bun sandwich stuffed with, well, Thai tea ice cream.
Khiri Thai Tea. Tri Mit Rd., Khwaeng Talat Noi, Samphanthawong. MRT Hua Lamphong. Open daily 9am-6pm. Tel. 064-424-2929.
Bottomless
The popular coffee roaster Bottomless is opening their new standalone branch in Sukhumvit Soi 33 this 9 November. Though we don’t have much detail at the moment, we could tell that their new Sukhumvit 33 spot is definitely Instagram-worthy with its red-brick facade building sloping terrain, all complete with an open-air sipping spot for caffeinated enthusiasts.
Bottomless. Sukhumvit Soi 33. Soft Opening starting 9 November
Malou Tea Atelier
Breathing new life into a 50-year-old shophouse, Thitikarn “Som” Chongvatana, one of the brains behind Sathorn’s favourite brunch spots Luka Cafe, has transformed her family building in Charoennakorn into a tea showroom and cafe for her organic tea brand Malou Tea Atelier. With its gleaming glass window allowing an abundance of natural light, along with a wide array of tea container displays, this new cafe is a perfect retreat for escaping the city’s bustle and hustle. Choose from their 30 varieties of organic cold brew (starting at THB90) or go for their new signature drinks like the eponymous concoction Charoennakorn (THB70), blending the tanginess from tamarind tea, pickled plum, and fizzy soda.
Malou Tea Atelier Charoen Nakorn Soi 28-30. Open Mon-Fri 8am-5pm. Tel. 095-250-4471
Iki Haus
Mark our words: Phra Khanong folks will never run out of coffee and brunch spots to visit. The latest addition to the hood is Iki Haus, which may exude similar vibes and aesthetics that you can normally expect from Bangkok’s cafe scenes these days–think all-white facades, light-wood furniture, and an outdoor garden. But the best part about Iki Haus is that you can bring your four-paw buddies along while you enjoy a cup of coffee (starting at THB110) or order their homemade banana cake (THB 80).
Iki Haus. Sukhumvit Soi 71. Open Tue-Fri 8am-5pm; Sat-Sun 9am-6pm. Pet-friendly.
Okonomi (Asoke Tower)
After opening its second branch at Central Embassy last year, the Brooklyn-born brunch spot Okonomi has brought their Japanese-style breakfast and wide array of signature coffees to Asoke Tower. Like its elder siblings, the venue also embraces ichiju sansai, which roughly translates as “one soup, three dishes,” a mindful breakfast that balances nutrients in one meal–think the tuna lettuce tomato sandwich and yaki ochazuke (a Japanese crispy grilled rice poured with warm, soothing dashi soup).
Okonomi. 1/F Asoke Tower. Open daily 7am-7pm.
Guss Damn Good (Mahatun Plaza)
Bangkok’s favourite craft ice cream spot Guss Damn Good has reopened its Ploenchit spot with a new standalone branch, and it never fails to impress its fans–us included. The new venue, though exuding the same vibes and aesthetics with its previous predecessors, now boasts a wide array of new offerings–think Guss Coffee blending your favourite ice cream with a kick of caffeine or ‘Sliders,’ a blend between sandwich and burger offerings. On a totally unrelated note, Guss Damn Good unveils its special Cha Thai ice cream offering dubbed as “Thai Tea Dream” (THB 165), showcasing their Thai tea flavoured ice cream ‘Good Fellow’ topped with criminally decadent milk custard, roasted coconuts, and brioche soaking in their homemade unsweetened milk.
Guss Damn Good (Mahatun Plaza). Open daily 7am-10pm.
Huus Plate
After a short hiatus from closing its original branch in Phra Khanong, Huus of Bread has found its second life in Bangna as Huus Plate with a new massive list of brunch offerings. Fans of their coffee can still order their lemon-espresso Caffine Lemon (THB 130) or go for their Cookie and Cream Cloudy (THB 150) for non-caffeine options. Among their new food offerings is their salmon steak in white wine sauce served with their signature soft, chewy brioche. Those who still crave for their sho-nuts (a fusion between Japanese shokupan and donut) can find them here as well.
Huus Plate. Sukhumvit Soi 60 Phra Khanong. Open Tue-Sun 9.30am-5pm.
Ballad Coffee Bar
The team behind Klongsarn’s home cafe Walden has opened their new spot in Charoennakorn where soothing coffee beans meet vinyl music. Pick a seat by the gleaming window or go upstairs to find their little collection of books. The coffee offerings start at THB90, but we’d recommend their Coffee Libre (THB 120), a refreshing, fizzy concoction of crafted coca cola and lime.
Ballad Coffee Bar. 1337 Chaoren Nakorn Rd. Open Sun – Mon 8am-5pm.

Kintaam
Chiang Mai’s crowd-favourite ice cream sando parlor, Kintaam, has landed in Bangkok this month. Nestled in a cosy shop in Sathorn, they prioritise ingredients sourced from local farmers to craft exceptional frozen treats with a Thai twist. Whether you opt for ‘nom yen’ the popular Thai pink milk flavour, or ‘cha thai,’ a delightful Thai milk tea flavor complemented with roasted longan bits, you’re in for a treat.
Here, you can customise your sando: start with a crunchy biscuit–baked fresh daily–(options include butter, chocolate, oatmeal-cinnamon, or the fermented red rice ‘angkak’), select your ice cream flavour, and finish off with toppings such as sprinkle sugar, honeycombs, or roasted marshmallows, or–all for just THB75. Our top pick was ‘yen jiab,’ a distinctly tangy yogurt ice cream blended with ginger jam, delivering a delightful punch. Pair it with the red rice angkak biscuit to elevate the taste. Be prepared for the long lines, and make sure to check on their Instagram to see if their sandos have sold out for the day.
Kintaam. Sathorn Soi 11. Open daily 11am-9pm.
Shersanctuary
When Sherlyn Luangprasert began exploring the art of tea making, she never imagined venturing beyond matcha lattes. Her journey unexpectedly began when she mistakenly enrolled in a tea ceremony workshop, thinking she was signing up to learn how to craft the popular drinks of the time.
That single course became the catalyst for her burgeoning passion for tea. This led to the creation of Shersanctuary Tea Bar. Sherlyn describes it as a “safe space” where city dwellers can momentarily set aside their daily worries and immerse themselves in the serene world of tea.
One must-try is the ‘Sherlyn’ (THB250). This tea blend reflects Sherlyn’s personal journey to embrace cinnamon—a spice she grew to disdain due to its association with ‘palo,’ her least favourite dish from her Chinese upbringing. The tea offers vibrant, zesty flavours, mellowing to a gentle sweetness as it cools.
Shersanctuary Tea Bar, 66, 115 Phahonyothin Rd., Anusawari, Bang Khen, Bangkok. Open daily 10am-6pm. 064-419-3249
% Arabica (Park Silom)
Kyoto’s popular coffee chain known for its minimalist aesthetic, %Arabica has just unveiled its latest branch at Sathorn’s lifestyle community Park Silom. The new branch still adamantly follows the same minimalist aesthetics from its previous outlets with the brand iconic “%” signage, all white counters, and sleek metallic lines. Choose from the cafe latte (starting at THB130) to the smooth Kyoto latte (THB150). There’s also matcha latte (THB150) in case you’re not keen on drinking coffee.
% Arabica (Park Silom) M/F Park Silom. BTS Saladaeng. Open daily 7am-9pm.
Duck Donuts
The popular American doughnut chain just brought their famous doughnuts to Siam’s cool kids. Here, they use cake flour to mix and fry their doughnuts fresh daily, resulting in delicate and featherweight doughnuts. The best part? You can also customise your own flavours and toppings, starting at THB59.
Duck Donuts. M/F Siam Discovery. Open daily 10am-10pm.

Kad Kokoa at Velaa
The beloved chocolatier Kad Kokoa just opened another venue in Velaa, and nothing is short of amazing. Treat yourself to the bonbons they’re known for, as well as other chocolate creations with the highlight being the enrobed chocolates that are hugely popular in Europe. They also expanded into making drinks, and we’re not just talking about their rich chocolate drinks, because they’re also collaborating with Kosapan to make their cocoa cocktails come to life. Not into cocktails? There’s also an array of wine from BlackBird, as well as French Rieslings that pair perfectly with darker chocolates.

The beloved coffee spot in Soi Ton Son just relaunched its new dinner menu, offering guests the perfect opportunity to visit Sarnies Roastery as an after-work hangout spot, or if you’re just in the mood for some good food. The new selection may be small in number, but it sure makes up for it in quality and taste.
Start your session with a nice plate of garlic bread, or some burrata and orange fennel—a seemingly unconventional combo, but great in flavour and amazing in mouthfeel. Then, the steak with black garlic béarnaise, served on top of mashed potatoes, is not here to disappoint. The duck leg confit is also juicy and beautifully cooked.
