Weekend trip tip: Best food to eat around Punggol Coast MRT, Singapore

Singapore’s northeastern corner is now more accessible with the opening of Punggol Coast MRT station. Here is our guide on food, drinks, and more around the station.

Opened on 10 December 2024, the station links Punggol Digital District to the North East Line (NEL). It is also within walking distance to Punggol Coast bus interchange, Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) and Coney Island.

Punggol Coast MRT Station also takes travellers to the upcoming Punggol Coast Mall, which will have plenty of food. Expect eateries such as Paradise Hotpot, Din Tai Fung, and Sushi Tei. Jollibee is one of several fast-food chains. For cafes, go old school with Ya Kun or dig into ice cream waffles at The Better Scoop. The mall is also home to the future Punggol Coast Hawker Centre and its 40 food stalls.

For now, the closest food to Punggol Coast MRT station is inside SIT. The campus has a food court with 14 stalls serving a range of cuisines from American to hawker favourites. To the north is Maxim Tam Chiak Kopitiam, the namesake coffee shop of a food blogger-turned-restauranteur that offers dishes such as fried rice, roti prata, and bak chor mee. If you are up for a 15-minute walk, The Punggol Settlement is a perennial favourite of the area with restaurants specialising in white bee hoon, zi char, and mookata. Check them out below.

Foodgle Hub @ SIT Punggol Campus

I remember the days when my school canteen had five stalls, four of them bad. Students at Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) now have it much better with an airy, light-filled food court with 14 stalls. It has Japanese, Taiwanese, cai fan, beef noodles, prawn noodles, Indian Muslim, waffles and dim sum, even American cuisine with dishes like NY-style pizza and cioppino. For takeaways, the food court does not provide disposable packaging and encourages diners to bring their own containers. Foodgle Hub is only open to SIT students and staff from 11.30am to 2pm on weekdays. The public can dine there outside of those hours.

Punggol Coast Mall

Punggol Coast MRT deposits travellers directly at Punggol Coast Mall, a new retail complex in the area. While much of it has yet to open, expect chain eateries such as Din Tai Fung, Aston, Paradise Hotpot, Ha-Jun Korean, Sushi Go, Sushi Tei, and Shihlin Taiwan Street Snacks. Jollibee, McDonald’s, and Burger King are also in the mix, joined by cafes like Ya Kun Kaya Toast, The Better Scoop, and White Cloud Cafe. For drinks, there will be Luckin Coffee, Starbucks, and Mr Coconut. The mall will also be home to Punggol Coast Hawker Centre, which is slated to have 40 food stalls.

The Punggol Settlement

The Punggol Settlement is a 15-minute walk from Punggol Coast MRT station, but the food options make it worthwhile. Diners can enjoy views of the Straits of Johor and Johor Bahru in the distance while dining on The House of White Bee Hoon’s signature dish, and zi char from House of Seafood. Other eateries to look out for are Siam Square Mookata, Izakaya 95, Tandoor Lounge, JB Dai Lao Lala Pot, bistro Georges by the Bay, and southern American restaurant Southwest @ Punggol.

Jethro enjoys wine, biking, and climbing, and he's terrible at all three. In between them, he drinks commercial lagers, and eats dumplings and ice cream.
