Le Café Louis Vuitton

A fresh new cafe that opened in Bangkok this year, Le Café Louis Vuitton, along with other offerings in its retail concept store, took foodies and cafe hoppers by storm. Located on the ground floor, Le Café Louis Vuitton sports a lush ambiance, combining botanical design motifs with iconic details from the Maison–think the Monogram parquet floor and the furniture referencing the iconic Objets Nomades.

What we’re ordering: The highlights include the Star Blossom Cake (THB550), a rich chocolate and caramel cake; Mango Tart (THB450), a tart featuring Thai mango and almond cream; and the Monogram Cake (THB550), a pistachio and orange blossom cake. For their first cafe in Thailand, Louis Vuitton also whipped up some of the creations inspired from local ingredients, such as the Mango Sticky Rice Fizz, made with mango and sticky rice-infused syrup with tonic water.

Opening times: Open daily, 10am-7.30pm

A DAY OF

This new cafe in Bangkok may be far away from the city centre, but it’s so worth it. A DAY OF calls itself a “therapist cafe,” and although there are no licensed therapists on the premises that we know of, they wanted the cafe to act as if your problems could be washed away just by walking in. The unique ambiance of the mid-century style interior in contrast with the khlong-side porch where you can sip your coffee al fresco, feels as if you’ve really made it in life.

What we’re ordering: Being right next to the water calls for something more refreshing — tropical, even. Their mango cold brew and mango matcha are perfect for that specific vibe, with a hit of caffeine and the sweet and sourness from the mango. For something a bit more rich, the honey latte uses fresh milk and a very aromatic espresso.

Opening times: Open daily, 9-6pm
Location: 43/1 Khlong Pittaya Longkorn road, Tha Kham, Bang Khun Thian, Bangkok 10150
Nearest station: Lak Song, BTS

April Trees

April Trees describe themselves as both a pâtisserie and a boulangerie. As those words are used more liberally outside of France, in this case, it just means they sell both pastries and bread. Nonetheless, there’s great pastries and bread baked with care. With a vinyl player on the premise and warm-toned interiors, the place makes for great morning pick-me-ups, or to lay back with a book of choice.

What we’re ordering: They’re aiming to change the coffee and baked goods menus monthly, which adds to the excitement if you’re a regular. Nonetheless, keeping it simple may be best: perhaps a salted butter roll or a simple croissant, paired with an espresso.

More info: April Trees
Opening times: Mon-Fri, 9am-3pm
Location: 7 Vibhavadi Rangsit 16/28 Alley, Ratchadaphisek, Din Daeng, Bangkok
Nearest station: Ratchadaphisek, MRT

Shelly House

Located in Sathorn, Shelly House is directly inspired by, as well as designed to be, a beach house in Shelly Beach, Australia. They wanted city dwellers to be able to feel the relaxing beach vibes even in such a bustling area, with a lot of white and blues in their interior, along with plenty of natural light poking through. It’s a new cafe in Bangkok where you will find joy coming back again and again.

What we’re ordering: Along with their wide array of coffee and non-coffee options (they do great smoothies), they also offer home-baked pastries and a brunch menu inspired by Mediterranean flavours. In fact, their flatbread is baked inside their dedicated oven, and their Greek-style grilled chicken salad is a hit among customers.

Opening times: Wed-Mon, 9am-5pm
Location: 12 Soi Sathon 2, Silom, Bang Rak, Bangkok
Nearest station: Lumphini, MRT

Koff & Bun at Song Wat

Bangkhae’s favourite local coffee spot has opened up a new branch in the up-and-coming Song Wat road. With the 2018 Thailand National Roasting Champion as its owner, their roasted coffee beans are second to none. They offer a lot of drip selections from all over Thailand and abroad, and knowledgable people behind the counter ready to help if you feel spoiled for choice — a perfect addition as a new cafe in Bangkok this year.

What we’re ordering: With such a wide variety of beans and options to choose from, there are no wrong ways to order. However, be sure to get their signature steam buns; the recipe has been passed down for three generations now. You need both the koff, and the bun, after all.

More info: Koff & Bun at Song Wat
Opening times: Open daily, 8am-5pm
Location: 983/2 Song Wat road, Samphanthawong, Bangkok
Nearest station: Wat Mangkon, MRT

Craftsman Roastery Old Town

Bamrung Mueang road is a beautiful part of Old Town Bangkok — one where you can see the classic architecture and sample food stalls that have been there for generations. Adding to that roster of beautiful stores is Craftsman Roastery’s new branch, presenting a good coffee and bakery selection while retaining the old building structure.

What we’re ordering: Amber Dirty (THB 135), their signature dirty coffee with syrup made from coconut milk, as well as their variety of scrumptious parties, including the pumpkin pie, coconut cake, and sea salted butter roll.

Opening times: Open daily, 7.30am-5pm

Moonne knows all about how to bake good cakes perfect for any occasion, and their new venture in Sukhumvit 20 titled ‘moonne20’, is all about homemade ingredients crafted with care. Whether it’s savoury or sweet, they have a wide array of international and Thai items to satisfy any craving. If you need a cake for a special for an occasion, they’re also the perfect people to get in touch with.

What we’re ordering: Their signature “Kimono” (THB 290), a light matcha terrine served with matcha cream and matcha powder, goes amazingly well with their creamy milk with Madagascan vanilla seeds (THB 95). On the savoury side, their fish and chips (THB 340) is amazingly crispy and light, served with housemade tartar sauce, as well as the “Burnt Brie!” (THB 350), fettuccine with dashi, shoyu, prosciutto, and topped with burnt brie and lemon zest.

illy Caffè

illy Caffè’s name may ring a bell to many, as they’re present in 34 countries around the world. This illy Caffè is the first-ever branch in Thailand, located on the lower ground floor of Erawan Bangkok. Pop by for some delicious coffee selections, and stay for the array of Italian dishes freshly made with care.

What we’re ordering: Nobody can deny the pleasures of all-day breakfast, and their Eggs Florentine (THB 330) features an Italian hollandaise sauce we adore. What shines the most has to be the tiramisu made with illy’s coffee (THB 190), as this dessert really pops with good coffee. The beverage selection has something for everyone, but we’re especially charmed by the Infiore (THB 150): espresso with whole milk, acacia honey, and apricot jam.

Opening times: Open daily, 8am-9pm

Hometown Bkk

We all love a good twist on classic desserts, and we love when things are made in-house — it just adds another layer of love and care. Hometown Bkk features both at their newly-opened storefront in Sam Yot. Surrounded by the old town area, it’s the perfect place to casually drop by for something that alleviates you from the Bangkok heat.

What we’re ordering: The Kanom Kai Gelato (THB 179) serves up homemade ice cream with Thai egg cakes, topped with strawberry sauce and roasted cashew nuts. The House Blend Thai Tea (THB 85) features a tea recipe that went through meticulous testing, available with a price more than fair.

Heiwa Kissa

Heiwa Kissa describes itself as a “Kissaten.” Kissatens first popped up in Showa era-Japan when there was a coffee boom in the country, offering an environment different than your usual cafe — a quieter place to enjoy coffees and conversations. It’s the perfect place to escape Bangkok’s chaos.

What we’re ordering: The Japanese always perfect their craft, even down to the ice cubes. The latte (THB 120) is a great way to see how they create each glass with care, but the absolute highlight is the Melon Cream Soda (THB 120). It’s a staple at kissatans since the 1940s, and you’ll see why from the first sip.
