The Marvel legend is now taking his sustainable mission to food. Here’s what you need to know about Cool Food, a new cookbook from Robert Downey Jr. featuring eco-friendly recipes.
You may know him as Iron Man and, more recently, as Lewis Strauss in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, but Robert Downey Jr. obsession for the past few years now is saving the Earth. He founded the Footprint Coalition in 2019, an investment firm that funds innovative eco-friendly ideas. His show, Downey’s Dream Cars, where he embarks on a quest to transform his car collection into electric vehicles, premiered on Max. He even adopted the unique and sustainable Binishell as one of his homes.
However, it seems like he isn’t done. The actor and eco-warrior is now using his fame and influence to turn our attention to another aspect of life that could use some environmental awareness: our food.

Robert Downey Jr. makes a case for sustainable eating in Cool Food
Downey’s latest venture is a cookbook titled Cool Food: Erasing Your Carbon Footprint One Bite at a Time. The book aims to make people start thinking differently whenever they make decisions on what to cook and what ingredients to buy when in the supermarket. It promises to “show you how to make simple choices, starting today—in the supermarket, in your kitchen, and in the world—to reduce your environmental impact”.
“This is like an ADD, open-it-to-any-page guide to ‘How can I reduce my carbon footprint in a way that’s super simple’ by changing my habits and the way that I eat,” said Downey when he talked about the book on Jimmy Kimmel Live! He goes on to say that there are many choices and that making these choices, though small, makes a big difference.
Co-authoring the book with Downey is Thomas Kostigen, a New York Times-bestselling author, journalist, and climate advocate. He’s written books on the climate like The Green Book: The Everyday Guide to Saving the Planet One Simple Step at a Time and has also written for National Geographic and The Washington Post.
Cool Food is set to be released on January 23. There’s also a contest that you can enter when preordering the book on its website to get a chance to win an autographed version of the book.
