The iconic Home Alone house is up for sale

Your childhood dream of defending your house from the Wet Bandits could come true if you manage to buy the palatial house from Home Alone.

It’s been over 30 years since Kevin McAllister took his role as the man of the house seriously and with no mercy and great violence, ingeniously staved off a burglary. His traps remain a thing of legend, one that even the Mythbusters had to investigate just to prove their lethality, but so has the McAllister house. Over the years, many have marvelled at just how big the abode is being able to accommodate the McAllisters all under one roof. People have also speculated what the jobs of Peter and Kate, Kevin’s parents, had to be to be able to afford such a home. Even more people have bemoaned inflation and the reality that the house will probably cost an astronomical amount if it ever went on the market today.

Well, it turns out that it actually is on the market today. The Dawn McKenna Group took to their social media two days ago to announce the iconic McAllister house is up for grabs.

The Home Alone house could be yours

Located in Winnetka, Illinois, the 9,126-square-foot home was originally built in 1921. The home boasts five bedrooms and six bathrooms. Its exterior remains pretty much as audiences remember it from the 1990 and 1992 films: the steps on which Harry slipped as he struggled to reach the front door are still there and the spacious backyard is also present though sans Kevin’s treehouse.

As for the interior, fans of the film will remember that it’s the epitome of 90’s decor. Clearly, that’s not going to vibe with the aesthetic of 2024, but luckily, the interior has been extravagantly and beautifully redesigned. Aside from the home’s new modern look, it now also has a game room, a basketball half-court, and a home theatre complete with a Home Alone poster and a Lego Kevin McAllister.

The question, of course, is how much is the McAllister house going for. People on the interwebs who theorised that it would cost a pretty penny are right though the price is surprisingly still somewhat low for a house that’s so embedded in pop culture and exquisitely refurbished. The Home Alone house could be yours for a cool USD 5.25 million.
