Glory and fame are bright and shiny, but the landlord won’t take those as currency. Here’s how much money athletes in Thailand will get if they win gold, silver, or bronze medals. As it turns out, if you get the prize money for one Olympic medal, you’re set for a long while.
Picture it: Thailand, 2024. You grew tired of tumbling out of bed and working 9 to 5 — what a way to make a livin’— so you wanted to try for the Olympics to represent Thailand in the modern pentathlon category or whatever you’re good at.
You got in, you’re now in Paris, and have a gold medal around your neck. Now what happens? Money is what happens; a perfect ending to that very specific fantasy. And that very specific fantasy can still happen if you start training now, considering the prize money for achieving Olympic medals hasn’t increased one bit since four years ago.

Gold medal: THB 12 million, paid over four years, or THB 10 million in a lump sum.
Silver medal: THB 7.2 million, paid over four years, or THB 6 million in a lump sum.
Bronze medal: THB 4.8 million, paid over four years, or THB 4 million in a lump sum.
To put it into perspective: if you happen to win gold, you can invest in a good ride from Mercedes Benz, perhaps some real estate, and even around two drinks at BKK Social Club.
Governor of Sports Authority Thailand (SAT) Kongsak Yodmanee had noted that each Olympic medal prize money is a gift to athletes for bringing fame to Thailand, thus all of these earnings will be free of tax. The rewards are supplied by the National Sports Development Fund (NSDF).
This year, the number of competitors from Thailand totals to 43 athletes: 21 men and 22 women. They will be participating in 12 sports categories, out of the total 32 categories.
