A blockbuster event, interest around the Olympics is at an all-time high in every corner of the world. Here in Thailand too, the situation is no different.

Before we start talking about the event in detail, here are a few things you need to keep in mind about the Olympics 2024:

  • Date: 26 July to 11 August
  • Venue: Paris, France

Thailand has sent a strong contingent of 51 athletes (covering 16 sports) to the Olympics this year. Even then, it took us well over a week to win our first medal in Paris.

With Kunlavut Vitidsarn’s silver medal win on Monday, 5 August, Thailand has finally opened its medals tally at the Paris Olympics 2024. As it turns out, our contingent was just getting started with their Olympics showing.

On 6th August, Janjaem Suwannapheng put the second medal on the Thailand medals tally at the 2024 Olympics by winning a bronze in boxing in the women’s welterweight category.

7th August was nothing less than a gold mine (literally) for our contingent as we added three more medals to our tally, including our first gold at the 2024 Olympics.

Panipak Wongpattanakit showed incredible skill and grit by securing a gold medal in taekwondo in the women’s 49 kg category. This marks the talented Thai athlete’s second gold medal and third overall medal at the Olympics. She had previously won the gold at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and a bronze at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

It was also a good day for our weightlifters as both Theerapong Silachai and Surodchana Khambao won medals. While Silachai won a silver in the men’s −61 kg category, Khambao won the bronze in the women’s 49 kg category.

In the meantime, scroll on if you want to know about the history of Thailand at the Olympic Games and take a look at our medals tally in 2024.
