Bangkok Illumination Festival 2024 is back, transforming many parts of the capital to become even more magical. Expect dazzling lights and sounds displays that are perfect for photo opps, or just for a stroll after work. After all, with the chill winter breeze, it’s the perfect time to walk around and enjoy what Bangkok has to offer, and beautiful lights illuminating the way are certainly a big plus.

Moo Deng to take over Bangkok this 17 December – 5 January

During the period of 17 December 2024 – 5 January 2025, both locals and international visitors will be thrilled to find Bangkok Illumination Festival 2024 as they traverse the capital. This year’s theme is all about the celebrity pygmy hippo Moo Deng, with the theme titled “Moo Deng Buk Krung” (The Bouncing Pig Takes Over the Capital).

Locations include:

  • Nimibutr Sports Complex: Twinkling lights show plus ‘DJ Deng’ manning the entertainment.
  • OneSiam: The gorgeous ‘Madame Deng’ takes over the skywalk.
  • Siam Center to CentralwOrld: Throughout the bustling street will be decorated with vibrant lights displays.
  • Hua Lamphong Railway Station: ‘Deng-zilla’ is seen atop of the building, local authorities on high alert.
  • Phadung Krung Kasem Canal: Street art coupled with beautiful lights show along the canal.
  • Thanan Mittaphap Thai-China (Soi Wat Traimit): Lights display along the old town area, a brief walk from MRT Hua Lamphong station.
  • Chinatown Gate (Odeon Circle): ‘Muay Deng’ can be seen flexing and prepping for his next big fight.
  • Asoke BTS Skywalk: Colourful light displays along the skywalk, can be seen from Asoke Intersection.
  • Benchasiri Park: Moo Deng takes over the park with lights and colours displays.

All the lights will be turned on at 6pm sharp. Those interested can plan ahead to ensure there is minimal delay, especially in very congested areas during rush hour, such as Asoke, Siam, and Chinatown. However, many of these locations can be grouped together to visit in one go, as many are within walking distance from one another.
