Bangkok is full of things to do this week, even more so than ever. Apart from all the dining options for Chinese New Year, there are guest shifts, a four-hand dinner, exhibitions, celebrations, and more. You might as well treat our article as a checklist, because you deserve it, baby.
28 January, 8-10pm
Ojo is about to get so much f*nkier, as resident of F*nkytown, Earth Piewkam, will be taking over the bar for one evening only. He’ll be showcasing his warm hospitality along with ice-cold cocktails, including his signature Durian Colada. Come for a taste, or pop by earlier for Ojo’s creative Mexican cuisine if you’re feeling peckish.

For the auspicious occasion, Langsuan drinking spot The Pickwicks Chronicles is giving back to their guests. Special cocktails are ready to be served, and anyone spending more than THB 2,000 will receive a red envelope with amazing rewards. DJs will be behind the booth as per usual, so you know the vibes will be on point.

30 January, 6pm onwards
Blessing Shophouse provides an elegant cocktail experience all around. For Chinese New Year, they’re throwing a big party with special cocktails just for the occasion, and DJ YP behind the station from 9pm onwards. One of the highlights include the “Nián Nián You Yú, made with sacred lotus tea-infused whisky, lotus root soda, and sea salt.

30 January – 1 February, 6pm onwards
One dinner, four hands, five stars. Chef Christian Le Squer of Four Seasons Hotel George V, Paris, has three Michelin stars under his belt. For two evenings only, he’ll be joining Bangkok’s Chef Chumpol Jangprai at the two Michelin-starred R-HAAN to create seven courses of sumptuous Thai-French flavours you won’t forget in a hurry. Wine pairing is available at an additional cost.

1 February, 8pm-midnight
It’s getting brutal(ist) up in here, for this post-war architecture-themed cocktail bar is doing a bar swap, hosting Nay Phongthep of Grey Area BKK, and Lue Tao of Obsession. They’re bringing their own signature cocktails and fun hospitality, while giving us another reason to go back to the Ari neighbourhood.

From today onwards, 5pm onwards
For almost every day of the week, Bar.Yard is doing a rotating roster of themed nights that ensure it will never get boring at this rooftop destination. Tuesdays are for tacos — from beef brisket to carne asada — for just THB 85 each. Wednesdays feature THB 300 Cosmopolitans all night. Thursdays are for the ladies, with complimentary drinks and throwback tunes. Fridays and Sundays turn the venue into an urban jungle with high-energy beats. Sundays see reggae grooves paired with Jamaican jerk dishes. On Mondays? Come anyway for the vibes.

Central: The Original Store is hosting two art exhibitions at once, located on their 3rd and 4th floors. ‘From Abstraction to Realism: A Virtual Reality Exploration’ is created by a collection of artists both local and international, exploring the line between abstract and realistic art using virtual reality technology. ‘First of the Roll: Exploring New Dimensions in Photography’ is an homage to the era of analog photography, highlighting the first images of each film; flaws and all.

Newly-appointed Chef de Cuisine Athiti Moungthon has come in with a bang, unveiling a new tasting menu inspired by family recipes that can guarantee authentic regional flavours packed to the brim into every dish. Highlights include grilled river prawn with curry sauce, southern-style naam phrik with grilled mackerel, and octopus in coconut broth with lemon grass.

This season, the culinary team of Nimitr Restaurant & Rooftop Bar has revived long-lost recipes from the Lanna and Central regions of Thailand. Furthermore, they’re committed to connect with local farms to bring in fresh ingredients straight from the source. Highlights include faux turtle egg salad with longan and prawns from King Rama V era, ‘Ngow Ngord’ curry soup, a delicacy from Ayutthaya period with seabass, young watermelon, and basil, as well as the ‘miang sot’ made using pork belly, peanuts, and dried shrimp.

Bangkok has its fair share of tea places and smoothie spots, but PIMS promises to be “more than tea.” Started in Dubai, PIMS has been a provider of high-quality fermented teas with over 20 variations, from fruity to creamy. They’re also very customisable with an array of add-ons, and plant-based milk alternatives. Highlights include da hong pao oolong with cream, jasmine tea with passionfruit and lychee, and the “All In,” which is jasmine tea with lime, orange, grapefruit, passionfruit, strawberry, lychee, and pineapple.
