Songkran is celebrated throughout the kingdom, but there are hot spots where you can expect all the action to go down. Here are some Songkran 2024 events to check out this year in Bangkok.
Every year, Songkran is celebrated on 13-15 April to mark the beginning of the Thai New Year. Traditionally, water is used to symbolise purification; washing away our bad luck and sins, along with paying respects to our ancestors.
Now, it’s recognised by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage, celebrated by both local and international folks, and huge parties, and parades are held every year. Here are some Songkran events to look forward to in Bangkok this summer.

11-15 April, Sanam Luang
This official Songkran event is a joint collaboration between the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Interior, and the Tourism Authority of Thailand. The big parade on 11 April will feature over 1,000 performers in total, and water fights will be on-going all day. At least that way the summer heat will be more tolerable after a tour of The Grand Palace.
13-15 April, Live Park Rama 9
It’s one of the biggest EDM festivals in Bangkok, and getting wet is a big plus. This annual event sees international headliners coming in to make sure the nights are all the more memorable. For 2024, participating artists to look forward to include The Chainsmokers, Showtek, Armin Van Buuren, Afrojack, and more. S2O will also be heading to Hong Kong if you’re planning a vacation later on.
12-15 April, RCA Central Park
EDM enthusiasts always have an eye out for SIAM Songkran Music Festival, as it seems they up their game of inviting international headliners every year. That is also the case for 2024, as some headliners are brought to perform as part of a festival in Bangkok for the first time.
