Vesper

What to order: Vesper Martini

Vesper has been a staple on Bangkok’s bar scene for over 10 years. The hospitality is warm, the drinks are lovely, and more often than not you make new friends just by sitting in one of the bar seats. The bar rose to the No. 16 spot on Asia’s 50 Best Bars 2023 list, and they remain a beloved establishment to this day. Although Bar Manager Tom Hearn‘s second edition of the “People of Vesper” menu has been met with raving reviews, the most comfort we find is from their ice-cold Vesper Martini.

Bar Sathorn

What to order: Americano, or their twist “The Staro Americano”

Also known as “The Bar at The House on Sathorn”, this venue is located in a historic century-old mansion that makes it a perfect place to catch the sun going down, and stay till late. The menu boasts soul-soothing classic twists by Bar Manager Marco Dongi, with a theme of telling the history of the building from the 1920s till today. An Americano from this bar is perfect as the first drink or as a night cap — it’s refreshing, aromatic, and low-ABV. Or, enjoy their own take on the classic, “The Staro Americano,” made with fermented strawberries.

Rogue Affair

What to order: Spirit-forward cocktails

Rogue Affair’s atmosphere always feels lively and intimate, and you can always feel the warm hospitality from the bar team. Order a drink and sit by the bar, or by the poker mat and test your luck (not with real money, of course). The bar menu’s concept is modelled after playing cards: four types of face cards with four drinks each to represent them. Spirit-forwards can prove quite complicated to get right, and yet Rogue Affair makes them beautifully. The “King Spade” is made from truffle-infused whisky, Cynar, cherry heering, chocolate bitters, a bit of salt, and garnished with more truffles.

Order one of those to go with the sundowner experience, or one of the classic twists they have as signature drinks.

What to order: Fizzy drinks from their signature menu

Sundry and its four-level building has become a lot of things since its opening. It’s a drinking spot for those looking to relax. It’s a hub of entertainment with events on the regular. It’s a place filled with sense of community. The signature menu is inspired by the city we adore, Bangkok, from the perspective of locals. What they seem to do best is the fizzy entries, from a vodka soda with mango, to a gin-based tall drink with rose apple and sweet basil.

Smalls

What to order: Negroni

The live music performances at Smalls should be studied in universities. The atmosphere of the venue is electric once the band comes on, and they have regular rotations of genres from swing jazz to African percussion. We’d say Silom needs more jazz bars, but who needs another one when Smalls already hits the spot? When music is in the air, you don’t need anything so complex — just simple drinks done right. Bars in Silom area are all about that. for so long. Order a Negroni, or perhaps a Martini if you’re more into gin.

The Stranger Bar

What to order: Vodka soda

It would be a hate crime to write about bars in Silom, one of the most LGBTQ+ friendly neighbourhoods of Bangkok, without including one of many of the community’s finest establishments. The Stranger Bar is home to dazzling performances by Bangkok’s drag talents. Let the dolls lipsync for their lives, and don’t forget to tip. Order a vodka soda, because gays are the most impressive bodyshamers we’ve ever seen. No Pina Coladas in this house, henny.
