‘The White Lotus’ season 3 episode release schedule: Same spirits, new forms

HBO’s riveting gem The White Lotus is back with its much anticipated season 3. Set in Thailand, the third instalment will follow the exploits of a new group of vacationers and hotel employees over the course of a week. Created by Mike White, season 1 of the American black comedy drama premiered on 11 July 2021 to great critical acclaim. Applauded primarily for its genius writing, well-developed characters and satirical portrayal of class dynamics and luxury vacationing, season 1 enjoyed multiple wins at the 2022 Primetime Emmy Awards — including Outstanding Directing for White, Outstanding Supporting Actress for Jennifer Coolidge and Outstanding Supporting Actor for Murray Bartlett.

Meanwhile, season 2 was released on 30 October 2022 and became an instant commercial blockbuster. According to HBO (via Deadline), the series enjoyed a record-breaking finale with over 4.1 million global viewers across the platform. It also won major nods at the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Drama Series – 2023 for Jennifer Coolidge and Outstanding Music Supervision – 2023.

Season 3, which premiered on 16 February 2025, is expected to expand the anthology’s success with a new plot and twisted characters.

Talking about the same, lead actor Aimee Lou Wood shared in a press conference, “It’s about fate versus free will. How much is destined and how much choice and agency do we have? Some people have the fatal flaw, the pride. And is that destined, that downfall, or do we have a choice?”

What has happened in season 3 so far?

Episode one of season 3 opens with Zion Lindsey — the son of visiting spa centre manager Belinda — getting ready for a meditation session with staff member Amrita. Soon, multiple gunshots create a commotion and a corpse floats into view.

The narrative then shifts to a week earlier. As a ship approaches the harbour, viewers see the staff preparing to greet the new guests arriving at White Lotus for their stay.

General manager Fabian calls hotel owner Sritala to inform her about the arrival but the latter orders the staff to wait for her. Meanwhile, health mentor Mook’s bike breaks down but coworker Gaitok, who has a soft spot for her, helps her get to work on time on his motorbike.

Who are the new guests?

The Ratliff family

This family from South Carolina includes Timothy and Victoria, a wealthy businessman and his wife. Piper, their daughter, is a college senior, who is writing her thesis on Buddhism; Saxon, the eldest son, works for his father; and Lochlan, the youngest son, is a high school senior struggling to decide on his next college.

After they arrive at the hotel, the Ratliffs seem anything but interested in the wellness offerings at the resort. Saxon complains about the property not having wifi and wonders what he is supposed to do all week without his phone. Piper, on the other hand, decides to interview a Buddhist monk for her thesis the next day.

As the episode ends, some unusual sibling dynamics are on display. Saxon, not only refers to his sister as “pretty hot,” he also implies watching porn despite Lochlan being in the room. Later, as Saxon walks naked to the bathroom, Lochlan stares intently at him and looks away only when the door closes.

The girls’ trip trio

Jaclyn is a famous actress. Laurie and Kate are her childhood friends.

As the episode begins, the complicated ties between Jaclyn, Laurie and Kate come to the forefront. Viewers also discover that Jaclyn paid for the whole trip.

At night, Laurie goes to bed before the other two. On her way, she notices Jaclyn and Kate still talking and breaks down into sobs.

The couple

Rick Hatchett is a mysterious man travelling to Thailand with Chelsea, his girlfriend.

In episode one, Rick and Chelsea appear quite inquisitive. When Mook is assigned to giving the duo a tour, Rick surprises the former by asking if Sritala is married. Mook informs them that she is married to Jim Hollinger, “a very famous man in Thailand.” Rick then inquires if Jim is in White Lotus and Mook states that he is in Bangkok. The revelation seems to upset Rick and he walks off.

Episode 2 will air on HBO on 23 February 2025. For viewers in Thailand, the episode will be available to stream on Max on 24 February 2025.
