Taiwan announces digital nomad visa to attract global professionals

Taiwan is the latest country to offer a digital nomad visa, allowing remote workers to stay for up to 6 months and explore the island nation.

Joining the list of other East Asian destinations like Japan, Thailand, and South Korea, Taiwan is also set to delight with a lucrative six-month digital nomad visa scheme to attract global talent. Instead of competing with its counterparts, Taiwan endeavours to complement their digital nomad offerings. For instance, remote employees can now come to Taiwan after completing their non-extendable six-month stay under Japan’s digital nomad visa programme.

Digital Nomad Visa in Asia: Taiwan joins the list

To attract global talent and position Taiwan as an inspiring abode for remote employees, the island nation is all set to join the list of countries offering digital nomad visas. This scheme will come into effect after approval from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Currently, remote workers in Taiwan rely solely on visa-free entry or a standard tourist visa, limiting their stay to three months.

Beyond the visa, Taiwan is simplifying the process for skilled and high-income professionals to obtain permanent residency in the country.

Other Asian countries offering digital nomad schemes include South Korea, Japan, and Thailand. Thailand’s new ‘Destination Thailand Visa’ allows remote workers to stay, explore, and work from the country for 180 days. Remote workers can opt for an extension of another 180 days at an additional cost.

On the other hand, Japan’s digital nomad visa allows remote workers to stay in the country for up to 180 days, applicable to 49 countries and territories, including EU member states. South Korea’s unique Workation Visa allows employees to stay in the country for up to one year, with the possibility of extending the stay by another year.
