A Thai airline has been named one of the most punctual in the world

Thai AirAsia makes the top 10 ‘Best Punctuality’ rankings for the Asia-Pacific region, making it one of the most punctual airlines in the world. Here’s a closer look at the list.

Cirium, a UK-based aviation analytics firm, has compiled its annual list of the most punctual airlines across the Asia-Pacific with the best punctuality rankings in 2024. The results are based on the regions served by the airlines, and the number of passengers served in a typical year. Further, a grace period of 14:59 minutes was considered for the scheduled arrival or departure time of a specific flight. The punctuality scores are based on the percentage of flights of a certain airline that arrived within this grace period.

Nippon Airways topped as the most punctual airline in 2024, moving up one spot from 2023. Japan Airlines, which was at the top in 2023, is now in second place, while Singapore Airlines follows closely behind.

Punctuality rankings: Which airlines guarantee your on-time arrival?

Singapore Airlines has made a remarkable recovery from 2023, moving up to third place from seventh last year. Air New Zealand jumped up a place from fifth position in 2023 to fourth in 2024. Thai AirAsia slipped two places from 2023, diving to the fifth position in 2024. Vietnam Airlines jumped up from ninth place in 2023 to sixth place in 2024, while Phillippine Airlines jumped up from eighth position in 2023 to seventh place in 2024.

Garuda Indonesia dived from the sixth position in 2023 to the eighth position in 2024. Cathay Pacific jumped up a place from the tenth position in 2023 to ninth place in 2024, despite its on-time performance dropping by a couple of points. Lastly, IndiGo slipped from the top ten list completely, with new entrant Qantas Airways taking up the tenth place in 2024. Interestingly, IndiGo was in the fourth place in 2023.

In the global rankings, the top performers were Aeromexico, Saudia Airlines and Delta Air Lines, in this order. Cirium revealed the most on-time international airports as well, with Saudi Arabia’s Riyadh King Khalid International Airport in first place, Lima Jorge Chavez International Airport in Peru in second place, and Mexico City’s Benito Juarez International Airport in third position.
