Here’s how to ride the Squid Game-themed MRT train in Kuala Lumpur.
The second season of the South Korean Netflix series Squid Game has once again proven its ability to capture the attention of audiences worldwide, raking in an astounding 126.2 million views in just 11 days since its debut. This is to say that once again, the world is enraptured in Squid Game fever, including Kuala Lumpur and apparently its MRT train system.
In an unexpected collaboration with the local public transport authorities, Netflix Malaysia unveiled a brand-new Squid Game-themed livery to be displayed on a travelling MRT train that will be deployed along the Putrajaya line.
How to ride the Squid Game MRT train roaming Kuala Lumpur
The aptly named Squid Game train is part of a larger takeover encompassing both the Ampang Park MRT station and the TRX MRT Station, both of which have been similarly kitted out with stickers that reference key locations from the show including the now famed running track. The former’s adjacent skate park has also been transformed into a makeshift Red Light, Green Light arena complete with a full-sized, fully functioning Young-hee doll.
One of several similar activations happening across the globe including in Singapore, India, Paris, and even New York, Malaysia’s version even features our very own Recruiter, who will roam the TRX Station in search of willing participants for a game of ddakji. Sadly, the role won’t be reprised by fan-favourite, Gong Yoo, but we’ll make do.
While today will be the very last day you get to take a photo with Young-hee at Ampang Park, the Squid Game MRT train will still be roaming the Putrajaya Line on the following designated dates:
- 18th to 19th January 2025
- 25th to 26th January 2025
All you have to do is simply keep an eye out for it on Platform 4 of The Tun Razak Exchange MRT Station on the designated dates between 10am to 10.10am, as well as 4pm to 4.10pm.
Taking after the exploits of Player 456, otherwise known as Gi-hun, Squid Game season 2 takes fans on a path of vengeance as the reformed gambler and sole winner of the last games attempts to stop the mysterious organisation bankrolling the event by taking down its core leadership behind the scenes.
Returning faces include Gong Yoo, Lee Byung-hun, and Wi Ha-jun, all of whom reprised their original roles, while a new cast of characters join the fray, played by the likes of BIGBANG rapper T.O.P, Park Sung-hoon, Kang Ae-shim, as well as Lee Jin-wook, among others.
All episodes of Squid Game season 2 are available to stream on Netflix.
