The best beaches in Samui to beach-hop on your next visit

Koh Samui and beautiful beaches are almost synonyms at this point. So, get in, loser, we’re going beach-hopping. Here are some of the best beaches in Samui you shouldn’t miss.

Koh Samui has so many beaches, and they all offer something unique in their own way. Whether you’re in the mood for some R&R — cracking open your favourite book and getting a tan — or want some activities ticked off your bucket list, there’s something for everyone. Not everybody wants to be in the middle of a party all the time, though we have you covered if you want that to be the case. As the world turns to Samui for the premiere of The White Lotus Season 3, here are the beaches in Samui to pop into your itinerary.

Lamai Beach

Lamai is the getaway experience you dream of when you’re planning a trip. The turquoise blue sea is perfect for swimming, the atmosphere is relatively calm and inviting during the day, and the beach is 4km long, making it perfect for walks. Plus, there’s the Lamai Night Market that opens until midnight, along with a number of restaurants and nightlife options nearby, making Lamai Beach a great day-till-night destination.

Chaweng Beach

Chaweng is certainly one of the most popular beaches in Samui for a variety of reasons. It’s very close to the airport (around 10 minutes). It’s the longest beach in Samui, and it’s beautiful and warm all year round. It’s also famous for the abundance of nightlife options, especially on the northern end of the beach. There is also a plethora of hotels to stay in. If you’re looking for a quiet experience, this may not the beach you’re looking for. If you’re craving high-energy beach vibes, this is one of the more popular places, despite the higher prices, compared to other Samui beaches.

Crystal Beach

Also referred to as “Silver Beach” and “Crystal Bay,” this beach lies in a little bay area with crystal-clear waters and soft sand that shimmers like silver under the sun. With picture-perfect surroundings of the greenery and granite rocks, and the calm sea great for swimming, some mum with a blog is sure to call it a “secret of Thailand” or something. There are a few accommodations by the beach you can take advantage of, and many activities that will elevate your vacation, including beachfront yoga and boat tours.

Bo Phut Beach

If you’re looking for a calming ambiance to relax in like Crystal Beach, but craving the Samui nightlife like when you hit Chaweng Beach, Bo Phut is the perfect middle ground where you get the best of both worlds. Apart from the long walks on the beach, you can visit the bustling Fisherman’s Village, which is a hub of the best things to do in Samui. You’ll find a lot of restaurants, bars, clubs, and even a walking street filled with street food and little trinkets to buy as souvenirs.

Choeng Mon Beach

Located on the northeastern coast of Koh Samui, Choeng Mon features a quiet, serene beach atmosphere and food options on the sandy beach, making it a great option for those who want to lay back and relax. Due to the shallow water at the shore, the location makes for a lovely day out for those with children, and the ones that don’t have any, can rent out speedboats to go into deeper waters. There are even eFoil rentals and Thai massages by the sea — something for everyone in the family.

Lipa Noi Beach

Located on the west coast, Lipa Noi Beach is in between two ferry ports connecting Koh Samui and the mainland. Despite that fact, this beach is generally considered to be more off the beaten track, with coconut plantations, flora and fauna being a natural border of the beach, and fewer number of tourists even during high season. If you’re looking for a more rural experience, there are also temples, rustic Thai restaurants, and a waterfall for those who enjoy hiking. It’s a great choice for those who enjoy the more quieter beaches in Samui.

Bang Po Beach

A not-so-well-kept secret of Samui is Bang Po, a small, secluded beach located in the north side of the island. The coconut trees swaying to the sea breeze and calm waters feel as if you’re on the cover of a travel magazine, and the ample amount of delicious food spots and cafes make for a great experience for those looking to escape the chaos and get in touch with the local scene. Other things to do in the area include kayaking, fishing, and going on hiking trails nearby with beautiful views of the beach.

Ban Tai Beach

Named after a nearby village of the same name, Ban Tai is a nice little beach in the north of the island, with only few resorts and restaurants around. The rockier surface in the water makes it not the best destination for swimming, but the coral reef spots off the coast makes it ideal for snorkelling. As this is one of the more peaceful beaches away from crowds, we recommend grabbing a good book, sinking into a lounge chair, and admire the gorgeous view of Koh Tao in the distance.
