Entering the boutique, visitors are instantly greeted by an exquisite interplay of light and shadow. Conceived in collaboration with Sher Maker Studio, a Thai architectural studio, every inch of this space has been thoughtfully curated to reflect the essence of local heritage while whispering the tales of modern Thai sophistication. From the scent to the interior design, every detail takes you on an immersive journey beyond the pursuit of skincare excellence.

Visitors are enveloped in a sanctuary of serenity, where the ambience hums with understated elegance and a tranquil aura that quiets the hustle and bustle of Bangkok. Within this intimate space lies the fragrance cabinet, a treasure trove where visitors can explore Aesop’s Eaux de Parfum fragrance collection. Bae Suzy’s 10-minute skincare routine to achieve glass skin https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/beauty-grooming/skin/bae-suzy-skincare-routine-and-favourite-beauty-products-for-glass-skin/ Sat, 23 Mar 2024 07:00:01 +0000 https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/?p=1916018

Bae Suzy’s simple yet effective 10-minute skincare routine will help you achieve spotless glass skin like hers.

South Korean heartthrob Bae Suzy, aka ‘Nation’s First Love’ is adored by K-pop and K-drama enthusiasts alike for her versatile performances and breathtaking beauty. She’s one of the Hallyu stars who have popularised the K-beauty craze with her flawless and glass-like complexion. Fans across the globe are curious to know how she manages to take such good care of her skin despite taxing schedules. Her ‘no makeup’ photos are a rage on the internet and rightly so. We’ve listed Suzy Bae’s skincare secrets that’ll help you achieve spotless glass skin like hers.

Whether she’s gracing the silver screen or billboards, making heads turn at fashion shows or just running everyday errands – Suzy Bae is always camera-ready with her natural, dewy glow. For those wondering, the Start-Up actress follows a really simple yet effective 10-minute skincare routine that promises a thoroughly cleansed face. Neither do you need any high-end products that’ll burn a hole in your pocket, nor do you have to spend loads of time to look like a perfectly glazed doughnut.

Follow Bae Suzy’s 10-minute skincare routine for glass skin

image credit: skuukzky/ InstagramThe Anna star follows a three-step 4-2-4 facial cleansing method. This method involves a specific sequence of steps that ensure a deep and effective cleanse, ensuring that your face is free of cosmetic residue, dirt, grime, and oil. This gentle yet thorough approach to skincare will give you the supple and hydrated skin of your dreams.

The 10-minute routine consists of four minutes of massaging oil all over the face, followed by two minutes of foaming cleanser, and then rinsing with water for four minutes. Without much ado, let’s dive into the details.

Step 1: Four minutes of oil cleansing

Oil cleansing is undoubtedly the best way to achieve clearer and healthier skin. While we’re often told to avoid oil on our faces, various research highlights the benefits of oils for the skin. You’ll find many well-known brands now include oil cleansers in their product lineups to remove makeup, gently soothe sensitive skin and avoid breakouts.

Throughout the day, our skin accumulates makeup, dirt, excess sebum environmental pollutants and whatnot, that lead to breakouts, clog pores and take away the face’s natural sheen. Oil cleansers work on the ‘like dissolves like’ mantra, which means that they can dissolve and remove these oil-based impurities much better than any water-based counterpart.

Use any oil cleanser of your choice, and then use your fingers to massage the whole face in a circular and upward motion to remove the makeup. Four minutes of deep oil cleansing ensures that the most rigid products like eyeliner, mascara and foundation are neatly removed.

Step 2: Two minutes of foam cleansing

While oil cleansing may have helped you get rid of that excess makeup, it’s not enough on its own. You must follow it up with a gentle foam cleanser that reaches your pores more easily, leaving you with squeaky-clean skin. While foam cleansers are still used by those with oily or combination skin, modern foam cleansing products are formulated to be less stripping and drying which makes them suitable for every skin type. We recommend using a cleanser that not only ‘foams’ up but is rich in natural ingredients that bring more to the table than bubbles.

Simply add a dollop of the product on your hand and add some water to make a lathery mix. Apply it evenly to your face and massage in upward circles, making sure to cover each area. A two-minute massage is more than enough to get a clean and refreshing palette.

Step 3: Four minutes of rinsing the face with lukewarm water

If you thought that you’ve saved time by simply rinsing your face quickly, think again. Rinsing is an essential yet often-overlooked step in a skincare routine, but Suzy has got it right. The star makes sure to rinse her face with lukewarm water, ridding your face of any leftover chemicals and ensuring it is fully hydrated.

Moisturiser

For Suzy Bae, hydration is key to her famous glass skin. The former Miss A member has stated in multiple interviews that she uses various moisturising products to get that supple, baby-smooth skin. She uses a moisturiser infused with SPF that works against UV damage, prevents wrinkles and fine lines. The actress also uses a hydrating cream at night to deeply nourish her skin.

Sheet Masks

On days when Suzy feels like pampering herself a little more, she simply adds one of these Korean sheet masks to her skincare routine. Drenched in serum, these masks are the quickest and easiest way to give your skin an instant glow. Sheet masks aren’t a long-term fix for your skin woes, but only a short-term solution for minor skincare issues like inflammation, redness, or dryness. They won’t give you a miraculous overnight transformation and its effects will likely wear off the next day when your skin is exposed to the elements. Most sheet masks should be used about once a week.

Lightweight BB cream

For flawless base makeup, Suzy lathers her face with a lightweight BB cream. According to reports, she religiously used it while filming the Korean drama Vagabond. According to Maccaron, she mixes her foundation/ BB cream with a drop of multi-use serum. This trick helps in better absorption of makeup and gives a healthier glow.

While having a skincare routine is essential, don’t forget to work on that glow from within. Make sure to drink plenty of water, get enough sleep and eat a healthy diet to maintain that flawless complexion.

The weather in Bangkok has been unpredictable lately. Some days it’s hot, other days it’s windy, but every day it’s polluted to the point where you can’t tell if it’s going to rain or if it’s just pollution. Due to the dusty air, my skin has become irritated with tiny red, itchy bumps on my cheeks. I hope I’m not the only one experiencing this. However, I’ve found a solution to my problem. I’d heard a lot about the La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume B5+ on TikTok, but I hadn’t tried it until now. Surprisingly, this product reduced redness and itchiness in just one day. It’s also very moisturising. – Tipapa Chandarasrivongs, Content Writer

Director Denis Villeneuve’s blockbuster movie, Dune, is back with part two. The story revolves around a cosmic struggle between religions, philosophies, and beliefs, with Timothée Chalamet playing the main character, Paul Atreides. The cast includes Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, and new actors Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, and Léa Seydoux.

K-pop powerhouse IU’s skincare routine to achieve that glass skin https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/beauty-grooming/skin/korean-star-iu-skincare-routine-and-beauty-tips-for-glass-skin/ Wed, 21 Feb 2024 00:00:00 +0000 https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/?p=1912450

Apart from being out favourite vowels, IU never fails to shine as she goes on stage. Let’s see her skincare routine and how she achieves that skin.

Shining bright in the South Korean entertainment scene, IU aka Lee Ji-eun has etched a spot in our hearts with her immaculate talent and beauty. Not only is she a sought-after name in showbiz, but also in the beauty market where numerous brands want to cash in on her phenomenal, plump, glass-like skin. If you’re a K-drama fan, you must’ve noticed how stunning her skin appears even in extreme close-up shots. If you’ve been wanting to try out Korean beauty and skincare for a while, here’s your sign. Let’s take you through IU’s skincare routine that’ll help you achieve smooth porcelain skin like the Hallyu star.

Landing on the cover of South Korea’s most notable magazines, campaigning for top-tier luxury brands, and looking your best self in front of the camera – celebrities like IU have to take extra care of their well-being. Don’t worry, you won’t have to indulge in a gruelling self-pampering session as IU’s skincare is quite simple and uncomplicated. Her skincare mantra? Stick to the basics. Our guide will take you through her beauty rituals and the skincare products she swears by on an everyday basis. Keep reading.

Skincare tips and tricks to steal from K-pop star IU

IU has three holy grail skincare products. According to multiple reports, IU relies on sunscreen, toner, and a facial oil/moisturiser. Additionally, she uses a hero product, a highly concentrated serum recommended by her makeup artist. Keep reading to know the details:

Hydrating and repairing serum

In an earlier interview with CNP, IU revealed that she religiously uses the CNP Propolis Energy Ampoule, which fits her skin just right. The soothing and repairing serum has been ultra-popular in Korea for years. It contains concentrated Propolis Extract, with excellent antioxidant and moisturising properties to revitalise the skin. With Hyaluronic Acid as its main ingredient, the serum ensures your skin remains firm and glimmering.

Application: Use 3-4 drops of the product, apply evenly to the entire face, and gently pat in for full absorption. Do it as the first step of skincare after toner. For extra hydration, you can reapply it during the day.

Sunscreen

A post shared by 이지금 IU (@dlwlrma)

Wearing sunscreen isn’t just a suggestion, it’s a requirement for healthy skin. By acting like a shield against the harsh sun and free radicals, sunscreen prevents sunburn, reduces the risk of skin cancer, prevents premature ageing, improves skin texture, lessens hyperpigmentation, prevents melasma sunspots and much more. With so many advantages packed in a single product, why would you not use it?

Tips to choose a sunscreen: The most important thing when choosing a sunscreen is checking the level of SPF. An SPF of 30 or more ensures that your skin is completely protected: whether indoors or outdoors, sunny or cloudy. Moreover, always choose a product with ‘broad spectrum’ coverage.

Facial oil

IU skincare routine

Rich in hydrating and nourishing properties, facial oils have become the latest skincare fad. IU loves a concoction of facial oils and hydrating toners to recover her skin from dryness. She is known to mix two drops of facial oil and toner on a cotton pad, gently patting this mix on her face for a couple of minutes so that the skin nicely absorbs all the product goodness. Whether it’s improving your skin texture or preventing signs of ageing – facial oils aid it all. They should ideally be layered after serums but before heavy creams or moisturisers.

Toner

IU skincare routine

IU never skips out on toner. And why would she? Toner has so many advantages packed into one: it infuses skin with nutrients, balances pH, brightens tone, minimises the appearance of enlarged pores as well as boosts hydration. Use a toner after cleaning your face with a facewash to pull out the stubborn makeup residue, dead skin cells and grime from the pores. By deeply removing the oil and dirt and giving you freshly cleansed skin, toner makes the absorption of other skin care products easy.

Tips to choose a toner: Always pick toners which have skin-friendly ingredients. A lot of toners in the market are infused with alcohol, which can dry out or stretch your skin. Therefore, check the formulation before making the splurge.

Drinking plenty of water

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by 이지금 IU (@dlwlrma)

Do we even need to elaborate on this one? Despite using the best products and being consistent with your skincare routine, your skin won’t improve until your body is free from toxins within. Always running from sets to performances to shoots, IU makes sure to keep her body hydrated by drinking water every now and then.

Water not just affects your physical functioning, but cognitive health as well. According to Healthline, multiple studies have shown that even mild dehydration, such as the loss of 1–3% of body weight, can impair many aspects of brain function. Furthermore, hydration helps prevent and treat headaches, relieve constipation, clear kidney stones, prevent hangovers, aid in weight loss and a lot more.

IU’s skincare routine will give you the flawless glow of your dreams.

In the era of post-pandemic hygiene evolution, men are diving into the world of ‘Skinification,’ where personal care transcends mere cleanliness. This 2024 trend extends the magic of skincare beyond the face, encompassing hair, nails, hands and even fragrance. It also means replenishing your body from the inside out and focusing on clean eating; Meaning more liquid detox and greens.

Skinification blends trusted skincare ingredients like hyaluronic acid, squalane oil, vitamin C, retinol, etc. into their haircare, nail care and grooming routines, making it a holistic experience. It’s not just about looking good, it’s about feeling good from within, head to toe.

With aesthetic treatment for men gaining momentum, ‘brotox’ is becoming the buzzword in 2024. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the number of men seeking botox treatment has risen by a massive 355 per cent in the last 15 years.

This technique involves microdose injections of botulinum toxin to prevent expression line formation in areas like the brow, forehead and crow’s feet. Additionally, other aesthetic procedures for men becoming popular include laser resurfacing for acne and addressing dark spots and marks.

4. Buttox: Butt hair removal

The spotlight is on the posterior in 2024 for men, whether it is working on a bubble butt in the gym or getting rid of the hair from the unmentionables. Yes, even heterosexual cis men are embracing various techniques such as depilatory creams, waxing, shaving machines and laser hair removal to get rid of the hair from their buttocks. Beyond butts, other areas like the shoulders, back, forehead and groin are also being considered for complete hair removal.

This trend not only is proof of the changing grooming habits of men but also presents a significant opportunity for brands to come up with innovative grooming products for men.

5. Body hair is out but armpit hair is in

While grooming trends like ‘brotox’ are gaining momentum, male models and celebs are growing underarm and chest hair, challenging conventional grooming standards. This trend signals a departure from the smooth and polished look, with celebrities like Troye Sivan proudly showcasing their authentic masculinity.

Rather than conforming to societal expectations, men are confidently embracing their natural features, promoting a more genuine and inclusive standard of attractiveness. Some are even going to the extent of dyeing their armpit hair and we find it cool.

6. Wellness-integrated grooming: CBD and beyond

Grooming trends for men in 2024 are no longer just about aesthetics; it’s about well-being. Hence, CBD-infused creams and stress-relieving scents are gaining popularity. From face creams to shampoos, brands are tapping into the anti-inflammatory and anti-ageing properties of CBD.

This trend echoes men’s increasing interest in mental well-being, fostering open discussions on self-care. The healing power of scent is being harnessed for mental health, making grooming an essential part of holistic well-being practices.

7. Guyliner for dudes who love some kohl

From punk rock vibes to brooding teen heartthrobs, diverse styles cater to every personality. Experiment with your looks and witness this trend firsthand, adding a touch of self-expression to the male grooming landscape.

Each month, we’ll present you with a series of beauty products we’re very excited about, whether it be a newly-launched lipstick or a tried-and-tested sheet mask.

As the holiday season comes to an end, let’s kick start 2024 with a new beginning, prioritising our mental and physical well-being. And since it is the new year, this means trying new beauty products that will make you shine not only on the outside but on the inside, too.

Most of us have heard of the benefits of using retinoids. Whether it’s reducing acne outbreaks or increasing cell turnover, applying retinoids on your skin can give you a firmer, plumper look. And although this vitamin is known to cause some irritation, one product we recommend is the FYNE Retinoid Regenerating Serum. This serum contains no silicones, alcohol, fragrance, colourants, parabens, or mineral oils. The serum also uses encapsulation technology, which enhances the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by speeding up the renewal process of skin cells.

As we age, our lips lose collagen, and this lip filler in a tube by Dr Dennis Gross is the secret weapon to help repair those luscious lips. The lip treatment contains four molecular weights of hyaluronic acid and a peptide complex, which gives it a plumping effect. It also doesn’t burn as much as other lip plumpers, and the formula is super thin and lightweight. Wear this alone or with a lip liner; you’ll get hydrated, smooth, “freshly injected” lips.

Skincare playlist: The best songs for your skin, according to a recent study https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/culture/music/best-songs-for-your-skin-skincare-playlist/ Sun, 29 Oct 2023 01:00:56 +0000 https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/?p=1898890 best songs for skin

You may have perfected the product list for your skincare routine, but what about your skincare playlist? A recent study found the best songs for your skin. Have a read and a listen.

Now more than ever, natural beauty — and especially radiant skin — is the order of the day. But you need to be relaxed to look your best. With this in mind, a new study suggests that music could offer a helping hand in the quest for perfect skin.

Combatting stress for better skin: The best songs for your skin

skincare routine playlist

Stress can have harmful effects on the skin. The hormones it releases increase sebum production, contributing to the onset of blemishes and accelerating skin ageing. Stress also alters the skin’s complexion and barrier function, causing tightness, irritation and itching. Everything suggests that our skin suffers when we’re anxious, so it’s important to combat its effects if you want your skin to look its best.

And that’s where music might come in. A large number of studies have shown that music can have anxiety-busting effects. It may even reduce the subjective feeling of stress, by stimulating reward circuits. Certain slow-tempo melodies have a greater effect on the mind than others, making them potential allies in the quest for immaculate skin.

With this in mind, experts from the Beauty Pie brand set out to determine which songs might be most beneficial to our skin. To do so, they analyzed 1.4 million tracks hosted on Spotify, paying particular attention to those featuring on playlists containing, among other keywords, the terms “skincare”, “calm” and “wellness.” The result is a ranking of the 25 “most relaxing” tracks to listen to during your skincare routine.

SZA, a relaxing artist for your skin

Top of the list comes Ariana Grande’s “Moonlight.” This ballad, which features on the singer’s third album, “Dangerous Woman,” has a very slow rhythm. Dr. Michael Bonshor, professor of music psychology at the University of Sheffield (UK), claims that its soothing effect results from its tempo. “Ariana’s ‘Moonlight’ has 102 beats per minute if we listen for the 4 beats in a bar. However, if we focus on the stronger first and third beats in the bar, we ‘feel’ the music pace as two slow beats in every bar, giving us a restful 51 bpm,” he said in a statement.

SZA’s “Good Days” and Frank Ocean’s “Pink + White” take second and third place, respectively. R’n’B star Frank Ocean also appears in eleventh place, thanks to his introspective track “Lost.” But the artist dominating the list of most relaxing songs is none other than SZA. The American rapper alone occupies three different spots: second, fourth (with “Kill Bill”) and nineteenth (with “Normal Girl”).

Most of the musicians in this top 25 have made their name in recent years, with the exception of Norah Jones. The American singer launched her career in 2002 with the release of her debut album, “Come Away with Me.” But the song that earns her eighth place in this list of relaxing songs, “Sunrise,” comes from her second album, “Feels Like Home.” According to Dr Michael Bonshor, this track is particularly relaxing. “The repetitive melody evident in [Norah Jones’] ‘Sunrise,’ paired with soothing lyrics and steady rhythmic patterns, makes it a tune you can easily lean into,” the expert says.

Why the Valmont V-Firm collection should be on your radar for anti-ageing skincare https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/beauty-grooming/valmont-v-firm-collection-anti-ageing-restore-youth/ Fri, 27 Oct 2023 13:39:04 +0000 https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/?p=1898956

If you want glowing, plump, youthful skin, you must check out the Valmont V-Firm collection.

A luxury cosmetic brand that everyone should have on their radar is Valmont. Established in 1985, this Swiss skincare company is out of the ordinary, as its products use science-driven formulas to help combat external signs of ageing. With that, the brand has gained much recognition for producing ground-breaking cosmetics that deliver powerful and noticeable results. The V-Firm collection is one of them.

[All images courtesy of Valmont]

All about the Valmont V-Firm collection

Valmont’s V-Firm collection uses cutting-edge cellular cosmetic research to provide the skin with bounce, density, and firmness. This line comes with three high-performance products — a serum, a cream, and an eye cream — that work phenomenally to restore one’s youth. Although that may sound too good to be true, the secret behind this effective line lies in its biocompatibility and bioavailability. This means the formulas make one with the skin— penetrating deeply and reaching the correct cellular targets.

V-Firm serum

The V-Firm serum is ideal for sagging skin as it helps restore lost volume and improves the skin’s elasticity. It uses active ingredients like a peptide cocktail, which aids in collagen production. It has other elements like whey, density complex, triple DNA, and RNA liposome that help revitalise, heal, and stimulate the skin. With just one pump, the serum instantly melts into the face, leaving it with a nice velvety finish.

V-Firm cream

The V-Firm cream reinforces the skin’s natural barrier, making the face appear firmer and sharper. The active ingredients are similar to the serum, but this face cream also contains squalane. Squalane helps with strengthening the skin’s natural barrier and protects against oxidation.

V-Firm eye

The V-Firm eye cream is legendary, especially for those with drooping eyelids, sunken eyes, and dark circles. It has active ingredients like the peptide cocktail, density complex, high-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid, DNA liposome, and RNA liposome. These elements aid in skin hydration, tone, and elasticity, as well as strengthening the intercellular cement. It also has a golden honey gel-like texture.

Valmont V-Firm products are available at Paris Spa Alma Link: 02-651-4081, Paris Beauty Salon Mandarin Oriental Hotel: 02-634-7132, and Central Chidlom Ground Floor.

BTS’ RM skincare routine to achieve that radiant glow https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/beauty-grooming/skin/bts-rm-skincare-routine-to-achieve-a-spotless-glow/ Sat, 21 Oct 2023 12:49:21 +0000 https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/?p=1898145

BTS’ RM abides by an easy-to-emulate skincare routine that keeps his skin smooth and supple like butter. Keep reading to learn more.

When it comes to maintaining spotless, butter-smooth skin, nobody does it better than K-pop idols! The BTS septet, in particular, boasts flawless faces, always looking gorgeous on the go. From red-carpet outings, concerts/ tours, and photoshoots to even unfiltered live sessions – the Bangtan Boys’ enviable glow never fades. While K-pop prodigies are blessed with great genes, they also religiously follow a skincare routine to keep their porcelain skin in check. BTS leader and Rap Monster RM is one member who often garners attention for his spotless skin, leaving ARMY intrigued about what really goes into maintaining it. If you’re also in awe of RM’s skin, let’s take you through the BTS member’s skincare routine!

In a previous conversation with Allure, RM revealed that he suffers from dry and acne-prone skin, so having a skincare routine is supremely important for him. From relying heavily on moisturisers to trusting sheet masks to unwind after a long work day, BTS’ RM abides by an easy-to-emulate skincare routine that keeps his skin smooth and supple. Keep reading!

BTS’ RM follows these skincare practices for a radiant glow

A moisturiser to combat skin’s dryness

RM highlighted that since he suffers from dry skin, it’s pertinent to keep it hydrated with a good moisturiser. Using the right kind of moisturiser based on your skin type helps maintain a healthy balance, keeping extreme dryness or extreme oiliness at bay. Both of these extremes cause the skin to breakout/ become acne prone.

Regular moisturising also conceals and camouflages the skin’s blemishes, while some tinted moisturisers additionally even out your skin tone and make it look more supple. According to the British Journal of Dermatology, those with properly moisturised skin get wrinkles at a much lesser rate than others with dry skin. So, if you want to delay the signs of ageing and enjoy younger-looking skin, you know what to do!

While RM didn’t reveal his go-to moisturising product, here are some hydration heavy-hitters that’ll do the job for you. These include the Vanicream Daily Face Moisturiser, CETAPHIL Daily Hydrating Lotion, CeraVe Daily Moisturizing Lotion for Dry Skin as well as Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream.

Hydrating essence to revitalise the skin

RM once revealed that he swears by the ‘HERA Homme Essence In Skin’ to achieve smooth skin. According to Soompi, the rapper added, “I like the refreshing scent and the fact that it doesn’t feel sticky on my skin. It’s really cool because I can maintain perfect skin with one product.”

So, what is skin essence? It’s essentially a water-based skincare product that you should apply on clean skin directly after cleansing. A Korean skincare staple, essences have many active ingredients that hydrate the skin’s cells. They also act as a protective barrier from external agents as well as help in the better absorption of other skincare products. You should ideally follow up the essence with thicker products like a moisturiser or sunscreen.

Coming back to RM’s favourite ‘HERA Homme Essence In Skin’, the product promises to boost the skin’s natural strength by treating excess sebum, pores, dry skin, skin tone and wrinkles. It also contains caffeine, a special hydrating ingredient that works wonders for men’s skin by strengthening their skin barrier.

Therapy cream to strengthen and replenish skin’s moisture barrier

According to UNNIE Looks, RM loves to apply a therapy cream before going to bed as it helps his skin feel relaxed and healthy. A therapy cream is another product to combat extremely dry and flaky skin with deep moisturisation. These creams have some active compounds and chemicals to treat certain skin conditions like dryness, redness, acne, eczema and hyperpigmentation.

Some of the well-known therapy creams include The Skin Story Intense Relief Therapy Cream and Physiogel Daily Moisture Therapy Face Moisturizer. Even The Face Shop’s Therapy Royal Made Oil Blending Cream works perfectly.

Sheet masks to unwind after a long day of work

bts rm skincare secrets

In the same conversation with Allure, Kim Namjoon mentioned that one of his favourite skincare brands, Mediheal, has a variety of sheet masks that’ll refresh your skin after a gruelling day. Korean sheet masks have already gained immense popularity in the beauty world, and the BTS members also use them religiously.

Sheet masks are immersed with essential nutrition-packed serums that offer a heavy dose of hydration to your face. Your skin is subjected to grime, sebum, sweat, makeup and more toxins that penetrate deep into the skin and clog pores. A replenishing, detoxifying sheet mask helps unclog these pores by removing many pollutants. Sheet masks can be used either in the morning or at night depending on your convenience. However, one should ideally apply it after cleansing. There’s a sheet mask tailor-made for every skin problem, whether brightening or hydrating the skin, controlling acne and ageing, or detoxifying it.

Lip balm to soothe and heal chapped lips

K-pop idols put on heavy lip products on most days owing to their professional commitments, which results in chapped lips. Therefore, including a hydrating lip balm in their skincare vanity goes a long way. BTS’ RM trusts lip balms to keep his lips supple irrespective of the season.

Apart from hydrating the lips, balms leave a subtle tint that brings a flush of colour to the face. If you apply lip products regularly, it’s even more important to first hydrate your lips with a balm. Lastly and most importantly, lip balms infused with SPF protect your lips from harsh UV rays, keeping hyperpigmentation and sun damage at bay.

Sunscreen for protection against UV rays

If you’ve been following BTS, you’ll know that the one product all boys sacredly use is sunscreen. By protecting the skin from harmful UV rays, sunscreen ultimately prevents signs of ageing. It also lowers the risk of skin cancer, keeps tanning and sunburn at bay as well as lowers the blotchiness on the face.

While it’s a widespread myth that you only need sunscreen if you’re exposed to the sun, the reality is you need to lather your skin with SPF irrespective of whether you’re indoors or outdoors. Use sunscreen on your face, neck, chest, ears, hands, and arms daily to prevent long-term sun damage. According to Healthline, you should look for an SPF 30+ sunscreen and apply it every two hours when you’re outdoors. It’s also recommended that you use a mineral-based sunscreen as it offers protection against a wider spectrum than chemical ones.

We hope the skincare rituals of BTS’ RM reap great benefits for you as well!

Want skin that glows like BLACKPINK’s Rosé? Here’s her go-to skincare routine https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/beauty-grooming/skin/blackpink-rose-skincare-routine/ Sat, 30 Sep 2023 09:26:45 +0000 https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/?p=1895152

K-pop idols always fascinate their fans with their flawlessly gorgeous skin. Despite their packed world tour schedules and endless rehearsal sessions, their skin appears unaffected and still radiating with vitality.  One such K-pop idol who flaunts an enviable luminous complexion we can’t get enough of is BLACKPINK’s Rosé. So what is Rosé’s go-to skincare regime?

No wonder luxury frontrunners like Saint Laurent and Tiffany & Co. tapped Rosé as their global brand ambassador, with the singer gracing their campaigns with her radiant appearance. It’s no secret that she’s very diligent about her skincare routine, religiously following everything from cleansing, toning and moisturising, in addition to making sure that the results are complemented by a healthy lifestyle. If you want to ace your skincare game, Rosé-style, let’s take you through her self-care routine.

What is BLACKPINK Rosé’s skincare routine?

1. Oil cleanser to get rid of makeup

Makeup-free days are a rarity for K-pop idols, with their skin being exposed to various chemicals and pollutants that dull its sheen. So what’s the best way to take the day off? An oil-based cleanser that effortlessly removes even your waterproof makeup. According to UNNIE LOOKS, Rosé also swears by an oil cleanser to kick off her skincare routine. She also uses it on makeup-free days to make sure the skin’s free of any dirt and sebum that mounts up during the course of the day. Oil cleansing is also great as the oil acts as a barrier to protect your skin, keeping it supple and moisturised.

A lot of people who follow K-beauty abide by this gentle oil cleansing technique. Oil can remove oil-free, oil-based, and waterproof formulas from your skin and lashes. It helps keep skin infections like acne at bay, protects against inflammation, eases the effects of ageing and even clears out blackheads and whiteheads.

2. Foaming face wash for double cleansing

A post shared by ROSÉ (@roses_are_rosie)

To doubly ensure that the face is clear of any makeup remnants or dirt, the BLACKPINK singer lathers it with her favourite foaming cleanser, the Senka Speedy Perfect Whip. Its lightweight formula is very gentle on the skin, giving it a soft and supple touch.

Foaming cleansers work best for people with oily and acne-prone skin, as their main purpose is to eliminate excess oil or sebum. These cleansers also have hydrating agents like hyaluronic acid and amino acids that don’t strip the skin of its natural oils. Foaming cleanser is fab to use both in the morning and night because it won’t dry out that baby-smooth skin of yours!

3.  Emulsion for a nourished skin

For those of you who don’t know, an emulsion is a lighter (and more watery)version of a conventional moisturiser or a face cream. Emulsions are an important skincare staple in K-beauty to achieve supple and glowing skin. While it’s not a compelling choice for everyone, many people still opt for it to get that additional layer of hydration and nutrients.

As for Rosé, she uses the ‘IOPE Plant Stem Cell Emulsion Skin Perfection’. This gel-like, anti-ageing emulsion claims to strengthen the skin’s moisture barrier and replenish it. Its plant stem cell formula improves the skin’s natural brightness.

4. Activating serum to enhance the skin’s overall texture

A post shared by ROSÉ (@roses_are_rosie)

The Pink Venom singer never skips using her holy-grail product, Sulwhasoo’s First Care Activating Serum. One of the most sought-after brands in South Korea, Sulwhasoo holds a special place in Rosé’s skincare kit as she grew up watching her mother use the product. It helps strengthen the skin’s barrier and addresses pre-mature visible signs of ageing.

Serums are highly concentrated skincare solutions that deeply penetrate into the skin to treat issues like fine lines, wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, acne, dryness or dullness. Because of higher chemical concentrations, they tackle skin issues more effectively than other products.

buy Sulwhasoo's First Care Activating Serum here

5. Moisturiser to lock in the hydration

What’s the point of using all the aforementioned nourishing agents if you haven’t locked them into your skin with a moisturiser? The singer prefers a lightweight moisturiser that provides hydration without being too heavy on the skin. Choosing the right moisturiser based on your skin type and the weather is key to achieving a glowy base. If you have oily skin, it’s recommended you opt for lotions while those having dry skin should go for creams as they have higher oil content.

Apart from hydrating your face, moisturisers prevent fine lines and wrinkles by making the skin plump and firm. Moreover, most moisturisers today are infused with SPF, which means they double up as sunscreen to protect you from its harmful rays. Use a moisturiser in your morning as well as night skincare routine for best results.

6. Sunscreen to shield the skin from UV rays

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by ROSÉ (@roses_are_rosie)

Easiest way to protect your skin’s appearance and health at any age? Don’t forget your regular dose of SPF! You have to apply sunscreen irrespective of whether you’re outdoors/ indoors and even irrespective of any season. Try to use a broad-spectrum sunscreen that protects you from both UVB and UVA rays. For everyday use, use sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or more. For days when you’ve to venture outdoors, choose a product with SPF 60 or greater.

Sunscreen should be liberally applied not just on your face, but literally all the exposed skin including the neck, hands, legs and more. Sunscreens are available in different formulas, so make sure you select one according to your skin type.

7. Body lotion for silky smooth skin that extends beyond the face

Just like your face, the rest of your body also needs a dose of hydration. Rosé reportedly uses the Body Fantasies Signature Peach Apricot lotion, owing to her inclination towards fruity scents. Body lotions help you steer clear of those not-so-appealing-to-the-eye rough elbows and heels, making your skin glow!

While all Korean stars boast radiant skin, the ones who have grabbed worldwide attention for their stunning visuals are BTS. The septet’s Kim Taehyung aka V is undoubtedly one of the most handsome musicians out there, who’s known for religiously abiding by a skincare routine despite hectic and packed schedules. Kim Taehyung follows an easy-to-emulate, surprisingly simple skincare routine we should all take note of!

From back-to-back live performances, album recordings, brand shoots, and travelling around the globe among the endless list of commitments, BTS members often suffer from dull and tired skin and the boys have been quite vocal about their skincare woes.

So, what are Kim Taehyung’s skincare concerns?

V hasn’t shied away from talking about his occasional bouts of breakouts and lack of skin elasticity that keeps him worried! In a conversation with Allure, V mentioned that his skin becomes dry and oily relatively fast. The Winter Bear singer also added that he lathers his skin with toner and moisturiser during flights, making sure it’s well-hydrated! Well, many of us can relate to V, isn’t it? But despite all this, how has he managed to maintain a spotless glow? Keep reading to find out!

According to Sportskeeda, V follows the simple yet effective CTM (cleansing, toning, moisturising) method to get a gleaming skin. While the singer uses only a few skincare products, he applies them mindfully and makes sure they’re spread evenly across the hard-to-reach corners as well. Let’s look at his skincare routine in detail:

1. Cleanser to wash away all impurities

Cleansing is probably the most important part of your skincare routine as it deeply cleans your face, ridding it of all the excess dirt, makeup, and impurities you’ve encountered throughout the day. K-beauty also puts a lot of emphasis on proper cleansing for blemish-free skin, and one should ideally wash their face twice a day for the best results. Taehyung uses a foaming cleanser, which is very soothing on the face and removes excessive oil and makeup without irritating the skin.

The removal of dirt and grime from your face is also important for other products to seep into your skin properly. Additionally, cleansing on a routine basis with gentle products boosts the skin’s hydration levels, helps maintain proper pore size and boosts skin regeneration which makes you look younger. Also, it’s very important to choose a cleanser based on your skin type!

2. Toner for deep cleansing of any residual

Simply put, toner is used to gently refresh your skin without stripping it of its natural moisture. It serves as a deep cleanser, removing all the dirt or makeup remnants a cleanser might’ve missed. Kim Taehyung is very careful with his toner application, with his dermatologist suggesting he applies it with a cotton pad instead of his fingers. He gently taps it across his face rather than aggressively wiping it off.

The lightweight, water-based solution effectively minimises the appearance of pores and tightens the skin. Toner further balances your skin after cleansing, keeping it from feeling too dry or tight. It hydrates, refreshes and soothes your skin, creating a clean palette for moisturisers to penetrate deeper.

3. Face cream/ moisturiser for a flush of hydration

BTS V skincare

Is there anything a good moisturiser can’t do? From preventing dryness, slowing the signs of ageing, and fighting acne to protecting from the sun and soothing sensitive skin – the product is game-changing!

BTS’ V sticks to only one moisturiser, using it liberally all over his face. As mentioned earlier, the singer is very particular about how he applies each product. He nicely massages his face with face cream, which promotes blood circulation and ensures the skin stays supple and bouncy. Interestingly the singer moisturises his ears as well, something we clearly didn’t know we should be doing!

It’s advisable to use a separate cream during the day and another at night based on your skin type. Day and night creams differ in what they’re supposed to do to your skin. While night creams usually repair your skin by deeply penetrating into it overnight, day creams provide protection from outside elements.

4. Hand cream to keep hands protected and well-hydrated

Just like our face, our hands also need a dose of moisturisation, given our perpetual handwashing and sanitising habits that leave them dry and dehydrated. The skin on top of our hands has fewer sebaceous glands, which makes it dry and age faster. Additionally, exposure to sun, water, and pollution leads to pigmentation, wrinkles as well as thinning of the skin. Hand creams help repair this damaged and cracked skin by infusing moisture into the hands.

V carefully administers hand cream into the spaces between his fingers, while going a little extra and applying it on his cuticles as well. These areas, which we often tend to overlook, help keep hangnails at bay!

5. Lip balm to break free from chapped lips

kim taehyung skincare

Seal your lips with a lip balm, because chapped lips are just not cool! Taehyung applies it using his fingers so that the product reaches the corners a lip balm stick has trouble reaching.

Lip balm is one of your handbag staples, that goes way beyond serving your ‘pretty’ purpose. Especially since the skin on your lips is much more delicate as compared to your facial skin, it’s important to include a nourishing lip balm before the harsh weather conditions and chemical lip products leave your lips chapped, dull and dark. These balms restore the lip’s natural moisture and oils, brighten them and shed the dead skin cells. Make sure your lip balm is enriched with SPF for protection against the harmful rays of the sun.

Additionally, a lip balm can be applied on your nail bed to hydrate your cuticles and doubles up as a blush and a highlighter to give you a glowy base. Take it from us, K-pop celebrities religiously use balms and tints for plumper-looking and hydrated lips, and you should too!

Rounding up Kim Taehyung’s skincare is one very important lifestyle habit he swears by. V suggests drinking tons of water to not only keep your body hydrated but also maintain your skin’s elasticity. If your skin doesn’t get enough water, it’s likely to become dry, tight, and flaky as well as more prone to ageing.

Want a radiant glow like Taylor Swift? Try out her skincare and beauty tips https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/beauty-grooming/skin/taylor-swift-skincare-diet-and-beauty-tips/ Tue, 29 Aug 2023 08:00:48 +0000 https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/?p=1890661

With Karma as her boyfriend, we don’t know a better way to achieve that glow. Seems like there is more to Taylor Swift’s skincare routine than we thought.

We’re sure Taylor Swift’s always feeling 22. Apart from turning tides in the pop music scene, Tay Tay has caught our fancy with her youthful and fresh skin which sparkles even without makeup. The singer’s all about embracing your unfiltered self, shooting down the ‘aesthetic canon’ that women are supposed to live up to! At 33, the Bad Blood songstress is championing ageing with open arms, however, that doesn’t deter her from following some simple and easy skincare rituals as a part of regular grooming and self-care. Taylor Swift abides by the ‘less is more’ motto when it comes to skincare and beauty, which has indeed worked wonders for her!

From lathering her face with skincare must-haves like moisturiser and sunblock to sporting a classic red lip and cat-eye makeup look – Taylor’s go-to skincare and beauty rituals are super undemanding and hassle-free to emulate on a daily basis. If you want to ace the skincare and beauty game, Taylor Swift style, we’ve curated the perfect guide for you!

10 skincare and beauty secrets to steal from Taylor Swift

Taylor’s skincare secrets and diet plan

1. Daily dose of moisturisation before sleeping

Take note, girls! Taylor never fails to moisturise her skin before hitting the bed in addition to putting on a nice body lotion post-shower, multiple outlets reported. While moisturising your face during the day shields your skin from pollution, UV rays, dryness, cold, heat or any other weather condition, doing the process at night helps your skin regenerate. After all, your skin also needs some unwinding after a long day!

By rejuvenating your skin cells, moisturisation promotes a youthful complexion. Additionally, it controls oil production which lessens the chances of breakout. If you’re dealing with extremely sensitive, dull, dry skin devoid of lustre, it’s time to moisturise your skin at least twice a day. Moisturising creams seal the water inside the cell and repair the skin’s natural barrier. When there’s little or no water loss, the skin looks plump and smooth. To keep her skin healthy and beautiful, Taylor uses the Kate Somerville moisturiser.

Similarly, what moisturiser is to the face, body lotion is to the rest of the body. It encourages healthy skin cell proliferation and smoothes the skin. Taylor trusts the Body Shop Coconut Body Butter, to deal with dry skin.

2. Sunblock is a must

Taylor Swift never steps out without wearing sunscreen! It is the best and the easiest way to protect your skin’s health and appearance. Sunscreens are so important that they are infused in many cosmetics and beauty products from primers and foundations to serums and creams. Whether it’s a strikingly sunny day, a cloudy day or even a ‘lounging-on-my-bed’ kind of day don’t forget to apply sunblock as the notorious UV rays have all the means to reach you. The preventive skincare habit must be practised throughout the year, even during winter.

Forgoing protection despite repeated sun exposure leads to premature signs of ageing including discolouration, fine lines, wrinkles and leathery appearance. Not only should you apply sunblock every day, but reapply it every two hours if you’re outdoors. This way, you’ll reduce the risk of skin cancer, sunburn or inflammation.

So which sunscreen should you pick? While sunscreens come in very many specifications to accommodate various skin types, they should have a minimum SPF of 30 or higher to ensure full protection. Also, make sure it’s labelled ‘broad spectrum’, implying that it protects from both UVA (ultraviolet A radiation) and UVB (ultraviolet B radiation) rays.

3. Healthy diet to achieve that inner glow

Unlike many celebrities who heavily restrict themselves, Taylor’s a huge foodie and very passionate about cooking and eating. According to Boldsky, she doesn’t follow a strict diet plan, but still keeps it healthy! Starting the day with a heavy and delicious breakfast which includes buckwheat pancakes topped with ham, parmesan, and eggs, Taylor goes about the day with lighter meals. The outlet reported that she likes to devour salads, sandwiches, yoghurts, or vanilla lattes to satiate her hunger pangs. While her workweek is packed with healthy meals, the singer doesn’t shy away from giving in to her gluttony on the weekends.

The singer also advises that you must drink plenty of water to keep your body hydrated and flush out toxins, which gives your skin a natural radiance. She consumes at least ten bottles a day or more while travelling.

4. No sugar

Your body reflects what you eat, and Taylor takes this quite seriously. Rather than fuelling her body with caffeine, Taylor switches coffee for orange juice.

Apart from ailments like diabetes, obesity, and cardiovascular diseases, consuming excessive sugar can also harm your skin. How? Multiple studies have shown that excessive sugar promotes inflammation, acne, and increased sebum production which increases the likelihood of breakouts and dull skin as well as increases wrinkles and sagging.

5. Workouts to boost skin health

There’s nothing better than a gruelling workout session to attain radiant, flushed skin and Taylor Swift is proof. Exercising increases blood flow to all organs, flooding your skin cells with oxygen and nutrients that clear all impurities and you get that gorgeous post-workout glow. Working out also boosts collagen production, which not only blurs the appearance of wrinkles but prevents new ones from forming. Exercising is also a great way to reduce your stress levels as well as promote cell growth.

Taylor Swift’s go-to beauty tips

6. The classic red lip, but make it smudge-free

If you’re a Swiftie, you know Taylor hardly steps out without her trusted signature red-coloured lipstick. From concerts, red carpets and music videos to vacations – the singer’s always rocking the red lip. For keeping it smudge-free, Taylor follows a unique application. She puts a single layer followed by dabbing in the product with a tissue and repeating the process. She also makes sure the lipstick doesn’t transfer to her teeth, which can be really embarrassing! Following this, you can make your lipstick last longer.

7. A cat eye with her trusted liquid liner

taylor swift beauty guide

A magic wand for your eyes, liquid liners are a blessing that amps up your makeup like no other! Taylor loves to wear cat eye makeup, which gives her face a more snatched and lifted look. She effortlessly pulls it off using a liquid liner, which according to her is more accessible and practical. Taylor starts by simply extending the bottom lash line upward and connecting it with the upper liner.

8. Limited use of hair products

Have you noticed Taylor switching up her hair colour often? Likely, no! Despite celebrities having to constantly alter their hair colour and be exposed to heating tools for styling, Taylor avoids experimenting with hairstyles as much as she can. While she sported her naturally curly locks in the initial stages of her career, she now has a wavy hair texture that she likes to keep as it is for shows, music videos and other major events. On a bad hair day, she tucks her tresses into a sleek braid.

9. The ‘less is more’ mantra

Taylor’s not one to plaster her face with heavy makeup. According to Fabbon, her makeup essentials include mascara, liquid eyeliner, lipstick, natural brown eye shadows and a lash curler. As simple as that! Even when the artist’s experimenting with new looks, she never goes overboard. Applying many layers of makeup on a regular basis without prepping your skin properly can clog pores that result in acne. It can also accelerate premature ageing and make skin prone to allergies and dryness. It’s important to let your skin breathe and embrace make-up-free days!

10. Experimenting with new haircuts

Without putting her hair through chemical treatments or heat, Taylor spruces things up with fresh haircuts. From shoulder-length waves, and long bobs to side-swept bangs, blunt cut bangs and more, the singer has flaunted many haircuts over the years.

Mother is mothering: 6 forever young beauty tips from real mothers https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/beauty-grooming/wellness/forever-young-beauty-tips-from-mothers/ Tue, 15 Aug 2023 04:00:43 +0000 https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/?p=1888589

Just like we age, our skin will too. Here are some of the best beauty tips from mothers.

Ageing is inevitable. We’ll all wrinkle and sag one day, and although looking forever young is impossible, slowing down the effects of the ageing process isn’t. It is well-known that prevention is key if you want to age well, and it is best to start young. But where do we begin? So many fad trends online tell us what’s good and what’s not. One day this product is excellent; the next, people cancel it. With that, we’ve asked six mothers for their beauty secrets for looking forever young, because mothers always know best

Sunscreen

We’ve all heard about how important sunscreen is, as it’s one of the essential anti-ageing tips. Whether you’re staying indoors or heading outside, applying sunscreen every day is vital. “You’re exposed to UV radiation all year around. Not protecting your skin can cause sun damage, skin cancer, premature ageing, and more. It’s also great to reapply it throughout the day. Also, pat, never rub. This is for even coverage.”

Investing in premium skincare

Although there may be a debate that having good skin doesn’t mean using expensive products, this mum said investing in a high-quality cream does help. “I’ve been using La Prairie since 1995. Their rejuvenation and eye creams are my best secrets for youthful skin.” Despite this cream costing over $1,000, one can see the appeal of using premium brands. More than just a product; it’s an experience. As low-cost skin goods can feel tacky or sticky, higher-quality ones can induce a more elegant feel. Plus, brands like La Prairie have been researching extensively for years to ensure their products’ effectiveness and safety—no wonder they’re known for being a pioneer in anti-ageing skincare.

Coffee scrubs

For those who make coffee at home and don’t know what to do with the leftover grounds, this mother has a helpful tip. “I love coffee, but I always thought, what a waste to put the grounds in the bin. So I did some research. I found that coffee is excellent for your skin, especially for cellulite. I do a scrub twice a week where I get my leftover coffee grounds and mix it with freshly squeezed lemon, honey, and coconut oil. Don’t use this mix in the sun, though, because lemon can give you dark spots.”

Using a retinol lotion

If you use TikTok, you’ve probably heard about the retinol craze these past few years. However, this mother has been using it for over ten years and swears by it. Retinol is a fat-soluble vitamin in the vitamin A family. It stimulates collagen, increases skin cell production, and aids in unclogging pores. “Retinol is my holy grail. Putting a bit under my eyes, cheek, forehead, neck, and chest has helped me with my fine lines and wrinkles. Years ago, when I first started retinol, my skin was purging, but that’s normal when using new ingredients. Do some research before or talk to a dermatologist if you’re interested. Everyone’s skin is different.”

Cutting back from alcohol

It is a no-brainer that alcohol affects our gut; even our fifth mum has something to say. “I used to drink wine almost daily, especially in my 20s. When I was drinking often, my skin was dull and dehydrated. My gut was terrible too. Now, I barely drink, and my complexion is so much better. I feel I’ve aged backwards. I also changed my diet. It’s all about what you put in your body.”

It’s all about the mindset

“If you think you’re old, you’ll act old. It will be manifested. But, if you persevere and keep going, your body and mind will keep you going. I’m 72 years old, and I believe that my mentality keeps me young. I went on a trip with my family, and although I could be in a wheelchair, I decided to walk. Age is just a state of mind to me. For example, the more I walk and use my muscles, the longer I have to not depend on a wheelchair. Also, start stressing less, that gives you wrinkles. ”

Apple cider vinegar to reduce blemishes and scarring

The star of Jungkook’s skincare routine is apple cider vinegar. In an earlier interview with Super Junior’s Kiss the Radio (via Sportskeeda), the singer mentioned that he uses the product owing to its ability to clear scars. “You dissolve it in water and wash your face with that twice a week,” he stated.

Apple cider vinegar is a common ingredient in DIY face washes, acne-spot cleansers or toners. Also known as acetic acid, the product’s antimicrobial properties help tackle infections faster and soothe irritation caused by pesky pimples. Since direct usage of vinegar can damage the skin barrier, it’s advisable to dilute it in water and then apply it to your face.

How can you inculcate apple cider vinegar in your skincare routine?

As per Healthline, apple cider vinegar can be used as a face wash, a toner as well as a spot treatment. Here’s how to go about it:

  • Face wash: It’s pertinent to wash or cleanse your face to rid it of excess oil, debris and dirt. To make an apple cider vinegar face wash, you should mix about one-fourth cup of warm water with one tablespoon of apple cider vinegar. Use it gently on your face.
  • Toner: Apple cider vinegar can also work as a toner to tighten and cleanse your skin while minimising the appearance of large pores. Take vinegar and purified water in a 1:2 ratio and apply it on your skin with a cotton pad after facewash. You can also spray it evenly on your face. Note that this mixture can be further diluted based on your skin sensitivity.
  • Spot treatment: The quickest way to get rid of blemishes, spot treatment involves targeting specific areas on your face to address skin concerns. Thanks to its antibacterial properties, apple cider vinegar can be applied to the blemish using a cotton ball or pad.

Apart from getting rid of acne, apple cider vinegar also helps to maintain skin’s elasticity and slow down the ageing process. Lastly, it acts as a mild exfoliator for sensitive skin to remove dead cells.

Toner and face cream to hydrate the skin

In an interview with Allure, Jungkook stated that he uses a “toner and cream for night and morning routine.” While he didn’t mention the exact products, there are plenty of options in the market for every skin type.

Toners are ideally used after cleansing and before moisturisation. Facial toners offer a boost of hydration and brighten the skin’s tone by pulling out makeup residue, dead skin cells and grime. By clearing your skin of all dirt, toners make the absorption of other skincare products easy.

On the other hand, face creams or moisturisers keep dryness at bay, leaving the skin plump and firm which further helps in the prevention of fine lines and wrinkles. Hydration is also beneficial for preventing acne because when your skin is properly hydrated, it doesn’t produce excess oil which leads to breakouts.

We can’t stress the importance of using a moisturizer with sunscreen, be it during colder months or indoors. All BTS members including Jungkook are known to lather sunscreen, which is the most important skincare tool to prevent sunburn, premature ageing and skin cancer. So, if you’ve got to use SPF every day, why not opt for a two-in-one moisturiser?

Kombucha to balance the skin’s microbiome

The buzzy ingredient making all the noise in the world of skincare these days is Kombucha. The fermented, sweetened black tea drink has organic acids and natural probiotics which strengthen the skin barrier and hydrate it. During a live session, Jungkook revealed that he drinks two sachets of kombucha a day.

Packed with antioxidants, kombucha works wonders in busting those fine lines and wrinkles. Its probiotic properties also make it perfect to treat conditions like eczema, acne and even rosacea. Be ready to bid adieu to those painful-to-touch zits with this ingredient. Kombucha is used in a variety of skincare products including acne-friendly cleansers, refreshing mists and facial treatment essences. You can grab your pick based on your skin’s needs.

We cannot wait to try these Jungkook-recommended skincare hacks. What about you?

Jimin’s skincare secrets that will keep your face glowing https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/beauty-grooming/skin/bts-jimin-skincare-routine/ Sun, 04 Jun 2023 02:00:41 +0000 https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/?p=1877846 jimin skincare

From religiously following healthy lifestyle habits like staying hydrated to adhering to a basic CTM procedure, here’s a closer look at Jimin’s skincare routine.

The K-beauty craze is here to stay, thanks to our favourite South Korean idols who’ve popularised it with their glass-like, porcelain skin. K-pop supergroup BTS is often envied for their gorgeous skin, despite being embroiled in hectic schedules and travelling around the clock. Of all the BTS members, Jimin surely grabs everyone’s attention with his radiating skin, making us all curious about his skincare holy grails.

Let’s dig into Jimin’s easy-to-adopt skincare routine that’ll keep your skin looking fresh throughout the day. Read on!

Jimin swears by these skincare rituals to achieve that glass-like skin

1. Cleansing to remove excess dirt and oil

A post shared by JIMIN (@j.m)

The countless stage performances and tours, long flights, shoots and more can end up irritating the skin, robbing it of its natural sheen. Jimin starts his skincare routine with a cleanser. The skincare staple removes excess oil, dirt and makeup from the surface of the skin.

Removing the skin’s dead cells with a cleanser can keep acne, blackheads, and other blemishes at bay. Many facial cleansers also tighten and firm the skin, which blurs fine lines/wrinkles and gives you a youthful glow.

As per Kpop Starz, the BTS member entrusts the Bioré Rose Quartz Charcoal Daily Purifying Cleanser for keeping clogged pores away. Charcoal is known for its ability to trap impurities, cleaning the face 2x better than normal cleansers. The oil-free product works best for combination to oily skin types.

2. Toner to nourish the skin

Toning should always follow cleansing to rehydrate the skin and shrink the appearance of pores. Skin toners remove the minutest traces of dirt stuck on your pores after cleansing, improving your skin’s texture and delaying ageing.

According to Kpop Starz, Jimin swears by the Bioderma Sensibio H20 Micellar Water for a second round of cleansing. Well-known makeup artists and celebrities recommend this best-selling toner because it preserves the skin’s natural balance.

Apart from toner, Jimin uses one of the widely loved skincare staples in South Korea, The Sk-II Facial Treatment Essence. Suitable for all skin types, this formula visibly softens the texture and blurs the appearance of dark spots and fine lines. It further evens out the skin’s tone and enhances radiance. The Sk-II treatment works wonders for people suffering from dull and uneven textured skin, clogged pores, and dark patches. However, you’ll have to splurge heartily to get hold of this product!

3. Face serum to lock the skin’s moisture

Serums act as lubricators, deeply nourishing the skin by penetrating deep into it and remedying the issues right at the source. In addition, the beauty staple contains powerful hydrating elements like hyaluronic acid, which quickly locks the moisture in the skin, giving it a smooth and supple touch.

If you’re having trouble getting rid of blemishes, red spots or pigmentation, a face serum with skin-lightening ingredients like vitamins and plant concentrates is your saving grace. A serum also prevents breakouts, shrinks pores, reverses skin’s ageing with ingredients like vitamin C and retinol, and soothes sensitive skin.

Jimin was seen using the L’Occitane Immortelle Overnight Reset Oil-in-Serum during BTS’ Bon Voyage Season 4. The regenerative serum helps replenish dull skin. In addition, its overnight application ‘activates the skin’s stress-recovery process’, giving you a soothing and glowing face in the morning.

4. Moisturiser to seal the goodness of all other skincare products

A post shared by JIMIN (@j.m)

You have better skin when it is moisturised! Whether it’s stark cold or scorching hot, every season robs your skin of moisture, so including a good moisturiser in your skincare regime is essential. It’s important to choose a moisturiser based on your skin type. While water-based products work best for people with oily skin, cream-based moisturisers are for those with an oily skin type.

BTS’ Jimin always has a moisturiser to his rescue – particularly the VT Cosmetics CICA Cream. The cream has a lightweight gel-like texture and offers maximum hydration with zero dryness. In addition, it further solidifies the skin’s barrier to fight external irritants. What’s great is that this product suits all skin types — combination, dry and normal.

5. Sunscreen to protect the skin’s health and appearance

Who doesn’t love a good ol’ sunscreen to protect the skin from the striking UV rays of the sun? All BTS members, including Jimin, have been seen reapplying sunscreen in many of their vlogs. Sunscreen is undoubtedly the most crucial step in any skincare routine, whether you’re indoors or outdoors. It’s the most essential skincare holy grail to maintain long-term skin health. From reducing the risk of skin cancer and preventing premature ageing and tanning to lowering blotchiness on the face, the benefits of sunscreen are endless.

As per Kpop Starz, Jimin uses the VT Cosmetics CICA Essence Sunscreen, a vital sun essence which isn’t sticky and doesn’t even leave any white cast. The waterproof formula boasts SPF50 + PA ++++ protection. It also dries clear and doesn’t leave a greasy texture.

6. Pimple patch to swiftly remedy breakouts

Pimple patches are basically old-school wound dressing, helping in minimizing the visibility of pimples and accelerating the healing process. The hydrocolloid in the patch absorbs the inflammatory fluid, fastening the disappearance of pimples.

Jimin has been seen endorsing VT Cosmetics CICA Spot Patch for his breakout woes. After cleansing your face, apply the patch on your pimple and keep it overnight. You can also apply it on the affected area in the morning before makeup.

We hope Jimin-recommended skincare staples give you that effortless glow!

Bangkok knows peace as Le Labo opens its flagship store in Siam Paragon https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/beauty-grooming/skin/le-labo-opens-flagship-store-in-siam-paragon/ Wed, 24 May 2023 12:00:57 +0000 https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/?p=1876543 le labo siam paragon

No need to ask your friends to bring you some while they’re abroad anymore, because Le Labo has set up its first flagship store in Bangkok.

Born in New York City, Le Labo is French for “the lab.” The reason for the name is that it is the company’s intention to bring the perfume-making process that normally happens backstage into the limelight for the public to see—a fragrance lab built into each location.

Le Labo perfumes are referred to as craft perfumes, which is fitting because they utilise professional craftsmen in the process of creating each perfume, hand-blending each scent for you to see. This is also what you’ll experience as you step into their first ever flagship store in Thailand, located in 1F, Fashion Gallery Zone, Siam Paragon.

For the first time ever, we Bangkokians can finally immerse ourselves into their collections of fine fragrances, guided by one of their experts that can help you choose your next companion. Each perfume is named after its base ingredient, and our favourites include the “Fleur D’ Oranger 27,” an orange blossom punch with floral and lemony notes, “Jasmin 17,” a scent of old-world floral signature meets a distinctive harmony of vanilla and sandalwood, and, of course, the “Patchouli 24,” a smoky, leathery creation with a contrasting touch of vanilla.

Apart from its signature perfumes, you can find plenty of other creations that utlilise their crafted scents, including candles for your home, shampoos, conditioners, body lotion, and even a full-on grooming set for men. It’s truly a one-stop shop for when you want to face the day looking good and smelling gorgeous.

The benefits of turmeric for your skin: Acne, dark circles, and wrinkles https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/beauty-grooming/skin/benefits-turmeric-for-skin-acne-dark-circles-wrinkles/ Thu, 23 Mar 2023 04:37:45 +0000 https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/?p=1869782 turmeric skin benefits

What is the role of turmeric in the beauty industry? What are the benefits of turmeric for your skin?

Native to Southeast Asia, turmeric has been the subject of numerous scientific studies that have focused on exploring its nutritional and medical benefits. But what about its role in the beauty industry? This spice, known to be an excellent natural hair dye, could be beneficial not only in the fight against acne, but also in reducing wrinkles and dark circles, not to mention banishing dull complexions.

The benefits of turmeric for your skin

Well-known in many traditional medicines, including Ayurveda, turmeric is beginning to make its way into the cosmetics industry. The ingredient is now used in creams, masks, cleansers and hair care products, for example, and is making its way into DIY beauty recipes in the form of a hydrosol, powder, colorant or essential oil. This means that as many people as possible can benefit from its many virtues for the skin and hair without having to resort to products with lengthy ingredient lists. So why exactly is turmeric is becoming such a must-have spice in the beauty department?

Battling blemishes

If you’re a fan of wellness drinks, turmeric probably holds no secrets for you. This superfood is packed with anti-inflammatory and antibacterial actives that contribute to its fame. But that’s not all. It could also be beneficial for tackling acne and blemishes of all kinds. This is due to its anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and healing properties, as well as its purifying action, which helps fight against the bacteria that cause blemishes. Turmeric may even be a perfect partner to help reduce scars and stretch marks.

Supple skin and a radiant glow

Curcumin, the main pigment in turmeric, is rich in anti-inflammatory properties, but that’s not all. It is an ingredient packed with antioxidants that helps fight against external aggression and signs of ageing. It is even capable of blocking the action of elastase, an enzyme responsible for the appearance of wrinkles and sagging skin. By improving the elasticity of the skin, turmeric also helps to reduce dark circles, while its bright colour gives it a radiance boost for an immediate healthy glow.

Plus, turmeric is an excellent hair colorant that has the added bonus of soothing the scalp. But American researchers have recently gone one step further by investigating the potential of curcumin as a natural sunscreen. This research is still in its early stages, but it could one day allow this spice to be used to protect us from ultraviolet rays. Turmeric is clearly a go-to ingredient for the beauty sector that still has plenty of surprises in store.

BLACKPINK Jisoo’s skincare routine for her radiant skin https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/entertainment/celebrities/blackpink-jisoo-skincare-routine-to-get-radiant-looking-skin/ Thu, 09 Mar 2023 04:22:15 +0000 https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/?p=1867649

Are you wondering what is on BLACKPINK Jisoo’s list of non-negotiable skincare tips? Keep reading to know her secrets.

While all BLACKPINK members possess great skin, Jisoo has grabbed maximum headlines for her natural beauty. Despite her taxing schedule, Jisoo never fails to prioritise her skincare routine. The artist has been generous enough to spill details about her skincare and the holy-grail products she uses to achieve that glass-like finish. From hydration, moisturisation to masking, her simple yet effective routine reaps remarkable results.

BLACKPINK members’ doll-like skin and youthful charm have been praised worldwide, piquing everyone’s curiosity about their skincare essentials. From YSL and Dior to MAC, the K-pop stars represent some of the best beauty brands in the world, making their products sell like hotcakes.

[Hero and featured Image credit: sooyaaa__/Instagram]

Jisoo’s skincare ritual: How the BLACKPINK star maintains glass-like skin

The Snowdrop hitmaker spilt details about her skincare rituals and go-to beauty products in an appearance on the show Get It Beauty in 2022. Time to take notes, people!

Jisoo relies on moisturisers to achieve that glow-from-within look

Jisoo revealed she has a dry skin type, making hydration the key element in her skincare routine. A layer of moisturiser not only prevents dryness but also slows the ageing process and soothes sensitive skin.

Moisturising should be followed right after cleansing, both during the day and night. Applying the product right after showering also helps lock the moisture better.

BLACKPINK’s Jisoo is fond of using sheet masks

Another skincare essential for boosting hydration is a sheet mask. The K-pop idol applies a sheet mask twice a day and this sometomes goes up to three times depending on the need. Jisoo remarked that she uses the same mask throughout the day to “preserve the essence”.

Sheet masks are a quick fix to get an instant glow on the go. They remove excess oils from the skin and reduce the appearance of pores.

The Pink Venom crooner uses pore-control masks to calm her skin. For the unversed, a pore-minimising mask deep cleanses the skin and frees it of any dirt that can lead to breakouts. As a result, the skin looks supple and younger with fewer visible pores.

Clay masks work best when it comes to minimising pores as they dry out the sebum underneath the pores. Some of the best clay masks include Cetaphil Pro DermaControl Purifying Clay Mask, OLEHENRIKSEN Cold Plunge Pore Mask and Tatcha the Clarifying Clay Mask.

The BLACKPINK member loves anti-ageing products

As the name suggests, anti-ageing products help retain the skin’s firmness, reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, boost radiance and thereby increase self-confidence. Jisoo uses J.ONE Jelly Pack, the Hada Labo Arbutin Whitening Lotion as well as The Avene Gentle Toning Lotion to protect and soften her skin.

According to Mayo Clinic, some of the common ingredients in anti-wrinkle creams are retinoids, vitamin C, hydroxy acids, peptides and niacinamide, each of which has proven to improve the appearance of the skin.

Lip scrub and hand cream are Jisoo’s holy grail products

The star uses lip scrubs and lip balms to keep the lips supple and protect them from harmful UV rays. Jisoo uses the classic Vaseline Repairing Jelly to keep chapped lips at bay. As for lip scrub, she reportedly uses the Lush Bubblegum Lip Scrub, which has a sweet, candy-like flavour that’s delightful to apply. Lip balms help brighten the lips by hiding the dull and dark spots, while also creating the perfect canvas for lipstick to glide on.

Similarly, hand creams boost the moisture level of the skin and help prevent premature ageing. Using hand creams is crucial considering the skin on top of our hands dries faster because it has lesser sebaceous glands. Jisoo uses the Pivoine Flora Hand Cream from L’Occitane for soft and supple hands.

One of the most highly anticipated live performances of every year is the Super Bowl Halftime Show, and this 2023, Rihanna appeared in red looking as glamorous as always. The secret behind her game day performance? Definitely her makeup and skincare from Fenty Beauty and Fenty Skin respectively.

The Super Bowl LVII Halftime Show took place on the night of February 12, 2023, where the superstar opened the show high up on a floating platform. Throughout her setlist of 12 iconic songs, Rihanna owned the stage by going solo without any guest appearances – except for her baby bump. That being said, we spotted several glam and glow close-up looks. Here’s where to show Rihanna’s Super Bowl makeup and skincare in Bangkok.

[Featured Image Credit: Fenty Beauty]

Fenty Beauty Global Makeup Artist, Priscilla Ono was the one taking care of the star’s total stage look, which starts from essential skin prep steps. Both the skin and lips deserve a gentle exfoliation and thorough moisturising, for which Ono picks Fenty Skin Pre-Show Glow Instant Retexturizing 10% AHA Treatment and Fenty Beauty Pro Kiss’r Lip-Loving Scrubstick. Afterwards, the Fenty Skin Hydra Vizor Invisible Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Sunscreen is great for prepping the complexion for full-on makeup.

“That red stage called for the ultimate Rihanna red lip,” says Ono. Hence comes the newest Fenty Icon Velvet Liquid Lipstick in ‘The MVP,’ your new favourite red lipstick with a smooth finish. The Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’R Soft Matte Longwear Foundation is the obvious and perfect choice here, for its long-wear and pigmented quality helps the diva to shine confidently on the stage. When used with Fenty Beauty Invisimatte Instant Setting + Blotting Powder, Rihanna’s total look on the Super Bowl stage looks flawless yet effortless.

BLACKPINK’s Jennie skincare routine for glass-like skin https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/beauty-grooming/skin/blackpink-jennie-skincare-routine-glass-skin/ Thu, 02 Feb 2023 17:01:19 +0000 https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/?p=1863785

Want to get glass skin like BLACKPINK’s Jennie? Here’s her skincare routine.

Are you wondering how your favourite K-pop idols look magnificent at all times, even without makeup? Despite their hectic schedules packed with album releases, concerts and whatnot, these stars squeeze in time for pampering themselves. This includes religiously following a skincare regime because beautiful skin requires commitment, not a miracle.

Members of the K-pop group BLACKPINK are admired (at times envied too) for their glass-like, luminous skin even on regular days. While most of us get drained consulting the best dermatologists and curating skincare kits, these icons look like modern-day Aphrodite and with such nonchalance.

One idol whose youthful charm amazes us all is BLACKPINK’s Jennie. The artist is acing the skincare game and how! Thankfully, Jennie has been generous enough to share her beauty tips/secrets on social media and interviews, and we can’t wait to try them. So, keep reading to know all about BLACKPINK Jennie’s skincare routine, which is relatively easy to implement daily.

BLACKPINK’s Jennie follows this easy and effective skincare routine

Double-cleansing for the win

Double cleansing means swabbing your face twice, first with an oil-based cleanser and rounding it up with a water-based counterpart. On the Korean show Get it Beauty, Jennie shared that double cleansing is a part of her skincare regime, ensuring no makeup goop left before heading to bed.

Jennie relies on facemasks for that unparalleled radiance

The BLACKPINK member once spoke about her heavy reliance on facemasks, using two facial packs a day to get improved results. However, she has reduced her usage of masks over time and switched to bettering her diet instead. Like Jennie, her fellow member Jisoo also practices masking.

Exfoliates skin with bath salts

Jennie’s self-care rituals go beyond her face and the idol is equally inclined towards body care. The idol uses bath salts to exfoliate her skin, following it up with a moisturizer to keep the smoothness intact.

Jennie focuses on diet more than beauty products

While taking care of your skin on the surface level is essential, you can’t achieve a natural glow without sorting your diet. What goes inside your body ultimately reflects on your face, isn’t it? Jennie follows a healthy diet, starting off her day with a detox juice and chicken feet collagen soup.

Like other BLACKPINK members, Jennie doesn’t shy away from eating food without worrying much about weight. However, she tries to eliminate salty food to prevent bloating, opting for fresh and green juices instead. Her Instagram is proof!

Keeps skincare woes at bay by gymming

Working out not only helps achieve a well-toned body but improves blood flow and boosts overall mood, which ultimately reflects on your skin. Jennie treats fans with her flying yoga and Pilates sessions on Instagram, motivating all BLINKS to get their bodies moving.

The improved blood circulation helps in achieving clearer/ toxin-free skin. Working out also reduces cortisol which can further lessen stress-related breakouts.

Apart from creating a storm in the pop music space, the K-pop girl group BLACKPINK has topped the beauty charts too! Their glass-like, porcelain skin is every skincare aficionado’s dream, right? No wonder the divas are blessed with good genes, but let’s not undermine the power of a good skincare routine. BLACKPINK’s Lisa ranks as one of Asia’s most beautiful women, and we couldn’t agree more.

Lisa religiously follows a skincare routine and her holy grail products create a flawless base for makeup. The K-pop idol sticks to the ‘less is more’ mantra, flaunting her natural skin devoid of piles of makeup. Wondering how to achieve that everlasting glow like Lisa? Lisa posted a photo on Instagram, revealing her nearly $1500 skincare routine. Check out what goes down to get luminous skin like hers.

Deep dive into BLACKPINK Lisa’s skincare routine

Cleansing the face is a must

While this is common knowledge, most of us forget to take off our makeup properly and follow it up with a facewash. For BLACKPINK’S Lisa, cleansing her face of any chemicals is pertinent when it comes to skincare, no matter how fatigued she is. Follow Lisa’s footsteps and invest in a good cleansing kit for better results.

Hydration is key

Because of her dry skin type, Lisa’s skincare comprises heavy hydration. She decks up her face with moisturiser, follows it up with a gentle massage, and lets it sit for the night for better results. Lisa once gave a sneak peek into her trusted products, which included Tata Harper’s Resurfacing Serum working wonders on uneven and dull skin. If you too are trying to deal with dry skin, you might want to add this product to your cart.

Eye Cream to get rid of puffiness and dark circles

Also found in Lisa’s skincare kit is an eye cream which contains replenishing and hydrating ingredients to keep sensitive undereye skin healthy. The singer uses Omorovicza Reviving Eye Cream, a lightweight, soothing formula that retails for $149.

Skin-enriching renewal oil

Another way to boost hydration is by using renewal oils. They not only help in giving a butter-like smooth finish to the skin but also increase its firmness. So, if you’re looking to hide those wrinkles and fine lines, add a renewal oil to your cart. If you’re wondering what Lisa uses, it’s the LA MER Renewal Oil (also hailed as liquid gold). It costs $270 for a 30ml bottle.

Liquid lift serums for elevated appearance

Another glimpse into Lisa’s skincare essentials takes us to liquid lift serums. As the name suggests. the product helps lift the skin when used regularly over a long period of time. The appearance of fine lines reduces with the use of this serum.

For our star Lisa, the La Prairie Skin Caviar Liquid Lift Serum works the best. It’s one of the most expensive products in Lisa’s collection, costing a whopping $ 750 for 50ml.

Why you need to start adding caffeine and coffee grounds to your beauty routine https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/beauty-grooming/skin/adding-coffee-to-your-beauty-routine/ Sat, 01 Oct 2022 12:00:19 +0000 https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/?p=1848627 coffee beauty routine coffee grounds face scrub

If you were looking for yet another reason to love coffee, it’s time to add caffeine and coffee grounds to your beauty routine.

There’s more to coffee than its reputation as a pick-me-up drink. As well as having health benefits, it also happens to be a major beauty ally for skin and hair. It is even a must-have in the fight against cellulite, skin ageing, dead skin and dull hair. Ahead of International Coffee Day, October 1, let’s take a look at some of the benefits and virtues of this natural and effective ingredient, which won’t break the bank.

It’s time to add caffeine and coffee grounds to your beauty routine

Have you ever considered using coffee as part of your beauty routine? It seems that many people have, judging from the numerous recipes for homemade cosmetics featuring the ingredient that can be found on social networks, notably TikTok. And it’s not really a surprise because coffee — whether as an active ingredient (caffeine) or in its different textures (coffee grounds or powder) — has countless virtues for skin and hair. Here’s a look at some of these benefits, which could convince you to concoct your own treatments, or embrace some of the numerous cosmetics products based on this precious ingredient.

Caffeine, an active ingredient

It’s not uncommon to find cosmetics formulated with caffeine, an active ingredient known for its slimming and firming benefits. Generally, it is found in creams, gels, and other beauty products designed to help lose a few centimeters on the hips, thighs, or buttocks, as well as in anti-cellulite products or formulations designed to help users improve tone or firmness.

But caffeine is also present in certain facial care products, again with the aim of fighting skin slackening, but also — and above all — to improve the appearance of the eye contour area and reduce puffiness and dark circles (it can be even more effective if the product has spent some time in the refrigerator). Creams, gels, masks, cleansers: caffeine is nowadays found in products at all price points in the beauty aisles of department stores and specialised stores.

Powder or grounds

With the advent of DIY beauty, coffee now shows up in many homemade recipes in the form of powder or grounds. Rich in caffeine, these formulations can offer the advantages mentioned above, but they can also be powerful antioxidants, promising to fight against certain effects seen on mature skins, and more generally against skin ageing.

In addition to these inherent virtues, coffee grounds, thanks to their specific texture, also make for a great exfoliant for sloughing off dead cells. Simply mix it with other ingredients to get started: egg white for a mask, or vegetable oil and honey for a face and body scrub, for example. You can even use it on its own to exfoliate the scalp and hair to make it shinier.

Over on TikTok, known for being the go-to social network for DIY beauty recipes, there’s also a multitude of recipes for masks and scrubs made from soluble coffee or coffee beans. Recipes that users seem to have not only tested, but also approved.

All about Le Domaine, Brad Pitt’s debut skincare line https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/beauty-grooming/skin/le-domaine-brad-pitt-debut-skincare-line/ Fri, 23 Sep 2022 13:00:21 +0000 https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/?p=1847754

Brad Pitt has released his maiden skincare line named Le Domaine.

The actor — who has rubbished rumours of his retirement — has been extremely busy as of late. Just last month, he was working the press circuit for Bullet Train, followed by a quick stopover in Italy to attend the premiere of Blonde (on which he is a producer) at the Venice Film Festival. Weeks later, he was in Tampere, Finland to unveil original sculptures at his first-ever public art show. On September 21, the indefatigable multi-hyphenate announced the debut of Le Domaine.

The genderless skincare line is developed in partnership with the Perrin family, the vintners behind Pitt’s Miraval wine. It contains two patented ingredients: GSM10, which is derived from Grenache seeds, Syrah seeds and grape skins from the Perrins’ vineyards and is packed with anti-oxidants; and ProGR3, obtained from plant extracts, vine sarments, camomile and green tea, and boasts anti-ageing properties.

(All images: Le Domaine Skincare)

According to its makers, Le Domaine products are vegan and do not contain parabens, silicones, micro plastics, mineral and synthetic oils, animal or animal-origin ingredients, or sulfates. There is a sustainable focus too — most of its items come in refillable packaging of recyclable glass bottles and jars, and are capped with lids of oak wood upcycled from wine barrels.

There are currently three products available: The Serum (a facial serum promising hydrating and anti-ageing benefits), The Cream (a daily moisturiser) and The Cleansing Emulsion (a foaming facial cleanser), all presented in a chic white and orange box. Refills for The Serum and The Cream are also available. A fourth product, The Fluid Cream, will be offered from January 2023.

“The goal is to imitate the organic cycles of nature, its primeval beauty. There is no waste in nature. Anything left over or discarded becomes food for something else. This exemplary circular system is the inspiration for Le Domaine,” said Pitt.

The solutions to these problems are, inevitably, quite complicated. But in this day and age, skincare concerns – and their solutions – have also taken center stage. It’s also not just about fixing our skin problems anymore, and has become so much more than that. What ingredients are in the products? How natural, sustainable, and eco-conscious are they? How transparent is the brand? Is the brand cruelty free?

Maintaining healthy skin is hard, and choosing the right products for your skin – the ones that can withstand the test of weather and time, could be even harder.

Among the wealth of progressive skincare brands out there, there’s a new kid in town that we think you should definitely know about – JUX, a conscious skincare brand that promotes gender-inclusivity and firmly believes in “non-conforming beauty.”

Short for juxtaposed, which means placing two opposing concepts side by side to create a contrasting but unexpected effect, local Thai brand JUX. harnesses the power of nature with science to create the ultimate “hybrid” ingredient that are able to transform stressful skin into healthy skin – against all odds and extremes.

Why? Because as much as nature may seem worlds apart from science, one element cannot exist without the other.

Survival of the fittest

JUX.’s products are inspired by, and derived from life in the extremes, places where only a few life grows – from the driest deserts, deepest oceans, to the glaciers and so forth. We’re talking about extremophytes, or plants and microbes found to have unique molecular structures and molecules that are able to adapt and thrive against the harsh environmental landscapes that they live in.

“Our ingredients may come from nature, but they cannot exist without science,” JUX. positions themselves. Within the DNA of these extremophytes lie the regenerative properties that are not only highly compatible with our skin, but are also able to provide our skin with newfound abilities to regenerate themselves and adapt to today’s ever-changing environments, especially in moments when they cannot produce these properties on their own.

Clean is more

By eliminating over 2,000 toxic ingredients found in the plants, and through years of extensive research and experiments (yes, this is where the science comes into the picture), JUX’s products are born out of meticulously curated, and uniquely engineered formulas that are safe, effective, and indulging for the skin.

JUX. is free of the following chemicals: paraben, SLS, SLES, phthalate, drying alcohols, methylisothiazolinone, styrene, silicones, synthetic colourants, BHT, hydroquinone, insoluble micro-plastic beads, animal oil, and more. They also place great importance on balancing pH levels in their products, as to avoid extreme conditions on the skin.

Not only that, the brand is also vegan-friendly, cruelty free, and sources their bio-based ingredients globally from local communities worldwide. Their packages are recyclable as well.

All of the efforts above echo JUX.’s firm stance on their conscious, progressive, and thoughtful mission to create meaningful products that last and have an impact on the world. Why? Because quality and consumption are more than what meets the eyes, which has led to their brand ethos: #cleanismore.

With that being said, here are some of their hottest debuts that you should definitely check out.

Inspired by the desert and concept of “we’re all made of stardust,” this 2-in-1 versatile serum acts both as a hyper-pigmentation corrector and shimmer. The serum, in all its liquid gold, mirage-like glory, contains 14 vitamins, including 24k gold and 4 multivitamins (niacinamide, peptide, mineral complex, and ceramide complex), flowers, and plants powers – just to name a few – to create an evened-out complexion that is as hydrating as it is glowing.

Suitable for all skin types and able to be used for the face and body, you’ll surely “shine like a star.”

The ingredients also include 5 types of plant-based ceramides to keep the skin’s barriers firm and hydrated, bakuchiol (plant-based retinol alternative) to keep the skin youthful and glowing, and vegan squalene (olive oil), an anti-oxidant to help lock in moisture and acne-prone skin, just to name a few.

Red lips never go out of style, and soft has never looked so bold. MAC’s infamous moisturising matte lipstick, the Powder Kiss line, now has an older sister – the Powder Kiss Velvet Blur Slim Stick, and she’s bolder, more powerfully pigmented, and juicier than ever. To add, she also comes with an all new, slim stick design.

We know what you’re wondering, how can such a bold colour look soft, and how can a matte lipstick be moisturising at the same time? Well, this special, modern formula comes with a new technology, where they developed a “smart trio” of moisture-encapsulated powders able to wrap pigments in a hydrating veil, ultra-refined pigments for that superior colour adhesion, and a smoothing elastomer gel that provides easy glide and all-day comfort.

In short, this 12-hour full coverage stick is ultra-weightless and works with just a single, velvety soft swipe. It’s veiled, yet vivid, and has all the silky, sensual, and softness that the Powder Kiss line is renowned for. This time, it’s also topped with an even more creamy, cushiony feel that leaves your lips punchier, purer, and plusher with a soft-matte finish, complete with an alluring, indulgent red colour. What’s even better is that the more you apply, the softer, smoother, and suppler your lips – non-bleeding, feathering, creasing, flaking, or fading with this one, we promise.

The new Velvet Blur Slim Stick is here to make your presence known, your confidence shine, and your look complete. Whether on the red carpet or a casual day out, the powerful pigment is sure to make you go big, no matter the occasion.

Moisturisers vs face oils: Which one should you go for? https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/beauty-grooming/skin/moisturisers-vs-face-oils-what-does-your-skin-really-need/ Tue, 20 Sep 2022 06:54:32 +0000 https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/?p=1848471

More and more consumers are steadily warming up to the idea of serums, boosters, and homemade peels – today,  e-commerce sites and beauty aisles are loaded with them. And now face oil is another beauty product that’s ready to take over shelves. A face oil isn’t just a thick liquid serum in a bottle – it’s a key hydrator that nourishes deeply. Preferred as a night treatment , it takes hours to sink in. So why should one choose it over the trusty moisturiser? We spoke with Mumbai-based dermatologist Dr Malavika Kohli about the key difference between the two hydrators and how can you pick the right one for your skin. The battle is here: moisturizers or oils?

What is the key difference between a moisturiser and a face oil?

A moisturiser is a skincare product that improves overall hydration – it can enhance the water content of the skin and prevent water loss. Oils, on the other hand, are a type of moisturiser. They are thicker and more viscous, and not suitable for all skin types. Traditional moisturisers exist in the form of creams, lotions, gels, and emulsions, but oils are exclusive.

Can all skin types use moisturisers and face oils?

“Moisturisers can be designed to suit different skin types and their customised needs—all skin types can find their perfect moisturiser.” A popular options is Clinique iD service that allows you to choose your cartridge of ingredients depending on your skin type. The best way to select a product is to get a patch test on a small area behind the ear. People with acne-prone, sensitive skin, enlarged pores or oily skin should avoid oils.

What characteristics of moisturisers and face oils can help us pick one?

”Moisturisers are handier and weather-friendly. Face oils can clog the pores and increase UV absorption when applied without sunscreen. Scented oils fused with essential oils can cause skin irritation and reactions,” says Dr Kohli. Before trying a new product, keep these things in mind – the drier your skin, the thicker your moisturiser, gels and emulsions work well for combination skin type and face oils suit extremely dry skin types. Acne-prone and super sensitive skin types can try a pure, cold-pressed rosehip oil. Don’t forget to patch test it first.

Soho House launches Soho Skin, its very own skincare line https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/beauty-grooming/soho-skin-soho-house-skincare-line/ Mon, 19 Sep 2022 15:00:00 +0000 https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/?p=1844963

Soho House, the global club for creatives is now taking on the beauty industry with its own skincare line: Soho Skin.

In case you haven’t heard — and you probably haven’t, because it hasn’t even been announced to members yet — the global hospitality brand and private members’ club is branching out into the beauty space. Yup, that’s right, Soho House is releasing its own skincare line. And it’s named Soho Skin, naturally.

First, like Aesop, Le Labo and our all other favourite genderless scent creators, Soho Skin’s collection caters to all sexes — so inclusive! Next, it was developed not only by professionals, but also Soho House members themselves. The community was asked about their skincare goals and what they felt was missing in the current beauty market. All this makes me feel like Soho House is really onto something with its new venture.

Ten hyper-functional products, designed to be used both at home or during your travels, come with the debut of Soho Skin. They include a cream cleanser, an eye cream, a face cream, a shaving gel, an exfoliant treatment and a brightening renewal serum.

The complete Soho Skin collection is now available in all Soho House bedrooms and online via the brand’s website.

Why is Crème de la Mer the world’s holy grail moisturiser? https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/beauty-grooming/skin/why-is-creme-de-la-mer-expensive/ Thu, 15 Sep 2022 07:00:50 +0000 https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/?p=1848468

It’s not everyday you see someone using a Crème de la Mer moisturiser. The highly coveted moisturiser is not only pricey but insanely difficult to understand, a mystery of sorts only because it comes with unique ingredients and an origin story that’s interesting. Yet, it’s a legend in the skincare category, the holy grail when it comes to moisturisers. While the stories it comes with throw some light on its humble beginnings, it’s the price tag that catches our attention. At $90 for a mere 14 grams of product, it goes all the way up to $2400 for its Moisturizing Crème de la Mer Cream. What makes the moisturiser worth the moolah? We take a look.

Why is Creme de la Mer so expensive? Find out

Creme De La Mer

Creme De La Mer was first created when a German rocket scientist named Max Huber invented it to heal his burns – a lab experiment gone wrong. His innovation worked and the cream he created became his solace – it healed his wounds and made his skin smooth and soft. Though, we’ll admit that these stories are seen by a larger audience as mythical and the origins of Dr.Huber are still shrouded in mystery with a number of conspiracy theories to boot. Nevertheless, the cream gave him relief and he found his solution from the sea – that started his research and soon, with 12 years of experiments under his belt, the iconic Crème de la Mer came into existence.

Bought over by Estée Lauder who owns the brand now, the cream itself is applauded for it’s unique ingredient – the highly potent, nutrient-rich Miracle Broth. It’s not only the star ingredient but is also the single one that’s featured across the label’s offerings. What’s the meaning of Crème de la Mer? Simple, it’s the cream from the sea and that’s how it all began.

Creme De La Mer

The reason this cream is sought after is primarily it’s ingredients from the sea that go through a fermentation process. There’s sea kelp and a host of other pure ingredients that go into Miracle Broth and this cell-renewing elixir makes the skin radiant and clear while providing exceptional self-regenerating powers. Another reason the cream is expensive is how sustainably it’s created. The base at Vancouver Island actually hand-harvests the kelp and what’s even more interesting and exclusive? Every time the Miracle Broth is created, it is infused with drops from the batch that came before it – that’s the link that keeps the chain of radiance going – almost like yoghurt. There’s something old used to create a brand new cream and that’s how the cream becomes iconic. We even know the lab technicians also play music to the broth – a  tape of carefully selected sounds to activate it. Now, that’s something.

The miracle broth is the unique feature here and is at the heart of the cream – a blend of sea kelp, calcium, magnesium, potassium, lecithin, iron, Vitamins, C, E and B12 alongside result-oriented citrus, eucalyptus, wheat germ, alfalfa and sunflower oils that undergo biofermentation. The fermentation process too takes around 3 to 4 months and also actively uses light and sound energy to enhance the activity of the pure ingredients. This resulting broth as they call it helps with dryness, adds hydration and moisture to the skin while keeping it healthy and soft. At the same time, lines and wrinkles are taken care of too.

The cream is the fountain of youth? Yes sir. But what really makes it popular and undeniably iconic is it’s consistency and stability, two skills that bring results to the table. Plus, the fact that it contains anti-irritant properties and in a way, stimulates electricity in the skin cells that helps produce proteins like collagen and elastin that help keep skin younger and healthier. Good enough to pay more than good money for it.

The best home remedies to fight acne, from apple cider vinegar to tea https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/beauty-grooming/skin/home-remedies-for-acne-natural/ Thu, 15 Sep 2022 03:30:18 +0000 https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/?p=1844382

Acne outbreaks are common everywhere in the world and there’s probably nobody out there who doesn’t wish to get rid of them once and for all. Fortunately enough, there are countless of solutions exist to deal with pimples, blackheads and oily skin, which affect both teenagers and adults. Here are some of the best natural and home remedies to combat acne.

There are tons of cosmetics on the market that promise to tackle acne — with varying degrees of success — but long ingredient lists are now proving a turn-off to some consumers in search of natural solutions. The good news is that there’s no shortage of natural options, as simple, age-old remedies have recently become very popular, especially on social networks. Accessible and inexpensive ingredients, such as tea or apple cider vinegar, can help you get rid of mild acne. For more serious or persistent cases, it’s obviously preferable to seek the advice of a health professional.

Acne treatment: Best home remedies

Tea to help reduce sebum secretion

You only have to visit the cosmetics aisle to see just how many green tea-based anti-acne products are out there. And that’s no coincidence. White tea, and especially green tea, are both natural solutions for people who are prone to acne, thanks to their astringent properties. Their main asset is reducing the secretion of sebum, which, in excess, is precisely one of the causes of acne. In the form of an oil, mask, cream or serum, green tea can be one of the allies of problem skin and help in acne treatment. Note that it should not be confused with tea tree oil, which, incidentally, dries up acne spots and blemishes.

Apple cider vinegar to fight blackheads

Vinegar can be used to get rid of the blackheads that plague the lives of the young and the not so young! Rich in nutrients, organic acids and mineral salts, apple cider vinegar is a powerful antibacterial agent that cleanses the skin thoroughly and removes pollution and other impurities that build up throughout the day. Even better, this wonder product helps reduce the appearance of enlarged pores and get rid of blackheads. Plus, it’s a natural remedy that’s within everyone’s reach since it’s cheap to buy.

Sweat can be an unexpected ally

We do everything to avoid it, in winter as in summer, with products like deodorant and talcum powder. However, perspiration is not all bad. On the contrary, it can be useful in getting rid of impurities, pimples and blackheads, as long as you don’t sweat too much and don’t let it fester. Sweating is a natural process that results in the evaporation of sweat through the pores of the skin, ridding it of sebum and impurities at the same time. Moreover, sweat contains an antimicrobial peptide that naturally protects the skin from acne-causing agents. Anyone for a quick gym session?

Kate Moss, Kim Kardashian, and the rise of holistic celebrity skincare lines https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/beauty-grooming/skin/kate-moss-kim-kardashian-holistic-celebrity-skincare-lines/ Fri, 02 Sep 2022 04:00:51 +0000 https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/?p=1843117 holistic skincare celebrity

Kate Moss launched Cosmoss earlier this month, following a host of other celebrities who too have started holistic celebrity skincare lines. Here’s a closer look at this movement.

Rihanna, Kylie Jenner, Selena Gomez, Lady Gaga, and Millie Bobby Brown are among the many celebrities who have launched their own makeup lines in recent years. A lucrative market but one that could be overshadowed by a more authentic concept — holistic beauty, between skin care and well-being.

British model Kate Moss recently made a much noticed entry into the world of skincare with her brand “Cosmoss by Kate Moss,” and a short video revealing her in a lake or a pond without any artifice, in fact without any clothing. While that was enough to get people talking, what is particularly interesting about the launch aren’t the sensual shots that can be seen on the new cosmetics line’s dedicated Instagram account but its concept: a brand combining “beauty & wellness.” No mascara, no foundation, no lipstick, but rather skincare products, oils and even drinks such as special tea blends, all designed as components of rituals to elevate body and mind. The concept of holistic beauty in all its splendour.

Holistic skincare as a new approach to beauty

Holistic beauty in and of itself is not a new concept; Susanne Kaufmann, founder of the cosmetics brand of the same name, launched her approach to this idea nearly two decades ago. But it has made a comeback with the Covid-19 pandemic, as makeup sales collapsed with lockdowns, and the public turned to more natural and authentic products, ingredients, and lifestyle practices. Gone were the days of contouring, layering, and piling on cosmetics and makeup, replaced by a new approach to beauty based on caring for body and mind.

These days it’s all about approaching beauty in its entirety, under the spectrum of food, fitness, well-being, sleep, and of course cosmetics. All this with the help of natural ingredients, if possible, as well as science and new technologies. The objective is no longer to treat or cover, but to prevent, by strengthening the skin’s natural powers. LED light, percussion therapy, prebiotics, facial gymnastics and other types of facial massage are all techniques and ingredients that are very popular today for reinventing our beauty routines.

holistic skincare celebrity

A new bonanza for celebrities

Despite makeup sales bouncing back in the course of 2021, celebrities seem to have noticed the tide turning. Some have enriched their beauty brand with skincare products based on the holistic approach, while others have launched completely new projects. Millie Bobby Brown is among the first to have tried to mine this niche with Florence by Mills, combining clean, vegan, and animal cruelty-free makeup and skincare, with the objective of “defining beauty on our own terms. no rules. no struggle toward perfection. no boring beauty standards. just us, playing with how we want to look, feel, and live.” A first step towards an aspect of holistic beauty, but without a primordial aspect: well-being.

Since then, other celebrities have followed suit, further developing the concept: Hailey Bieber with Rhode Skin, which “is dedicated to making products based in science and great formulation”; Kim Kardashian with SKKN By Kim, which is “at the intersection of elevated simplicity and innovative science” via “clean ingredients and technical formulas.” The whole thing is based on ethics and sustainability, two key words that can be found here and there in most of these cosmetic lines. Other common points: a limited choice — with a focus on essentials — and a beauty routine that emphasises time with long-lasting results. Whether fastidiously elaborated and explained or not, the concept of holistic beauty is indeed at the centre of these new brands’ communication strategy.

Creams, tea and CBD

It’s the same thing with JLo Beauty, the brand by Jennifer Lopez, and even more so with The Outset, the label developed by Scarlett Johansson. But with Cosmoss, Kate Moss seems to want to go even further. According to the Daily Mail, it is her own beauty routine, based on health and well-being that the iconic model is preparing to offer up with this brand that launches September 1. The British newspaper specifies that there will be tea to rid the body of its toxins, creams, a ‘sacred’ mist and an oil with CBD. “Each product has been meticulously crafted with wellbeing in mind; each ritual opens a door to balance, restoration, and love,” reads the brand’s Instagram account.

Popular with the public, this holistic approach seems to have won over the hearts of stars, who have understood the value of investing in this new kind of beauty routine. It is now up to us consumers to sort out what is real and what is not, and to find the products that are truly designed according to this global concept of beauty.

If there’s one thing the beauty industry can’t get enough of, it’s Korean skincare, especially staples like Korean sunscreen and Korean moisturisers. With hundreds of options available, we’ve created a list of the top K-Beauty moisturisers that you’ll want to apply twice (or more) every day.

Best K-Beauty moisturizers to invest in right now

A gentle reminder: Everyone, including those with oily skin, should use a moisturiser (oil does not equal hydration). The beauty of Korean skincare is that serums, cleansers, and moisturisers are packed with ingredients, which are naturally moisturising, plumping, and skin barrier-repairing.

If your T-zone is frequently oily, use water-based gels or creams, while drier skin will benefit from any of the nourishing and vitamin-packed creams popular in Korean skincare. Here are our top picks!

Guide on choosing the best moisturizer for every skin type.

Belif has heard too many cries of exhaustion from people with oily skin who have been using a plethora of greasy moisturisers for too long. The Aqua Bomb is a cult favourite for a reason; it’s a water-based moisturiser with a cooling effect and a lightweight texture that sinks into the skin instantly.

THB 1150

Everything we love about the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask is now available in the form of a gel moisturiser that you can slather all over your face. The product melts into your skin like water, yet with all of the rejuvenating effects of an overnight mask.

Price:
THB 1062

The not-so-secret ingredient is Centella Asiatica extract, which soothes skin and helps in the repair of newly picked or popped pimples. It may also be used as an all-over sleep mask when your acne needs some extra TLC.

Price:
THB 690

Boasting a special bouncy soufflé texture that comforts like a cream with the lightness of a gel, Glow Recipe’s Banana Soufflé Moisture Cream is uniquely formulated with banana, a rich source of magnesium, potassium, cica and turmeric. It aims to hydrate, soothe, and rescue skin from everyday stress, redness, sensitivity or excessive dryness. Plus, the formula is silicone-free, dye-free, and synthetic fragrance-free! Want a pro tip? Stick Banana Soufflé in the fridge for 10 minutes before applying for a cooling sensation that helps reduce inflammation.

THB 1645

Green tea has several health benefits, so it’s no surprise that it’s a key element in Korean skincare. The Jeju green tea extract heals any dryness while retaining its vital nutrients.

The Moistfull Collagen Cream is a great fragrance-free moisturiser with a gel-like texture that works well for dry to combination skin. It has a high concentration of collagen combined with vitamin E to help keep your skin moisturised all day. Because the cream absorbs fast into the skin and does not leave your face greasy, you only need a pinch-sized quantity.

THB 820

We’re certain that this mask contains tiny estheticians that do thousands of small facials on your pores overnight. This is an overnight product that, true to its name, is a fantastic blanket for dry skin on chilly winter nights.

This oil-free moisturising lotion is suitable for all skin types, although it is especially beneficial for acne-prone or dry skin. Birch sap is amazing for calming irritated or exfoliated skin, instantly moisturising and cooling any discomfort. Your skin will always be smooth and nourished.

Price:
THB 704

This oil-free moisturiser helps to minimise the appearance of dark spots, hyperpigmentation, and acne scars. The gel consistency is popular with oily and acne-prone skin, but it’s also moisturising enough to soothe eczema, rosacea, and extreme dryness. Natural ingredients such as ginger, vitamin C, aloe water, and turmeric help brighten skin and even texture, proving that clean beauty is the best beauty.

11 best Korean sheet masks for that flawless, glass-like skin https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/beauty-grooming/skin/korean-sheet-masks-for-a-healthy-and-pampered-skin/ Fri, 26 Aug 2022 07:00:28 +0000 https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/?p=1842353

When watching K-dramas or coming across any South Korean-related entertainment shows or celebrities, we often might wonder: reveal those skincare secrets, please!

Call it a wave that has taken beauty aficionados by storm or a trend that everybody wants to be a part of; Korean skincare is the cynosure of the beauty world currently, especially its sheet masks.

While everything Korean — TV shows, movies, fashion and music — has taken over their counterparts all over the world, their idea of beauty and skincare has the most monumental effect.

From popular products to makeup tips and tricks, people are really embracing Korean beauty in their lives. Being your harbingers of all things trending, we’ve scouted some of the best Korean facial sheet masks to try, especially if you’re always on the go and making time for regular salon visits is a monumental task for you.

How to choose a Korean sheet mask according to your skin type

Korean sheet masks are designed with various ingredients to help manage different skin concerns. Crafted with distinct materials and formulations comprising soothing and hydrating components, each sheet mask has a benefit of its own. Which is why for the best results, you should pick a sheet mask with ingredients that cater to your skin’s needs. For instance, a hydrating and moisturising mask is an apt pick for people with dry and irritated skin. Look for sheet masks infused with ingredients like hyaluronic acid, aloe vera, cucumber, shea butter and oatmeal.

Formulated with tea tree, charcoal, green tea, and turmeric, these sheet masks are for oily or acne-prone skin. To get brighter and glowing skin, make sure your sheet masks have constituents like vitamin C, potato, ginseng, rice, lemon or milk. Similarly, revitalising and anti-ageing ingredients would include pomegranate, collagen, hyaluronic acid, and blueberry.

What are the benefits of using Korean sheet masks?

Using Korean sheet masks is one of the easiest and quickest ways to reap most of the benefits of Korean skincare. According to a study, “Sheet mask prevents quick evaporation of water phase and extends the time frame the ingredients require to penetrate deep into the skin.” Hence, their nourishing and soothing properties give you a brighter and plumper looking skin in a few minutes.

So, if you’ve been meaning to dabble in K-beauty, here are some of the best you must try for a healthy, glowing, and pampered skin.

Best Korean sheet masks to try for healthy, pampered skin

Perfect for when you don’t have time for those long beauty sessions, this Korean facial sheet mask can be your go-to product. The moisturising cream-based sheet mask leaves your skin feeling hydrated and refreshed within a few minutes, thanks to its potent blend of Jeju green complex (green tea, tangerine, cactus, camellia leaves & orchid) and rice, leaving the skin flawless.

Simply unfold the mask and place it on your face after cleansing and toning it. Remove the mask after 10-20 minutes and gently massage the leftover serum on your skin for complete absorption.

Formulated to provide nourishment and hydration to your skin while keeping it feeling refreshed, these masks are a must in everybody’s skincare arsenal, and come in a plethora of variants depending on your skin type and concern. If acne-prone skin is your biggest concern, the Tea Tree option has tea tree extract that refreshingly soothes the skin and helps control oil and sebum production.

An effective solution to dull and dry skin, this is one of the best Korean face masks that ensure skin hydration and moisture retention. With aloe vera leaf extract and Aquaxyl – which strengthens the skin’s barrier – as its key ingredients, this product promises healthier-looking skin.

Don’t have time for a long skincare routine because of your busy schedule? Get your hands on this Korean mask by The Face Shop. Rich in lemon extracts, this mask brightens dull and weary skin by penetrating deep into the skin’s layers, leaving you with a healthier glow and plumper skin.

An appropriate product for a combination skin type, this Korean face mask is formulated with a dermatologically-tested formula that helps in keeping your skin healthy and refreshed. Within, an infusion of tea tree oil, chamomile and centella provides relief to sensitive and irritated skin. The fine cellulose mask also moisturises the skin and leaves a soothing effect while managing enlarged pores that produce excess sebum.

Catering to different skin concerns, the Egg Cream Face Masks come in different variants— hydration, deep moisture, firming, and pore tightening. Each type of these sheet masks are enriched with egg along with other ingredients that are beneficial for your skin. They leave your skin feeling refreshed and hydrated within just 10-20 minutes.

Designed to leave a calming effect on your skin by reducing irritation and cleaning pores, this Korean sheet mask would be a great pick for people with sensitive skin. The infusion of cooling compounds, like erythritol, lowers the skin’s temperature and diminishes irritation. Meanwhile, the bamboo charcoal sheet purifies the pores and rids the skin of impurities.

One of the most popular Korean beauty masks, a set of Tony Moly masks, is a must-have in your bathroom vanity. It contains seven sheet masks that are formulated with many ingredients, targeting various skin concerns, from hydrating and enlivening dull and tired skin to achieving radiant and plumper skin, this pack has got a mask for each of your skin’s needs.

New Beauty Buys: What to put on your face (and body) this August https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/beauty-grooming/makeup/new-beauty-buys-what-to-put-on-your-face-this-august/ Wed, 10 Aug 2022 04:00:22 +0000 https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/?p=1840788

Whether it’s a new beauty balm, blemish fix, or botox: welcome to your local guide to what to put on your face in Bangkok.

Each month, we’ll be presenting you with a series of beauty products we’re very excited about, be it a newly-launched lipstick or a tried-and-tested sheet mask.

Summer is now over, and August is now upon us. For those who are from or familiar with Thailand, you’ll know that August is a particularly special month for the most important woman in our lives – our mothers.

Yes, Thai Mother’s Day lands every year on August 12, but it’s a whole celebration for the entire month, filled with mother-themed content, events, deals, and items to purchase. We’ve already got some ideas on where you should take your mothers out for dining, staycations, a trip, or where to buy her beautiful garlands. But hey, beauty never fades – so don’t leave makeup and grooming out of the picture!

With that being said, here’s an August-filled, curated list of the makeup, skincare, and beauty items you should not miss out on, especially when gifting your mum.

New beauty buys this August

“Of all the anti-ageing products available on the market, sunscreen is the single most important one,” says Ava Matthews, Ultra Violette’s co-founder.

And we couldn’t agree more. Also, what’s a better way to further usher in this movement and keep your (or your mum’s) skin protected, youthful, and healthy other than purchasing the latest, hottest sunscreen brand in town – Ultra Violette? Out of all the new additions this cult-favourite Australian sunscreen brand has brought in, we’re going to go with the “most popular girl at UV High” – the UV Queen Screen Luminising Sun Serum SPF 50+.

The serum and sunscreen (yes, it serves as both sunscreen and skincare) comes in a lightweight, shimmery, serum-like formula that seamlessly absorbs into the skin, giving it a dewy finish. It’s the perfect base for your makeup, giving your face an ultimate, radiant glow without all that white, sunscreen pile on your face. The Queen Screen protects and hydrates, is perfect for both normal to dry skin types, and contains vitamin C and dragosine plus, which shields the skin against infrared, visible, and blue light. Suffice to say, your mum will definitely thank you for this ultimate, anti-ageing, skin-protecting serum.

9 best under-eye masks for dark circles and all your undereye woes https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/beauty-grooming/skin/best-under-eye-masks-dark-circles/ Mon, 25 Jul 2022 07:30:00 +0000 https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/?p=1839329

The eyes may be the window to the soul, but your under-eyes tell a whole different story.

Dehydration, late nights, or too much sleep? Yep, your under-eyes will tell them all.

For many, the quickest solution is to slap on some concealer and pray for the best, but there’s only so much makeup can hide. The fragile skin surrounding the eye area gives pretty much everything away, and for this a little help in the form of under-eye masks is always useful, regardless of what your concerns are.

These convenient, easy-to-apply under-eye masks are a joy for tired, stressed out eyes, and can do more than eye creams in a shorter span of time, with ingredients that are specially formulated to brighten, firm, and hydrate all at once. Doesn’t hurt that some of these are pretty darn chic too.

From pre-date preps and hangovers to a mellow girls’ night in, here are the best under-eye masks for every concern and occasion.

Below, 9 best under-eye masks to try for brighter eyes:

As one of London’s most sought-after facialist with an A-list celebrity waiting list, Sarah Chapman knows a thing or two about reviving fatigued skin. Her uniquely shaped Tri-ocular mask doesn’t just treat the tired, crepey bits under your eyes, but also all critical areas around the entire contour with a complex of advanced actives alongside her famous stem cell technology. The all-round mask instantly depuffs and brightens dark under-eye circles, while lifting and hydrating the brow bone, eyelids and crow’s feet.

If you’re one of those who rarely make your eight-hours-a-night dreams come true, this eye mask is your cheat code to faking a good rest. With a commitment to plant-based ingredients and a passion for science, celebrity aesthetician Joanna Vargas formulated hers with powerful ingredients like Hydrolized Silk Protein for hydration, Matrixyl 3000 for a boost of collagen, and other peptides and plant extracts to plump and soothe the delicate eye area, leaving you wide-eyed and ready for the day ahead.

Price
THB 2,194.11 (approx.)

Infused with the famous Advanced Night Repair technology, these serum-soaked babies are fast absorbing and stay put on your face all night to infuse your peepers with 20 times more of the brand’s hydrating and rejuvenating formula. To maintain maximum potency and freshness, the serum is contained in a liquid chamber which can be released right before you apply the mask. Expect to wake up with your fine lines ironed out, as well as more luminous and rested eyes.

THB 1,600

This eye-care routine is a two-step situation which may be a lot to ask for some, but it’s a small price to pay for brighter eyes. Formulated with a more concentrated version of Chanel’s signature Le Lift ingredient, alongside a potent vitamin complex, this serum’s targeted formula helps reduce the look of dark circles and fine lines. Bonus points for the roll-on tube — which means you get a little massage as you apply it —and the “Chanel” branded gel patches, which seal the serum into your skin in the chicest way possible.

THB 5,650

Got a last-minute date you need to zhush up quickly for? This eye mask includes potent ingredients like rose, pomegranate seed cell culture, and yeast protein that’s high in amino acids, peptides, and proteins. A quick 15-minute session as you get dressed is all it takes to quickly hydrate, brighten, and nourish the under eye for healthier and more illuminated skin. Use before makeup so your concealer goes on super smooth.

Retinol might a powerful anti-aging compound, but it can also be irritating for some, more so under the eyes. For this, Verso has infused its famous Retinol 8 — a stabilised Vitamin A complex that’s eight times more effective but half as irritative — to its hydrogel eye mask, making it easier for those looking to minimise the signs of aging. When used weekly, the retinol complex boosts the skin’s natural production of collagen, speeding up the rejuvenation process so you’ll never end up with crepey, sagging under-eye skin.

What screams bougie louder than plastering a 24K gold leaf foil over the bottom of your eyes? Not much else, really. Long a beacon of hope for celebrities looking to get their game face on before red carpet events, aesthetician Mimi Luzon and her coveted ‘24K Pure Gold’ treatment took over the world — and Instagram — for its sheer ostentatiousness. While there’s no real benefits of putting gold on your skin (the molecules are too big to penetrate the skin’s surface), the Corrective Anti-Wrinkle Mask that you apply beneath it has peach extract, red tea and hyaluronic acid to soothe redness and restore moisture. For maximum flex, use with her new 24k Pure Gold Lip Treatment.

Like cold cucumber slices, but better. These energising and super refreshing gel patches are soaked in a nutrient-dense blend of aloe, chamomile, and allantoin to soften and soothe the delicate area, while glycerin and hydrolyzed collagen deliver a quick moisture boost to combat sunken eyes. There’s also caffeine and arnica to erase dark circles after those late nights. Because these patches are innately cooling, we recommend stashing them in the fridge to further up the chill factor before in the morning.

Besides turning everyone into anime rock stars, these shooting star-shaped eye masks are chockfull of the good stuff for your under-eyes, from wrinkle-busting retinol to a concoction of collagen, licorice root extract, and hyaluronic acid that brightens, plumps, and moisturizes. Its adorable shape isn’t just good for the ‘gram, they’re also indicators to ensure optimum application; simply ensure the star sits on top your crows feet, and its trail of light lies beneath your eyes to properly impart all its serum-y goodness.

Apple cider vinegar: The basics, the benefits, the best products to shop https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/beauty-grooming/skin/apple-cider-vinegar-basics-benefits-best-products/ Wed, 20 Jul 2022 05:08:55 +0000 https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/?p=1838809

From the basics to the benefits to the best products, here’s all you need to know about apple cider vinegar.

We hear about it all the time, but what exactly does apple cider vinegar do for our skin, hair, and scalp? According to the experts, a small amount of the ingredient might ultimately improve your beauty routine. Here’s everything you need to know about this underrated beauty elixir.

Apple cider vinegar: The basics, the benefits, the best products to shop

Although the scent isn’t pleasant, there’s a reason apple cider vinegar (ACV) is popular in the beauty industry. It’s naturally acidic, which is great for your skin, scalp, and hair. According to experts, the natural pH of our bodies’ skin is more acidic when we are healthy. When your skin is irritated, a small amount of this might be your secret weapon for calming it.

If you want a brighter complexion and a healthier scalp, the vinegar from the old saying might come in handy. That is, if it is made from apples.

The basics

Apple cider vinegar is made by crushing apples and then squeezing off the juice, according to experts. Bacteria and yeast are added to the liquid to start an alcoholic fermentation process that turns the juice’s sugars into alcohol. The alcohol is then transformed into vinegar in a second and final fermentation process.

The benefits for skin

ACV’s skin-perfecting acids are similar to a mild chemical peel that gently exfoliates the skin. Gentle is the key word here; when used properly, ACV may help slough away dead skin cells that you can’t see, brightening your complexion.

ACV’s acidic characteristics also make it ideal for acne-prone skin – it has a low pH, which experts say helps to maintain our skin’s healthy acid mantle.

A well-balanced skin tends to be more acidic, so a few strategic swipes of the stuff on specific areas can work to bring your skin back down to a healthy pH, which, according to experts, is beneficial in balancing things like oil production and calming eczema flare-ups. It’s also worth noting that, due to the fermentation, ACV is naturally antimicrobial, which adds to its power in combating acne.

The benefits for hair and scalp

You’ve probably heard it a million times: scalp is skin. As a result, ACV is equally effective in your hair-care regimen. Its exfoliating acids reduce oiliness and can help break up any debris or product residue left behind from daily activities. It helps to reduce scaly scalp since it is a mild exfoliator. According to experts, using diluted ACV to your hair might help it seem shinier by eliminating product buildup on the hair shaft.

It’s also great for dandruff. Remember those antibacterial and anti-fungal properties we mentioned earlier? They also make ACV a great natural cure for flakes, which can be aggravated by yeast (a form of fungus) on the scalp skin. Overall, it can support a healthy scalp by targeting dead skin cells that cause dandruff, minimising flakes, and allowing you to go back into your cute black tops and shirts.

There are a few more advantages that the acids in ACV can provide for your crown. It seals the hair cuticles, retains hair colour, increases shine, and reduces frizz, as well as softens and strengthens the hair shaft.

The steps of usage

The way you use ACV is determined by your overall skin or hair needs. According to experts, apple cider vinegar may be used on the skin as a cleanser, acne spot treatment, toner, and exfoliator, and on the hair as a cleansing hair rinse, shampoo, and so on, so you know there are plenty of products out there filled with it at various levels.

Experts recommend looking for acetic acid or vinegar on the ingredient list. It should be within the first five or so ingredients, and definitely not after the preservatives. If the product is labelled as fruit extract, any acetic acid is further diluted in a solvent such as glycerin or is only present in trace amounts.

How sweat can help combat acne (yes, sweat) https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/beauty-grooming/skin/how-sweat-can-combat-acne/ Sat, 16 Jul 2022 00:00:42 +0000 https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/?p=1838378 acne sweat

You may have never thought that sweat could aid your acne, but it’s time to think again.

It may not have a very glamorous image, yet sweating is said to be beneficial in fighting stress and fatigue, and in improving skin radiance while combating acne. As temperatures continue to rise across much of the globe, here’s a look at why — and how — sweating could be your best friend for flawless skin this fall.

Summer is here, bringing with it hot weather, and all manner of tricks for avoiding the pesky perspiration that sticks to our skin at work, on public transport and even more so when exercising. From thermoregulating clothing to deodorant and talcum powder, tips of all kinds encourage us to minimise this natural bodily function. And although sweating is bemoaned for many reasons, it’s not all bad — quite the opposite, in fact — since perspiration is a major ally against acne.

Why do we sweat?

When it’s not excessive or linked to an illness, perspiration is a natural phenomenon that very simply manifests as the elimination of sweat through the pores of the skin. It is even described as a “mechanism” because it allows the body to maintain a constant temperature. In other words, sweating helps to reduce body temperature by releasing heat when the body is at risk of overheating due to high outside temperatures, fever, intense physical effort or even stress. So there is nothing wrong with sweating, quite the contrary, especially if it can be beneficial to the skin.

Secreted by glands located under the skin, sweat is characterised by a layer of moisture on the surface of the skin, which can be embarrassing in everyday life. We have all — or almost all — felt that famous drop trickle down our backs during periods of high heat, and we could probably have done without it. However, contrary to popular belief, sweating does not favour the appearance of pimples and other imperfections, and it can even be helpful in getting rid of them… in certain cases.

How sweat can combat acne

As we said, perspiration is nothing more than the evacuation of sweat through the pores of the skin. As a result, it simultaneously allows the body to get rid of sebum and other impurities that accumulate in these pores. In other words — goodbye acne, pimples, blackheads and the likes that can ruin our lives. Dr. Viscusi, a dermatologist and co-founder of Dermatology & Surgery Specialists of North Atlanta (DESSNA), told Allure magazine that sweat contains antimicrobial peptides that naturally protect against acne-causing agents. All the more reason to embrace perspiration.

The only downside is that it’s best not to let sweat accumulate and dry out on the skin, which could lead to blemishes. After a sports session — or a trip to the sauna or steam room — it is recommended to wipe off the perspiration with a clean towel, cloth or handkerchief, or even to take a quick shower to reap the benefits of perspiration while minimising the drawbacks.

The best retinol products to help fight acne https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/beauty-grooming/skin/best-retinol-products-fight-acne/ Fri, 15 Jul 2022 02:00:05 +0000 https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/?p=1838118 retinol products

If you’re looking to get rid of acne, we suggest adding retinol to your skincare routine. Here’s everything you need to know and the best retinol products to shop.

Tea tree oil, salicylic acid, and benzoyl peroxide. If you’ve had acne since you were old enough to get a learner’s permit, you’d be able to name the active component in any given acne remedy in the drugstore aisle. Not to disparage your favourite spot treatment, but if they worked for everyone, we’d all have the flawless skin of our dreams. That, however, is not the case. If you’ve had acne for years and haven’t seen any change, it’s time to call in the big guns—we’re talking retinol for acne.

Retinol has several advantages; in fact, many dermatologists advise their patients that if they do nothing else, they should use retinol and sunscreen. Retinol, according to experts, reduces the function of overactive oil glands and unclogs pores. This helps to cleanse the skin, making pores look smaller, and prevents acne. Furthermore, it may increase the potency of active ingredients in other acne-fighting medications, so if used in conjunction with other cleansers, you may experience enhanced benefits.

A retinoid may help if you have moderate to severe acne that hasn’t improved with other treatments. Retinoids, when applied to the skin, can clear pores, allowing other medicated creams and gels to operate more effectively. They also help to prevent acne breakouts by keeping dead skin cells from clogging pores. They may minimise the production of acne scars by clearing acne and reducing breakouts.

How to use: Apply a pea-sized drop of retinoid cream on your skin once a day, 20 to 30 minutes after washing your face.

What else you should know: When you first start using retinoids, you may notice redness, peeling, or exacerbation of your acne. You may reduce this by using the product every other day until your body adapts, or mixing it with moisturiser.

How to pick the best retinol product for acne?

According to experts, retinol comes in a variety of strengths, the most frequent of which are 1%, 0.5%, 0.3%, and 0.25%. If your product’s label does not state the percentage of retinol, it typically implies the concentration is less than.25%, which may not provide you with the full benefits of retinol. To be effective, studies suggest that you should use at least 0.25 percent retinol or 0.025 percent tretinoin, thus experts recommend buying a product that specifies the percentage.

When selecting a retinol product, experts recommend starting with the lowest dosage and working your way up. Another thing to consider is your skin type. If you have thick or oily skin, use a higher-strength product. Start with the lower-strength option if you have thin or dry skin.

Do retinoids work for every type of acne?

Anyone who experiences breakouts is aware that there are several types of acne. The good news is that retinoids are effective on all of them. Born with oily skin, enlarged pores, and a predisposition for breakouts? Retinoids are effective. It is keratolytic, which means it dissolves dead skin layers, according to experts. By doing so, you encourage new skin layers to develop that are smoother and softer. If you have blackheads and whiteheads, retinoids will burst out the keratin that is obstructing your pores. In the case of inflammatory red bumps and pustules, retinol exfoliates the dead skin, making it easier for other acne topicals to penetrate your skin.

Side effects of using retinol

Start slowly, whether you’re using a retinoid or a retinol. Experts recommend starting with every three nights and gradually increasing to nightly use. It is typical for your skin to experience flaking or dryness when adapting to it. Buffering, or layering a retinol product between two layers of moisturiser, can also help to reduce retinol burn. Experts believe that four to six weeks of consistent, nightly usage will provide results.

You may also have more breakouts if you begin using retinoids. Maintain your calm and stick with it. Experts say, it’s common to see acne worsen before it improves, since retinoids can trigger a mass ‘purge.’ As skin cell turnover accelerates, new clogs rise to the top. Unfortunately, your only option is to wait. This improves once the comedones are expelled and the retinoid has had a chance to restore skin cell turnover in the follicle.

Self-Care Sunday: how Note Panayanggool starts her day https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/beauty-grooming/wellness/self-care-sunday-note-panayanggool/ Fri, 08 Jul 2022 03:32:37 +0000 https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/?p=1836128

Our July digital cover star — queen of effortless cool, Note Panayanggool — gives us a breakdown of her daily routine.

They say if you want to change the world, start by making your bed every morning.

Maybe it’s true, maybe it isn’t. Either way, here’s what we do know — how you start your day matters. Regardless of whether it’s exercise, meditation, or just unsweetened black coffee, having some form of a daily routine can go a long way. This is where Self Care Sunday comes in — a column where we sit down with some of the city’s most influential lifestyle gurus, to talk about how they like to kick start their day.

This month, as we celebrate the launch of our July digital cover, we had a quick chat with the charismatic artist, musician, and environmental conservationist Note Panayanggool, to get the lowdown on her daily routine. From her daily meditations to her love for green tea, we run through a day with the multi-talented creative influencer.

Start your day off right

For someone who prefers to “go with the flow” than stick to a routine, Note tells us that one of the few things she’s maintained on a daily basis is her morning meditations. “I like meditating first thing when I wake up. I think that’s the best time to set your intentions for the day ahead.”

While meditation apps and guided journeys are all the rage right now, Note believes they aren’t necessary to achieve the spiritual well-being she seeks. “When I meditate, I don’t need it to last an hour or anything like that,” she explains, “If I feel at peace within the first one to two minutes, then that’s already enough for me.” To her, consistency is key. “If you’re planning to do something every day, it doesn’t have to last super long, as long as you know you can sustain it. For me, finding that feeling of lightness and feeling it continuously for a minute or two, I think that’s more than enough.”

Take the time to breathe

Instead of hurrying up and jumping straight into whatever is on the schedule, Note advises taking a moment to “breathe, and feel the good energy in your body.” When stressed, she shares that breathwork and visualisation can really help do the trick. “Picture a white healing light,” she explains, “that really helps for me, meditating and visualising, along with breathing. Long, deep inhalations and exhalations can really help get you relaxed in any situation.”

On days when she’s feeling exceptionally anxious, Note would look up Wim Hof’s breathing exercises on YouTube. “They really help ground me,” she tells us, adding jokingly that she hasn’t quite mastered the ice baths just yet. Same here, Note, we’re still working on those too.

A quick shower & red lippy are all you really need

For someone with such flawless skin, it came as a pretty big surprise to find out that Note’s morning routine — skincare and beauty-wise — is pretty much a one-step ritual.

“I’m super fast with showering, getting ready, and all that stuff,” she tells us with a laugh. “In the morning I just wash my face with water, and that’s it. My makeup routine is also really quick. Just one lipstick and I’m ready to go.”

Health is wealth (and so are rest-days)

When it comes to exercise, Note admits to having a somewhat sporadic fitness schedule, though she does try to keep it consistent and stay healthy. “The perfect routine would be exercising three days a week, but sometimes I can’t do that, so once a week is already pretty good for me during my lazy phases,” she jokes. “When I’m in a really active phase, that goes up to three to four times a week, though.”

Don’t rush the wind-down

Though she likes keeping her morning routine fuss-free, Note makes sure to set aside time to unwind before bed. “I’ve trained my body to be sleepy when I read, so I can’t fall asleep without reading anymore,” she says with a laugh.

As for skincare, Note confesses to spending more time on this than on her makeup. “I would put on three layers of cream before bed every night. Instead of focusing on how to cover my acne, or scars on my face, I prefer to focus on how to heal them.”

5 Things Note Panayanggool can’t live without https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/culture/people/note-panayanggool-5-essentials/ Fri, 08 Jul 2022 03:31:55 +0000 https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/?p=1834282

Our July cover star, the talented and charismatic Note Panayanggool, shares with us the five most important essentials she cannot live without.

When it comes to living the good life, you’ll be hard-pressed to find anyone who offers as much insight into the art, as our lifestyle gurus do. For this month’s digital cover, we sat down with Note Panayanggool, to discuss what her daily essentials are. From her journal to her reef-friendly tanning oil, here are the top five items the influential creative cannot imagine living without.

Her kindle

When she isn’t out surfing, or making music, Note spends a lot of her free time reading. “I read every day, especially before I go to bed,” she tells us. “Sometimes I can’t fall asleep if I don’t read, so it’s kind of like my nighttime routine as well. Instead of taking sleeping pills or anything that will help me when I’m really stressed, reading helps me relax and de-stress at the end of the day.” For those in search of a new read, Note recommends Tuesdays With Morrie by Mitch Albom, The Celestine Prophecy by James Redfield, and Outlaw Ocean by Ian Urbina. The musician/environmental conservationist is currently reading Breath by James Nestor.

Notep Body Oil

“I tried doing this body oil because it’s something that I really use in my life every day, ever since I started living a beach bum lifestyle. When you go to the beach a lot your skin gets really dry, and also when you go in the sun, it can make your skin really uneven. With this oil that I’ve been using, it really helps make the skin colour even and also make it glow, and moisturises it. I don’t use it only when I go to the beach but also in my daily life so when I wake up, after I shower, like all the time. It smells good too because I use lavender and citrus essential oils, and it really relaxes you when you use it and smell it.”

Known for channelling that effortless cool so many of us envy, Note shares with us her makeup secret: a red lippie. “I like using a red shade that can work as both a lipstick and a blush, and that’s my main makeup routine,” she tells us. As for brands, she’s — of course — a fan of Chanel. Classic.

Her Longines watch

An avid traveller, Note relies on her timepiece to help her keep track of her schedule. “I work a lot while travelling, so it’s useful for me to keep track of the time and make sure I’m not late for things,” she explains. As for why Longines specifically, a big draw for Note is its underwater functionality. “With Longines, their watches go really deep underwater, so I don’t have to worry about breaking my watch when I’m going on my adventures.”

Her journal

Big on mental health and spiritual well-being, Note journals regularly. “My friend recently gifted me one from a brand called Mad Happy,” she tells us. “It’s a clothing brand that really values mental health. They release their own journals that guide you to reflect on your day and what’s on your mind. There are questions and also daily check-ups on your current emotional state where you can rank how you feel spiritually, or where your emotional level currently is. It’s interesting to be able to look back and see how you were feeling on a specific day, and to write and reflect on what’s going on in your life.”

New Beauty Buys: What to put on your face (and body) this July https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/beauty-grooming/makeup/new-beauty-buys-what-to-put-on-your-face-and-body-this-july/ Thu, 07 Jul 2022 10:00:31 +0000 https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/?p=1837485

The mid-year season, or July, is now among us – which means countless sales and countless product launches. It’s definitely overwhelming and exciting at the same time. We can’t honestly have it all, so how exactly do we choose?

Well, fortunately, as we said before – beauty never goes out of style. There’s always something new, something worthy to add to our beauty regimen, no matter what season it is.

With that being said, here’s a list of the new Beauty Buys we’re most excited about this month. It’s a rather long one compared to our usual list, but hey – there’s no other time than now!

New beauty buys this July

First, can you believe Shiseido was founded way back in 1872, and is one of the oldest cosmetic companies in the world? To celebrate this momentous milestone, the Japanese cosmetic giant, of course, must go all out with its limited 150th Anniversary collection.

The anniversary collection comes with three “masterpieces” to represent the past, present, and future: the Eudermine Revitalising Essence 150th Anniversary Limited Edition, Ultimune Power Infusing Concentrate Serum 150th Anniversary Limited Edition, and the Ultimune Future Power Shot 150th Anniversary Limited Edition. For this, we’re going to have to go with what this anniversary is all about: heritage, which is reflected most in the Eudermine Revitalising Essence. With new research and reinvention, this limited anniversary essence is a high-performing revitalising lotion that allows for quick absorption to condition and smoothen skin, enhancing and sustaining its already inherent moisture. Just like the brand’s legacy of dedication, heritage, and innovation, it will leave your skin radiant and soft, just like a flower petal.

The best lipstick for us is one that makes us feel our best. Luckily, red is the colour that will never fade, will always make a statement, and, most importantly, will always make us feel that much more confident and sexy. The high-intensity and vibrant lip colour of Chanel’s Rouge Allure L’extrait will keep your lips bold and alluring all night long, and is guaranteed to pull any makeup look or outfit together.

Apply it with confidence, and define it with precision, because it took a lot of research to develop this lipstick – one that will serve as a hallmark of Chanel’s identity, and a symbol of women’s liberation that dates back to the 1920s. It is classy, bold, daring, confident, and of course, alluring.

It’s the brand’s first-ever clay mask and is guaranteed goodness by the goddess, pop icon, and newly-titled youngest American female billionaire herself – Rihanna, aka FENTY’s founder.

Just as the name suggests, the mask is detoxifying and nourishing, and will leave your skin looking and feeling soft, smooth, and as delicious-looking as the Cookies and Cream flavour. For this year’s Summer Unrated Collection, the brand is going all out with a collection that offers it all: from the Blush/Bronzer Duo, Blush Duo, Eyeshadow Palette, Orgasm Lip Mask, to the Orgasm Body Oil.

If we really had to pick one, then it would, hands-down, be the ingenuous cheek-to-cheek Blush/Bronzer Duo with the Orgasm/Laguna shades. What can we say? Opposites really do attract, and the duality these shades bring are as dynamic as they are sexy, and will for sure keep your cheeks glowing and shimmering into the day and night.

It’s still (and always will be) summer in Thailand, which means it’s always sticky, humid, and hot. This often makes it hard for us to apply any makeup on while expecting them to always stick and not melt on our faces – we’ve all been there before. This is precisely why light foundations are always the perfect base and go-to for this kind of climate, and, more importantly, we now have Dior’s Forever Foundation to the rescue.

Available in multiple shades and ideal for all skin types and tones, the latest addition to the cult-favourite Dior Forever Foundation line is here with a new formula 15 years in the making. At the heart of the reformulated version are two new patented formulas and finishes, a perfect fusion between skincare and florality. It provides UV protection, improves hydration, reduces inflammation, and overall just gives your face an instant natural glow. The foundation will leave your skin looking and feeling its best: beautiful, lightweight, well-hydrated, and healthy.

A scent doesn’t just take you to a place, but also invokes a feeling. This sublime new fragrance is both a mood and a feeling – the Musc Noir Rose type of woman is one that “lays herself bare, unveiling her true self and revealing the most personal facets of her femininity – without pretence or artifice.”

Marking a new chapter of modern femininity, the amber floral of the fragrance offers a more sensual, intimate, and delicate tone to the usual MUSC NOIR. Its top notes are derived from Italian bergamot oil, highlighted with pink peppercorn bringing a radiant and tangy citrus glow, while the base contrasts its sweet openings with oriental vanilla, leather suede accords, and the Indonesian patchouli. Sweet, understated, luminous, and disarming, the MUSC NOIR ROSE embraces the femininity that captivates because of its subtlety.

Feeling feminine and sensual with that quiet confidence

Wheat, oats, corn: How and why grains are taking over beauty https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/beauty-grooming/skin/grains-taking-over-beauty-industry/ Sun, 29 May 2022 00:00:53 +0000 https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/?p=1830560 grains beauty

Whilst grains are undeniably a healthy food, lately they’ve become a focus in the beauty industry. Here’s how and why.

Grains are a must at mealtime, and have recently become an important part of the cosmetics industry due to their numerous beneficial qualities for skin and hair. Corn, oats, sesame, barley, bran, wheat, and rye are progressively taking over our bathrooms to help us get rid of wrinkles, redness, and irritations, as well as to nurture sensitive and dehydrated skin.

The pandemic has helped boost the image of many natural ingredients in cosmetics, in order to put an end — once and for all — to the long list of incomprehensible-sounding ingredients in many products. As a result, grandma’s own recipes are now all the rage on social media, riding the wave of DIY, with an emphasis on plants, seeds, and other nectars that are accessible and safe for the skin as well as for the planet. Nettle, aloe vera, and tea are among the must-haves that have come back into fashion in recent months, as have broccoli, onions, and even mustard, which are more unusual. And if we were already betting on rice and flax as 2022 must-haves at the beginning of the year, it’s finally all the grains — or almost all of them — that are getting ready to make their entry into our bathroom.

Each type of grain has its own benefits

Although we know the health benefits of consuming grains, which are very rich in fibre and minerals, their benefits for the skin remain a mystery to many. In this respect, generalisations should be avoided because corn does not have the same properties as rice, oats or rye, thus affecting each type of skin and answering each need differently. Some of the most well-known are the moisturising and anti-aging properties of wheat; the purifying, soothing, and regenerating qualities of oats; the nourishing power of sesame; and the multiple properties of rice, which combine all these benefits.

A growing number of cosmetic brands are harnessing the power of grains, gradually integrating them into their formulas. Some have even made it their trademark. One such example is La Belle Meunière, which claims to be the first line of cosmetic products made with grains from French organic farming. From masks to scrubs, moisturisers, radiance serums and makeup remover oils, the brand offers everything you need for a complete routine, with the possibility of making some products yourself in DIY style. All guaranteed natural, vegan, made in France, and 100% transparent.

From vegetable oil to shampoo

As we have seen, it is now possible to create a complete beauty routine from grains, with a range of products from vegetable oil to shampoo, and even more specific treatments such as eye cream. Aroma-Zone, a specialist in natural ingredients, is a real gem in the area, with vegetable oils made from rice bran, oats, sesame and wheat germ. All of which meet the many needs of your skin, whether or not they are combined with other ingredients.

Other brands choose to offer cosmetics in which the powers of grains are boosted by other ingredients. This is the case of Centifolia and its Sublime Jeunesse eye cream, which combines buckwheat oil extracts and green micro-algae to reduce dark circles and puffiness while improving skin tone, and Body Nature’s Soothing Shampoo, formulated with oat milk, barley water and sage infusion to cleanse and soothe the scalp.

The same is happening with the more mainstream brands that are making grains a new must-have. At The Body Shop, you’ll find the Almond Milk with Oats Instant Soothing Mask to exfoliate the most sensitive skin, while Qiriness offers the Exfolys Rice Wrap to unclog and tighten pores. A growing number of all kinds of cosmetics that show a definite taste for the previously unsuspected powers of grains for the skin — and you may want to ask for more.

6 travel-friendly skincare tips for your next weekend trip extravaganza https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/beauty-grooming/skin/travel-friendly-skincare-tips/ Sat, 14 May 2022 00:00:53 +0000 https://www.lifestyleasia.com/bk/?p=1828579 travel-friendly skincare

Planning a weekend trip or a longer summer holiday sometime soon? Be sure to treat your skin right with these 6 travel-friendly skincare tips.

Summer is here, which means it’s time to start thinking about a proper travel skincare routine. A rapid shift in weather can be damaging to the skin, and then there’s the actual journey to consider. Below, we’ve shared some great travel-friendly skincare suggestions for keeping your skin healthy throughout.

Travelling is definitely not your skin’s best friend. Any change in your usual humidity, air quality, temperature, or sun exposure levels might cause dryness, redness, and acne. Not to mention that skin on a plane may get extremely dry and then compensate by overproducing oil, leaving your face parched while also breaking out.

Below, we’ve shared a few great travel-friendly skincare suggestions to help you support your skin throughout your travel.

6 travel-friendly skincare tips for super hydrated skin

1. Cleanse your face thoroughly

The most noticeable difference between cold and hot climates is that your skin perspires more. For those with acne-prone skin, this can be a trigger for a breakout — not the sweat itself, but the fact that it is left on the skin for an extended period of time. To eliminate perspiration, sunscreen, and pollutants from the skin, experts recommend thorough cleansing twice a day or once when travelling on a flight.

2. Pick a pH balancing toner

The pH of the skin might alter when you travel between climates, which is why experts recommend using a pH-balancing toner. The skin is acidic by nature. It often has a pH balance of five and six. When the pH of the skin rises to alkaline levels, it sets off a chain reaction that causes trans-epidermal water loss, dehydration, and, finally, inflammation. A pH balancing toner restores the skin to its ideal condition.

3. Opt for skin calming ingredients

According to experts, when we shift from hot to cold weather, our blood vessels contract to help control our body temperature. This might cause a flare-up in certain people with specific skin conditions (sensitive/reactive skin). Your calming ingredients will come in handy here. Niacinamide, in particular. As a component of the vitamin B3 molecule, niacinamide is one of the most effective anti-inflammatories in skincare, working to reduce the skin’s inflammatory response to calm and soothe skin. This would make an excellent addition to the beauty kit of frequent travellers.

4. Add in a couple of sheet masks

When travelling, the skin becomes extremely dry, losing its natural glow and radiance and seems to appear dull. Sheet masks are fantastic hydration agents. As your skin absorbs the serum present in the sheet mask, it eliminates any underlying dehydration and dryness, ensuring that your cells are well hydrated and nourished. It’s usually a good idea to keep 2-3 sheet masks on hand for a quick in-flight pampering session.

5. A great lip balm is a must

The low humidity of cabin air can be quite drying to the skin. Any flight that lasts more than four hours will be detected by your skin, especially on the lips, which are quite vulnerable. An occlusive lip balm applied regularly is a must.

6. Keep your skin hydrated

When it comes to dealing with the dryness of travel, extra hydration should be your priority. To avoid trans-epidermal water loss, apply Hyaluronic Acid Serum and seal with cream during the flight.

Another suggestion is to use face cream throughout to keep your skin feeling fresh and moisturised. Consider taking a hydrating face mist with you for a quick spritz of freshness.
